Dell promotes Latitude XT tablet by sawing another in half
These days, you better bring your A-game when promoting a product in an already (somewhat) saturated market, and Dell has certainly given it its best shot with a recent Latitude XT promo. The video showcases a gentlemen who is apparently fed up with his other tablet and the incomprehensible grief it has caused him, and rather than selling it to another poor sap and waiting it out for Dell's forthcoming alternative, he takes matters into his own hands. Needless to say, the poor machine didn't stand a chance against a mighty electrical saw, and while we highly doubt the impending Latitude tablet could either, it's a comical watch nonetheless. Check it out after the break.

too bad its a radial arm saw not a table saw...
Isn't that a M200 in the video??
I agree that is an M200. I am typing this on an M400.
What a stupid thing to do. How does his laptop (I refuse to pretend like convertible tablets are so exotic that you can't still call them "laptops") drive him up the wall? My M400 doesn't give me grief.
How is the new Dell tablet PC going to be any better?
How is a NEW Dell better than a 2- or 3-year-old Toshiba? The best laptop is the one that you OWN, because you could afford it, and you were able to purchase it. The fact that Dell's NEW product (that isn't even out yet) has better specs than an old product is not impressive at all. Dell is late and this video is ugly.
Actually it is a Portege 3500 or 3505, I'm using one to type this! :)
It is a 3500 or a 3505
Yes, but now the next question is, will it blend?
yeah but come on, the real question is WILL IT RUN DOOM?
no, the real question is, will you, for one, welcome our new tablet overlords?
NO, the real question is not "Will it play doom", but Will it blend?

Perhaps the Latitude XT is made of carbon fiber? Even though it might still succumb to the saw, perhaps it would mess up the blade.
Toshiba laptops are garbage.
I know two girls who live in the same apartment, have the same laptop, and have the same problems with their battery, ac power, screen, and keyboard.
In my job I see a lot of college students with a lot of different laptops, and Toshiba has been the brand that I have seen the most problems with.
nicer video - killing notebook with pitchforks :-D

@ Comacozi, NOTHING PLAYS DOOM!!!!
I just wish we had some specs on this Phantom XT tablet already...I just ordered an X61T and I can't imagine it could be more impressive than it...at least I'm hoping it won't be... :)
Doesn't really seem like something Dell would have funded. The commercial itself is kind of stupid IMHO.
someone obviously forgot "Dude, you're getting a dell!" :-)
Have they been taking lessons from Comcast's ad agency? You know, the commercials that explain how your phone calls will still be bummers even if you get Comcast Digital Voice?
Now lets see them do it with the battery still in there.
Could someone tell me what the ideal Tablet PC is?
I really want to get one, but there's too many out there, and they all seem the same. So could someone tell me what the best Tablet PC would have, in terms of specs and features? And which ones comes real close to being the best? Thanks.
It depends if wou want a keyboard or not. I'm using a slate Fujitsu Stylistic 5020D and love it. Motion Computing makes a very nice slate style tablet as well. The Fujitsu Lifebook 4220 is awesome too if you're looking for a convertible. Those are the only tablets I use. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for.
I like the ones offered by Motion Computing too. I don't have the money for them right now though. Last I looked the specs aren't all that great, (although I was looking mostly at the lower end models). One thing I do like about them is there are alot of different options as far as cases/field cases docking stations etc. This may or may not help in their "coolness" or not, but I believe they also use them as props in Stargate Atlantis on the SciFi Channel. As I understand it they also come with some pretty good voice recognition software, but I haven't looked at others yet, so maybe other slate tables do too.
Gateway's 295 series convertibles pack a 256 MB graphics card, plus a Wacom digitiser. It also has firewire.
I think features-wise, this is the most powerfully configurable convertible right now.
On the heavy side though, it's over 2.7 kgs. Not a real problem for me, but some may like it light.
I've been using a HP/Compaq TC1000 for more than 4 years now. NO Problems whatsoever... battery still runns for two full hours.
I guess this proves that any manufacturer can build great "flagship"-products but ultimately fails when trying to cut costs...
what a dumb thing to do ... he could have donated the laptop to a school in india, pakistan, china, or africa.
horrible.
Where are these useless souls supposed to plug it in when they get it? Bout as lame as when mom would yell at us, "There are children in India starving."
what are you talking about? many, many folks have access to electricity but not the money for computers. laptops with working batteries are even better for places with flaky power than desktops.
Lucky it wasn't a Sony...
also, there is a distinct difference between food supply, in which millions starve because food is not transported to their area, not so much because food isn't available in the world. there is a shortage of food in many localities, which drives up the price, and causes people to starve. there is more than enough food in the world, and the problem is transportation; and the cost of transportation to get enough food to these places is enormous compared to the utility you get per unit food -- starvation occurs unless you continuously transport.
with computers, it's a one-time cost. you transport a computer and a huge benefit is reaped for a long, long time. thus, computers should never go to waste.
