DeLorean being brought back to the future?
We're certainly not holding our collective breath on this one, but according to an article put out by the Los Angeles Times, the cult classic DeLorean automobile just might be resurrected. Reportedly, the DeLorean Motor Company is laying plans to bring the car back into limited production, and while it'd be easy to brush aside this whimsical scheme, 2007 certainly has been good to vintage automobiles made new. Apparently, the supply of cars suitable for rebuilding is quickly dwindling, and if everything pans out, DMC could possibly produce "20 or so cars a year." Of course, there's simply no way to tell how legitimate these expectations are, but here's to hoping for a brand new gull-winged whip in the not-too-distant future.

Yeah so maybe i'm a dork. But I think it's awesome.
JD @ Aug 1st 2007 2:02PM
Maybe it'd be awesome if it didn't have such a lethargic engine.
Scabies @ Jul 30th 2007 6:20PM
I saw something about this on TV... all of the parts still exist on shelves somewhere, and you can comission one to be built. Original DeLorean parts, but not a DMC vehicle, per se. Are we talking manufacturing new DeLoreans, or builing/rebuiling "old" (or unassembled) ones?

I think these are the people you're looking for:

Now if I could just get me a Flux Capacitor....
Wait a minute ...
If I can go forward in time I can get one there.
But I need one to go forward in time..... DAMM YOU TEMPORAL PHYSICS!!!
John @ Jul 30th 2007 6:47PM
A set of neodymium magnets run through a BlendTec Total Blender will get you started!
anonymouspimp @ Jul 30th 2007 7:47PM
Bohi... i'm pretty sure i know how this works...
Just promise yourself that when you DO get your hands on a Flux Capacitor, you will go back in time to THIS DATE and hand deliver it to yourself. Then you can time travel, yourself.
Look behind you, your future self should be there smiling with your very own Flux Capacitor. Don't forget to pick up a sports history magazine when you visit the future!
Bohi @ Jul 30th 2007 9:33PM
In all seriousness, the very idea of time travel is ludicrous......
KNOCK! KNOCK!KNOCK!

Gotta go....... anybody know a good bookie?

so cool !

Yea so I saw that thing on tv too. Ireland had all the molds used to build the body panels destroyed along with the plans. I don't think they are brand new, maybe used or oem spare parts.

The current people who own the name Delorean Motor Car were ruminating on bringing out kit cars, not full production. That's cuz full production cars have all kinds of legal requirements that kit cars don't have.

It's one billion watts. Use the metric system.

I can't believe you didn't mention a flux capacitor anywhere in this post. For shame.

Hmm... I half-expected cocaine jokes per the DeLorean drug scandal. Ah well, I guess my problem is that I'm too darned old.

I'm 21 and I even know about John DeLorean. I refer you to the joke below.

You know what's sad,.. some kids these days don't even know what a Flux Capacitor is.
I weep for our future.

I drive my DeLorean everyday to work and such. I think this is nice to see more DeLoreans on the road so people don't stare at me while I'm at a red light. :D

I wonder if the people building them will prefer their candy to be of the nose variety.

I saw the Back to the Future DeLorean on the freeway once.
Even though it hit 88 miles per hour, it didn't go back in time. Must have been something wrong with the flux capacitor. We saw this on I-95 in North Carolina. The car had vanity plates "XLR8288"

The DeLorean Motor Company has everything needed to build the car from scratch.
It would be correct though that to build entirely new ones without using salvage or ragged out car VIN's would be a great challenge.
When they run out of original stainless body panels they have all the original engineering drawings and a company picked out to make those. They also have the vacuum mold for the body tub. They only thing they don't have are a supply of frames but do have a company that are making them out of stainless steel as opposed to regular steel and then powder coated. The stainless design is much superior since flexing of the frame has been causing the powder coating to flake off.
I own two of them and have toured the Humble, TX location and was really impressed with the stock of parts they have.

MeMine @ Jul 31st 2007 4:49PM
The car is made with a fiberglass underbody, with a dairy grade stainless steel skin overlaid on the fiberglass underbody. No need to purchase ordinary sheet metal.

i WANT one of those! I loved those cars since I first saw the BttF movies! Hell, I checked out one of them when me and my bro found it one in the parkin lot at our local mall XD
I really want one x.x
