Engadget's Holiday Gift Guide: for daughter

$0 - $100

Most accessories under $40, available everywhere.
Barbie Girls MP3 player with Barbie Girls MMO - Yeah, we know it's Barbie, but we've seen worse MP3 players for $60, plus it comes with access to the Barbie Girls MMO, where she can either participate in moderated online activities or unlock other social features by syncing her device with friends' computers. Make sure she (and her parents -- which may include you) are into Barbie first, though -- that's a line you probably don't want to cross.

Vivid Imagination's Sakura - If you're trying to get your daughter prepped for a career in robotics, why not start by showing her just how enjoyable they can be? Vivid's Imagination's Sakura skates around on command, gives your lil' lady the skinny on how to primp for the evening (blah), and even comes bundled with a solar powered flashing keychain. Ok, it's all kinds of lame, but at least they're making robots for little girls -- it's a start, right?

It comes in blue, red, pink, silver and black -- pick the one she's most into and you're golden. Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1000 - Capturing the wonder years yourself is priceless, but we'll warn you that capturing the wrong moments in HD can most definitely be disastrous. Regardless of whether the HD1000 is used for good or evil, this pint-sized HD camcorder can fit in a purse for easy access, and with the native MPEG-4 format it records in she can share clips with her friends without taking a Final Cut class.

Sony 32-inch Bravia S3000 - Is your daughter the type that can't get enough pink? Yeah, we know how it goes, first there was the pink RAZR, and now every gadget she gets... Luckily she's not the only one and Sony has a Bravia line-up with eight different colors, including you-know-what. And hell, even if she doesn't go with pink it's not like Bravias are HDTVs to snub your nose at.
$849 - Buy from B&H

ESPN Air Hockey Table with MP3 Dock - Care to give your daughter a taste of how you grew up? Ok, we know this might be a gift-for-her-for-you, but maybe you two are the type to bond by cuing up some classic rock with the built-in MP3 dock and show her what "twitch" meant before videogames. Don't let the ESPN keep 'em out, air hockey is fun for the whole fam -- even if it's just the spectacle you'll make of yourself flailing about.

Did we miss something good? Let us know in comments what that she really wants, maybe we'll find some place to work it in.

Finally!!! a new guide!!! Whats taken you so long?
Chill, it's only been four days since our last!
Ryan Block replied to my comment!!! w00tness!!!!
I was also saying that in happiness. I wasn't mad or anything.
same here when Ryan replyed to me for the Him gift guide
Don't you guys mean Christmas Gift Guide?
Nope. Theres other religions, bud.
i didn't know other religions celebrated Christmas...
the muslims have eid coming around christmas, so this could also be for it
In all seriousness, let's not forget that Chanukkah, Kwanzaa, Three Kings Day, St. Lucia Day, Ramadan all fall around this time of year. Despite what Bill O'Reilly says, Christians aren't the only ones who buy gadgets.
Yeah, they do -- Hanukkah started on Tuesday.
If you guys aren't going to call it a Christmas gift guide, can you at least get most of it out before Hanukah starts next time?
whatever...I celebrate Christmas, so for me I tell people Merry Christmas. It's my way of saying that I hope you have a good day or month (except it's seasonal). If you're Jewish and celebrate Hannukah, than by all means feel free to say Happy Hannukah! It's not a personal offense, it's just stating what you believe in and wishing someone well. Happy Holidays is generic and impersonal, IMO.
Political correctness is for the lawyers and politicians.
well im atheist, i still celebrate the exchanging of gifts from one another out of love (easier said as christmas). the actual holiday is irrelevant to anything mentioned in the bible or jesus, apart from his birthday being the same day as christmas. there is nothing religious about the event itself.
Uh, no, the bluetooth headset. My sister took one look at mine and has never stopped making fun of me for it yet.
Give it more time to get more popular.
hmmm.. That's true but i doubt one-eared bluetooth headsets' popularity will rise.
I would recommend the stereo bluetooth headsets instead (the A2DP ones) not just "for daughter" but for anyone with a half-decent (or better) MP3 playing phone. They look more "normal" and don't scream "Look at me! Thanks to my bluetooth headset on only one ear, I can have a seemingly important business conversation and pretend I'm listening to you at the same time!"
"Not only does she get a Mac that just works, but everyone will know how much her father loves her when they see the diamond studded Apple logo."
more like "everyone will know how much your father is worth and then proceed to kidnap you."
u beat me to it
Regarding the Toshiba 40-inch, surely the 1000+ means the extra peripherals (DVD/HD players, game consoles, HD tv channel subscription) you'll need to spring for fear she will ask what the heck she's supposed to do with a giant tv without anything to hook into it, calling you a cheapskate in the process.
Regarding the LED dress, do you really want to give your daughter something that encourages people to stare at her? I know they would be nerds, but still..
Hey - if I spend 16 G's on a dress, people damn well better look at it!
As long as no one plugs anything...
Im really surprised I dont see a ipod touch on here. Almost all of the young girls I know are like all trying really hard to get that for chrismas or the iphone.
Then again you may not have it on here because of a flood of "omg ur trying to get ppl to buy apple" but yea, I have noticed a TON of girls wanting to get the ipod touch or iphone really bad
I am like trying to get one too!
more along the lines of my 4G just bricked on me after putting out a good 3-4 years of daily wear and tear and i need a new iPod...
4G... Ahh... The ideal iPod
I actually have that Casio camera...don't be put off by the fact it's a Casio.
It's an awesome little camera that takes decent quality pictures, and is super easy to take with you anywhere you travel.
My only warning is-- don't use the lousy software that comes with it! Picasa is much easier to use, and free from our beloved Google.
*holds up evangelist picket sign*
EEE P-C!
EEE P-C!
Does Engadget have something against the eep? I've not seen it recommended on any gadget guides, but most dads of teenage daughters at my work have taken one look at mine and said, "my daughter would love that, thanks - you've just sorted out what she's getting for christmas!"
And having said that, most PEOPLE I've shown it to have loved it. It's the perfect solution to a particular niche.
Just sayin, is all... ;-)
did you read the his guide yet? ;)
Ooops! I take it all back! Funny, I don't remember seeing it when I first perused the For Him guide.
But the way I see it, the eep should be on EVERY guide, it's that good. not that I'm evangelising or anything...
But the eeeeeeeeeee isn't available in pink until January. I suppose it depends on the holiday in question, but that's too late for Christmas, anyway. And you probably don't want to get her a white one, when other colors she'd like better (I know, not all girls are that big into pink, but probably like one of the pastels better than white) will be out in a month. Better to give her a BT USB dongle and a soldering iron for Christmas.
When she asks what they're for, tell her "Wait and see." And order a pastel eeeepc, next-day shipping, as soon as it's available.
Lol, the Swarovski Dress is gonna make her more stupid. Swarovski Crystals have ALL been recalled due to too much lead. LMAO.
...you guys should consider hiring female writers.
the sidekick lx actually has a wqvga display. the slide's display is the one that's standard qvga.
"A little birdie told us that ladies tend to spend more time in the bathroom than guys. We're still fact-checking that bit"
Always nice to see humor
Also I am surprised not to see any of those Hello Kitty gadgets
The Holiday list are always interesting, anymore planned for this year?
very best guide
