CeBIT never fails to produce some fairly zany kit, and just like
last year, we've got yet another
incredibly weird laptop hitting the scene that promises to be your neck's best friend. The Dreamcom 10 series machine features a vertically adjustable LCD along with a docking station to avoid using that totally cramped integrated keyboard. If you can make it past the outside without gagging (okay, so it's not
that bad... maybe), you'll find a 2.2GHz T7500 processor, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a couple of USB 2.0 ports, ExpressCard slot, 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600, Bluetooth / WiFi and a 160GB hard drive for good measure. Not a peep has been uttered in regard to pricing, but c'mon, your health is worth whatever they charge, right?

Weirddd.. Screen idea is kinda cool but if they happened to read any book on keyboard ergonomics they'd know that propping up the back is the worst thing to do, you are supposed to prop up the front to give your wrists a better angle...Hey sue me I only know this cos my wrists are killing me right now!
Docking station allows you to avoid using the integrated keyboard. I.e., use it as a normal, not-propped up laptop when you're out 'n about. But dock it at your desk, and feel free to use a keyboard plugged into the docking station, and lift up the screen so that it feels more like a desktop.
Personally, I love the idea. None of this "my laptop is a secondary computer" idea. It actually makes it more viable (at least ergonomically) to feel like a desktop computer when you want it to, yet still be portable, which is what I think the purpose of a laptop should be.

First of all, and most important, that keyboard is exactly the opposite of ergonomic!(is this engadget's description, or did they pull it from the official site? I couldn't find it) See: Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard. That is what I own and it's the best keyboard I've ever had for under $50. Split keyboards that are arched are ergo, not boring, flat, straight, bend-your-wrists-into-ulner nerve-catastrophe keyboards, like the one they are selling. Here's someone at least trying: See: Acer Extensa. It has a curved keypad at least, which is about as ergo as it gets for laptops, but I found it quite comfortable.
Now, the screen on this puppy is a very nice addon, and frankly, I'm curious as to why it's taken someone this long to produce one? We have lcd's that can rotate, why not this? Hopefully more manufacturers will pick this idea up and elaborate. Give it a colorful giraffe neck or something.
Also, what's 'totally adjustable' about this? The screen goes up and down, no different than a toddler on crack. Yes, it's innovative. Yes, it's about time. And yes, without the stupid dock, and with an actual ergo keyboard, I'd consider buying one. The hardware inside is nothing to pitch stones at, I'll give it that, but this is one ugly mutha. This laptop is the brown orthopedic shoe of notebooks.

There's nothing ergonomic about a tilted keyboard, and I really don't understand why this is such an unknown fact.
