Next generation Xbox 360 with built-in Blu-ray coming in 2008?
Ok, here we go again. Despite Microsoft's attempt to quash Xbox 360 Blu-ray rumors, they're back... with a vengeance. According to "industry sources" speaking to DigiTimes, Lite-On is developing built-in Blu-ray Disc drives for the "next generation" Xbox 360 game console. Lite-On is expected to begin shipping the new BD players for assembly in the second half of 2008. DigiTimes also claims that the new, presumably smaller Xbox 360 will reduce the power supply from 210-watts to 170-watts. So... care to comment, Microsoft?Update: As noted by our readers, Falcon-based 360s are already running at 175-watts.

Because I laughed, I'll give you one reply to make your trolling feel a little more successful.
No, you see, unlike the PS3, the 360 blows air out the back- it doesn't suck it in.
I'm going to kill myself... Damned reply system doesn't work right on this computer unless I refresh like a million times.
Well, M$ just came out with an official release acknowledging the new console, so the rumors are now put to bed!
'Recon Edition' with a 1 TERABYTE HDD (holy crap!), bundled with COD4 GOTY and optional bluray.
Daaaayam!! Don't feel too bad if you just bought one...

Made ya look. Happy April Fools anyway Rich!
;)
They dont have much of a choice for HD video anymore.
Can we rename Blu-Ray to HD-DVD since thats what it is? High Def DVD.
today is april 1. So try again readers.
Yea, this gotta be a joke. "Lite-On"? Plus, if I were Sony, I'd let Microsoft flap in the wind and would NOT negotiate with them to let them use Blu-ray tech. Yea, they may not get those bucks but that's the competition and you can't let them eat off your plate....or at least wait another 9yrs when current gen is moving on to the next gen. But, of course, by then, someone will come up with something better...maybe...
SONY DOES NOT OWN BLU-RAY.
That is all.
Best April fools statement of the day so far.
"Plus, if I were Sony, I'd let Microsoft flap in the wind and would NOT negotiate with them to let them use Blu-ray tech"
Yeah, and then MS could refuse to sell their Windows OS on any Vaio's... or even refuse to allow Sony to use Windows Mobile on their new Ericsson smartphones. Or perhaps when the first wi-fi TVs start coming out, MS could create a Windows patch that blocks all Bravias. Right??
Please, c'mon people. Business is business. Sony and MS are down for where the money goes. Bottom line.
Blu-Ray in 360 = Higher sales of Blu-ray discs
Blu-Ray in 360 = Higher sales of blu-ray drives
Blu-Ray in 360 = higher sales of 360
The only thing Sony has to worry about as far as the PS3 is losing that one small edge where they Trojan'd Blu-ray into their machines. If MS comes out with some form of Blu-ray, then it puts the PS3 and 360 back on the same level playing field.
Gots to be another April fools joke. Oh the horror the internet is on April fools day :(
don't believe this cake. fyi to Engadget, this is how pointless uproar gets caused. no one understands the underlying humor nor the absurdity of this to realize it's not true.
it's too late now though. it has begun lol.
Can something like this actually be an April Fool's joke when we get it every other week anyway?
Wow, this has to be an April Fools comment, cause Microsoft can't leave the other 17 million 360 owner in the dust without an external Blu-Ray drive, the article only mentioned an internal drive with a slimmer 360, what a lie.
Why was this article removed from the RSS feed?
you're right! I just realised that!
Not to start another rumor mill but I have heard that not only does Microsoft plan to decrease the power consumption but they also plan to incorporate the power brick into the console itself. FYI
I think this is bogus, and the reason is because developers would want to utilize the extra storage space of bluray. However if they did, then any non-bluray 360 would become useless. I highly doubt microsoft would do that.
