ASUS replacing Eee PC 900 batteries with longer lasting versions
Attaboy, ASUS. Not even 24-hours after reports starting flooding in over end users receiving less capacious Eee PC batteries in Hong Kong than expected, the firm is stepping up and doing the right thing. According to an admittedly rough translation of a statement on its website, ASUS is openly thanking its supporters for their business, and while it seems as though it's still chalking the whole mishap up as a simple mistake, every single Hong Kong-based customer will be receiving a free (5800mAh) replacement. 'Tis a shame we'll likely still be griping over the battery life.

does that mean the HK EEE buyers will end up with two batteries instead of one?
that would've been real nice~
REPLACING
I don't know, it sounds like it may be possible they will end up with 2 (yes yes, even though they use the word "replace"). And either way, good job Asus.
It's pure replacing. Users take the battery to the Asus Royal Club (that's actually the name of Asus' service centre!) to swap for a bigger one.
Ultraportables should always have 8-cell, high # of Joule options, because they really don't add that much additional weight to an already light laptop. I hope they have a 6 or 8-cell option soon too.
Problem is, it adds size.. a giant bulge at the bottom of the laptop = not cool.
yeah size is the key - cant wait for new battery developments, thats for sure

I can't take anymore posts on the Eee PC! It seems like two-thirds of the posts are about this freaking piece!
:'(
then go away
I still love engadget, just tired of hearing about the same gadget over and over again.
)':
Nice to see this comment on something other than an Apple news post.
I am not blasting you or anything like that, but I will just say this: popular gadgets are popular topics.
Just as in the case of the *gasps* iPhone, this is a product that has captured many people's interest and has transformed a market (okay, has this thing not prompted many manufacturers to prepare comparable laptops; did the iPhone not prompt or at least popularize other manufactuers' making wholly touch screen phones?). Until the next big thing comes along, there will probably be more posts about the Eee PC.
You sir are a jackass. The really neat new idea with the inter-web is that all dweebs, no matter their interest can decide to not read an article based upon it's title.
"But how" you might ask.
It's really quite simple. First read the title. I know this is hard for many of you. From many of the comments I see, many of you look a the picture, and immeadiatey regiter your distaste or love of the product based upon your age/location/sexual inexperiance... etc. Please refrain!!! I know how hard it is to concentrate when you.ve never had sex. I can only imaging what that's like past 18 let ae 30, but... I beg, read the title, and if you don't like the subject.... skip it. It takes less than a second to comprehend.
Do the world a favour, and stop being a douche.
P.S. I wrote this on my Eee which should explain the occasional missing letter... The bitchyness... That's gods fault.
I completely agree. There's at least 5 posts a day on this thing. I don't even see why people like it, its like a toy laptop. Every post is either on this or Apple
way to step up customer service asus!
Mmhmm. Asus=Class Act, as opposed to Dell and HP. If Microsoft ever made windows proprietary, this would be the company I'd trust with that power. Which is ironic, because they're the ones with the dignity to offer windows alternatives.
So the correct battery will provide how much battery life? i hope its better than the 2 hours in all the reviews, i need 4 or better, otherwise count me out Asus!
Bigger and longer lasting? The ladies will surely like that.
I cannot possibly comprehend...
Can't say that about another Taiwan-based company.
Yea I'm looking at you HTC!
Does this mean the Brazilian thieves won't have to risk replacing the batteries anytime soon?

Okay, so all *Hong Kong* customers are getting a 5800mAh battery. What about people who will be buying one in the US or the UK? What size will they get?
Is 5800mAh going to be standard on all Eee900's now, or what?
UK users get screwed as usual, the 900 was also supplied in the UK with the same 4400 battery. So far ASUS have ignored the problem (as well as all the emails that owners have sent).
