ASUS' Eee 904 gets official. Officially boring.
ASUS has apparently gotten totally, righteously official on its Eee 904, according to reports. Word on the street is that the new iteration of its overflowing line of micro-laptops will be headed to shelves very soon, though it won't exactly pack a groundbreaking set of features. As we previously reported, the system will feature an 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 display -- but now full specs include a 900MHz Celeron M CPU, 1GB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive, and an install of Windows XP on board. Keep in mind the keyboard on this model mirrors the one used on the larger Eee 1000, though little else is different about this model versus the Eee 901 (which incidentally gets a price cut to £299, or about $595). The 904 will retail for £269 ($535), and will be available mid-July.

ASUS have to win the prize for the most confusing roll out of notebooks ever. The 901 seems to have been replaced even before it arrived. Anyhow, I bought a 900 and the screen is nice, everything works fine, but the keyboard is too small, unusable for my ham fists. So, the 904 kinda looks right, though I'll probably wait for the 1000 to avoid that bevel. Sold the 900 to a girl I know, she loves it.
Prices will fall when the Wind and others get to market.
EEE-nother?
Eeerelevant now that you can pre-order the Acer Aspireone for $380 and it will supposedly deliver in August.
Does the warranty cover breaking wind?
Needs a smaller screen, and bigger bezel
well played, sir.
I'm surprised they're still releasing EEE's with the celeron CPU's, whats up with the Atoms?
Short supply, I believe.
Boring is right. Asus has focused so much on marketing and brand-name recognition that they lost sight of what made the platform popular in the first place: value and functionality. I can think of much better ways to spend my money.
I fail to see what "value" or "functionality" you could possibly get out of the original Linux based Eee Surf models. The only Eee they've made that remotely tempted me was the new Windows XP model, but unless you get the more expensive 8GB version - or have a usb hdd, you aren't getting much out of it.
In my opinioon, Eee PC's won't be really good until they get a minimum of 20GB NAND.
Asus really can't win can they. They create the 7" Eee and people complain about the keyboard and screen size. They create new Eee's with larger screens and keyboards at a higher price, and people bitch yet again about the cost and the 'direction" of the company. The MSI wind does the same thing, except with a smaller battery (hence cheaper) and nobody says a word. Ugh.

Hey guys at least this one's still a laptop.
Needs more bezel!
I feel strange urge for even more bezel.

They sure are diluting the brand with all these stupid new models, but I am very happy with my little black 900 I got for $540.
I really couldn't care less if they don't ever sell another EEE now, I've got what I want. (It appears I bought the last model they released that made sense...)
So the 901 doesn't make sense with its improved case, the cely swapped for an Atom, a bigger battery, Bluetooth, Wireless N and it costs less?
"though little else is different about this model versus the Eee 901"
I think there is a big difference between the 901's Atom and this Celeron, not?
What happened to the EEE price. Those micro laptops where also to have a micro price tag. Now they are the same price and any other laptop out there. For the same prices as the 1000 I can get a laptop that has a richer set of features. I thought the whole point of the EEE laptop line was the low cost, small size and lowered specs. Now it is just a bit smaller and lowered specs with a higher price. What is the point now or the benefit now?
Apparently, size is a premium. I can buy a full featured laptop for the price of a 1000, but I will still pay for the size especially since it is exactly what I need. It is still a better option than having a high-spec small laptop at $1400.
The problem is since the first EEE we assume that smaller laptops should cost much less. The market is settling down.
It's small and it does the job.
Acer Aspireone is much cheaper for similar specs (if not better).
Boring is right, especially when I can purchase a full size
laptop for the same price as most of these new models
Asus is well on schedule to have 40 different EEE models by Christmas. Keep up the good work!
Yep, and only 14 of those EEE models are actually laptops.
Someone really needs to give Asus' marketing and design teams a lesson in modern aesthetics. The logo looks like the insignia of a 90s TV order product, and the overall design of the product is absolutely atrocious.
"ASUS' Eee 904 gets official. Officially boring."
...then don't post it?
I don't see what all the Asus bashing is about. Yeah, they're expanding their EEE brand, but they also are giving end users a plethora of choices. Its the flexibility of the EEE brand, the fact that I CAN have the 1000 keyboard and a hard disk drive in the small 900-901 package.
its a great thing, not a bad one.
Would mods for the 900 have more space to get around?
After some thought I like it, due to medical reasons the 901's keyboard is to small for me but the 1000's keyboard I can live with. Add in the cheaper price tag for the 904 versus the 1000 and I have this on my must buy list.
In this day and age who in the hell would want a 900 mhz processor.
I would Like a 900 Mhz proseser the one I have now is a 256.
I think it is preaty cool cause its small and it can run Halo one
Man I love that game. Now I think I'm going to get it cause
I wan't a micro laptop.
