Lenovo S10 delayed two months?
We're not sure what to make of this, but Liliputing says that orders for Lenovo's sharp S10 netbook have been just been delayed for two months. Given the standardized nature of the Atom-based internals and this little guy's recent appearances in the wild and at the FCC, we'd venture that this has more to do with stock issues than with design problems, so hopefully things will get sorted a lot quicker than two months -- although apparently even Lenovo didn't know what parts it was putting in this thing, so who knows what's going on. Anyone else have an order pushed back -- or better yet, shipped out? Let us know in comments!

I ordered my S10 on 8/20/2008 which I believe is a day after they went on sale. My current Est. Ship Date has being showing 9/24/2008 since I ordered it.
gibber9583 @ Sep 10th 2008 1:31PM
Ditto!
scmr2 @ Sep 10th 2008 4:37PM
Your ship dates will not change until that day has passed. If you call, they will tell you the new ship dates.

Many people have called.
Jester @ Sep 10th 2008 11:47AM
Just checked my S10 order. Scheduled to ship on 9/16 before, still scheduled to ship on 9/16 today. I'll keep an eye on it, though...
jibberjabbs @ Sep 10th 2008 11:57AM
Yea, I ordered on 8/19 and got a ship date of 9/9. So this morning the ship date changed to 11/18!!! What are they waiting for prices to go down before they build these? This is crazy. Yea if I wait till 11/18 there will be a dozen new eee models and price drops on everything else. This pretty much kills off the B.S. S10. Nice one Lenovo!
Jester @ Sep 17th 2008 11:25AM
Yep, spoke too soon. Now my ship date has been pushed back a month.
Evan Hunter @ Sep 10th 2008 11:49AM
A guy I worked with also has been displaying the 9/24 ship date since he ordered...

Who is Bradford Linder?
luisengard @ Sep 11th 2008 4:05AM
I don't get it... Who is him? I googled him but found nothing special... I'm too curious!
Brian @ Sep 10th 2008 11:59AM
I called Lenovo Monday and was told my S10 would be shipping before the end of the month... which is the time they quoted me originally (9/23)
Martin Trautmann @ Sep 10th 2008 12:01PM
... and no nore linux support for customers...
T61 and R61 where offered with Suse. But this offer is gone by now.
S9 will be built with Suse, but won't be offered for you :-(
One more company to avoid...
staypuft13 @ Sep 10th 2008 12:03PM
I've got no idea on the status of my S10. I responded to them with an email to cancel my order after the whole graphics misrepresentation, but never got an email back from them and the charges are still “pending” on PayPal. Not only that but I can't seem to access their website anymore! Lenovo really made this a mess from the get go.
Kris @ Sep 10th 2008 12:12PM
Get a new ISP
Kris @ Sep 10th 2008 12:11PM
Sounds to me like all of the people who had ship dates before 9/10 are pushed to November. Since it's first come first serve, anyone who has a ship date of later than 9/10 will probably get a November or maybe even December ship date.
Ouch
Ian @ Sep 10th 2008 12:12PM
Lenovo's website says the S10 "ships in MORE than 8 weeks".
stevenfbchi @ Sep 10th 2008 12:18PM
1- go to newegg and type 1000h
2- buy 1000h for 450$
3- Cancel Lenovo S10 & Call 866-96-Think
4- Wait til monday and get the 1000h!
chop @ Sep 10th 2008 12:24PM
ive already done that. except i still plan on getting my s10. ordered my 1000h yesturday after the recent price drop with free ship and no tax. still keeping my s10 order open though as i got it for 350 w/tax and free ship.
Skemo @ Sep 10th 2008 1:08PM
Why do you have to be such a hater?
Dustin @ Sep 10th 2008 12:23PM
My original estimated ship date was 9/9 for my order placed on 8/19.
My new estimated ship date is 11/18. I just canceled my order. :)
The new 1000h price sure is nice, and makes the S10 not as appealing anymore.
chop @ Sep 10th 2008 12:25PM
but the s10 is almost a pound lighter, and alot smaller as the s10 has a way smaller bezel around the lcd compared to the 1000h
HDE @ Sep 10th 2008 1:42PM
@chop:
But the 1000h has a 6cell battery so that will add some weight. I was waiting for the s10 but I am considering the 1000h as well due to the new price drop.
Dustin @ Sep 10th 2008 4:21PM
@chop
You are definitely right, it is lighter and a bit smaller - but the added weight isn't terrible, especially considering the extra battery capacity like HDE mentioned. My main "regret" by ordering the S10 was the fact that it had a 3-cell battery. This gives me an opportunity to either go with the 1000h or the $399 Acer Aspire One (Bluetooth, bigger screen and keyboard on the 1000h is nice). The 6-cell battery is too much to pass up.
Adam @ Sep 10th 2008 12:25PM
If this is true, will people flip out and blame this on Lenovo's CEO like they did to Jobs when the iPhone got pushed?
Tim Cuculic @ Sep 10th 2008 12:34PM
I ordered my S10 on 8/20/2008. My Est. Ship Date still says 9/24/2008. It has not changed.
diredesire @ Sep 10th 2008 12:39PM
what the heck? I ordered mine 8/19, had a ship date of 9/9, and I got pushed back to 11/18. if this is really first come first serve how come you guys can get yours a month (almost 2) earlier than me? Seems fishy.
Rick @ Sep 10th 2008 12:44PM
There was still a backdoor way to lenovo's ordering site that i posted here on the S10 thingy yesterday. If you placed an order yesterday, Sept-9-08, the esitmated ship date was 11/18/08. So what else is new with Lenovo's notoriously inaccurate ship dates.
No wonder Lenovo wasn't interested in buying any of Dell's factories. Lenovo's corporate culture couldn't handle effieicient manufacturing operations.
steve @ Sep 10th 2008 12:47PM
I had a eee 901 two months ago.. the webcam was malfunctioned so i got a refund. Then I bought a 2133. That computer is ok. Just the Via of course sucks.. but I think this new one coming out is going to be good.. except dual cores is VERY important to me. The screen resolution and keyboard were awesome. Anyhow, I just couldnt deal with the processor so I hocked that one too. I was thinking about buying this lappy until two days ago when I got the news of the price cut on the 1000h.. I was trying to hold out for the s101 but that thing will be pretty expensive (just like the 2133) only the atom is the same as the 1000h so I see no point except for improved form. But if they do decide to throw a WXGA I might have to wait until around christmas and get myself a new toy.
Ryan @ Sep 10th 2008 12:54PM
I just called Lenovo, and the guy told me that my ship date of the 17th of September has been changed to the 17th of November.
I'm rather ticked off, and while I will probably keep my order, I'll think twice about ordering from Lenovo in the future. This is ridiculous.
Ryan @ Sep 10th 2008 12:56PM
Oh, I should mention that the website says 9/17 still. It looks like they only correct the shipping date when the erroneous date has come.
Tripod @ Sep 10th 2008 12:54PM
Now am I pissed!!!!! I placed my order minutes after its official launch. I was refreshing my order status all day yesterday (ship date 9-9-08) said "In Process". Same thing happened, checked the status today, ship date of 11-18-08!!!!! No emails, or phone call, just change the date!!!! When I called, I was informed that they have a 50 day window to deliver the product. The only thing the CS Agent could tell me, wait for the product, or cancel my order. I was also informed about supply and demand by CS, with their back to school specials. That this is a popular product, and they are trying to meet the demand. Ok, understood however my order was not placed hours, days, weeks after it's début it placed within minutes. I informed the CS Agent this is unacceptable, that you have a lot of competition and you have a loyal consumer base and you would rater have people dump their order and go with someone else. The orders should be filled as they arrive, and I hold you accountable to the ship date on my invoice (one to two days I find acceptable, not two months). This CS Agent was steadfast and would not budge, I hung up with frustration. I then called back and got someone else. He was willing to work with me, either an added discount, or arranging a different ship date. I made sure to get his phone extension and name, will be called back 24-48 hours.

I ordered 8/20 and my ship date has always been 10/29. I'll have to check it later. I already canceled my U330 order, holding off on canceling the S10 since I had a coupon and Live.com cash back on it.
Luke @ Sep 10th 2008 1:12PM
My order changed from shipping 9/9/2008 to 11/18/2008 this morning. :(
Richard @ Sep 10th 2008 1:28PM
Engagdet readers make me laugh. They complain that new products are shipping soon enough, they complain when a company puts out a product early with minor flaws do to market pressure COUGH:Xbox360:COUGH, and now they complain that when a company actually delays a product to make sure all quality issues are worked out.
Get real people. If you don't like Lenovo don't buy it. One product launch doesn't make an entire company. Lenovo and IBM for that matter are known for putting out robust high quality notebooks, not for being an efficient profit shifting machine like Dell. If you want a good computer wait for the Lenovo. If you want a moderate computer now get the Asus or Dell.
The US has moved to a drive thru get it now culture and then we wonder why the rest of the world hates us.
The reason Lenovo isn't buying Dells factories is profit motivation. Why would Lenovo want Dells factories so Dell can move their profit around once again. Face it Dell is on the downslide. There is nor more efficiency the can squeeze out of their operation so they are going to sell things off and force the buying to operate at a loss. That is the Dell way.
I have an S10 on order and my order got moved out as well, but I know the reason why and am fine with it. I got a chance to play with one at IDF and am totally fine with waiting for mine. IMHO it is much better than anything else out there and that is worth waiting for.
Rick @ Sep 10th 2008 2:51PM
Lenovo doesn't want Dell's factories because they couldn't deal with efficient manufacturing processes. It screw up their corporate culture. Very rarely does Dell annouce a product for order and then postpone the deliveries for two months. This is probably why Dell isn't taking orders for the E4200/E4300 yet. They want to get it right first.
GhostRider9 @ Sep 10th 2008 4:23PM
Amen. Couldn't have said it better.
scmr2 @ Sep 10th 2008 7:53PM
What is the reason why your order was delayed?
Jose Lopez @ Sep 10th 2008 1:41PM
I am on the same boat. Ordered on 8/19, but my shipping date is 9/23. I just can't believe that Lenovo has not notified its customers of this 2 month delay.
kye @ Sep 10th 2008 1:41PM
i placed my order on 8/20 and on my order status page it still reads that it'll ship on 9/24 but after calling to confirm if this was true i was told that my order would now be shipping in the third week of november, even though my order status has not been updated. i was also told that ALL orders that were being delayed. i'm hoping this isn't true
Grouch @ Sep 10th 2008 1:47PM
I was told by CS that the ship date won't change on the online order page until *after* the original ship date is past. So, only those folks with the 9-9 ship date will see a change. Those with a 9-23 ship date will see it change 9-23 or 9-24.
I wonder how many S10s were cancelled yesterday?
chuckda4th @ Sep 10th 2008 4:34PM
I'm glad I bought the 1000h then. Should be here Saturday of this week.
BOGRASH @ Sep 10th 2008 1:48PM
late, lame and lacking - thats lenovo
pek7683 @ Sep 10th 2008 2:22PM
Yep, I'm in the same boat. I ordered a red s10 on 8/19, ship date shows 9/16 and I've called CS a few times to see where it is at. I seem to always get a different answer, but I'm not about to bail because it is by far the best looking netbook on the market. If only they would have noted "pre-order", I think most of us would be a little less frustrated with this fiasco.
a s10 orderer @ Sep 10th 2008 3:45PM
same here. ordered on 8/19, estimated ship on 9/9, just this morning it changed to 11/18. i'm going to cancel it will shop somewhere else.

Actually, I am guessing this is only for White versions of the S10. Does anyone with a black S10 order have a pushed date?
