Lenovo S10 delayed two months?
We're not sure what to make of this, but Liliputing says that orders for Lenovo's sharp S10 netbook have been just been delayed for two months. Given the standardized nature of the Atom-based internals and this little guy's recent appearances in the wild and at the FCC, we'd venture that this has more to do with stock issues than with design problems, so hopefully things will get sorted a lot quicker than two months -- although apparently even Lenovo didn't know what parts it was putting in this thing, so who knows what's going on. Anyone else have an order pushed back -- or better yet, shipped out? Let us know in comments!

I ordered on 08/20/08 and got a ship date of 10/29/08. My ship date has not changed as of today....
I'm also not switching to a 1000h since I ordered my S10 for $360.
Simply unacceptable. And I don't want to hear Lenovo saying "but we had no idea the demand would be so high!" They're having the same issue with the U330. I've been eyeing that thing for weeks and won't bother putting in an order until they have it in stock (maybe by then they'll put in a better processor). Hell, if they keep waiting, then maybe I'll just go Apple--as long as Apple has the sense to go DDR3 in it's new machines. Bloody hell, going HP would just make thing easier and cheaper.
I will wait till my cashback shows up, and if the S10 isnt here yet its getting cancelled.
My SL500 has been delayed more than a month on its shipping, although that may have nothing to do with the L10. Lenovo stated that the batteries and Bluetooth were the constraints right now.
Ordered a T series on July 17th. On August 25th, received a "5 Day Cancellation Notice" under the guise of "Federal Regulations Require It Due to Non-Shipment (this is true). However their explanation was completely untrue

Actual phone call to the customer service rep and lots of complaining on Sept 5th was able to find out there was some sort of fire in the Asia factory and several orders are severely delayed.
there's the real story of the S line, the T line and several others on why the long ship delays.
I will soon be the proud owner of the MSI Wind...
Darn, I really wanted the S10.
Mine still has a ship date of 09/23/08, ordered on 8/19/08 (black)
My ship date changed from 09/10/08 to 11/18/08. Cancelling the order...
All of you that ordered the s10 on the first day, like I did, go ahead and cancel your orders. I think the S10 is still the best option out there for the money (and ignoring the delay).
So if you cancel your orders, that just puts me further in front in line for an S10.
Thanks!
I'm canceling my order. My ETS date is 09/23, but when I inquired by e-mail for an updated ship date, I was told 11/17. I just bought an Asus EEE100H for $449.
Now we can definitively add Lenovo to the list of CONFIRMED INEPT NETBOOK PRODUCT ROLLOUT COMPANIES. Until now it was on the SUSPECTED INEPT NETBOOK PRODUCT ROLLOUT COMPANIES.
I was kicking myself that I had not gone head and ordered a 3-cell S10 the day they announced them to be available...now I am glad I have gone ahead and ordered an Acer Aspire One (cross fingers that PC Connections meets its shipping date.)
I didnt get to order when they where out and who know when I'll get another chance.. I might get mine in 2009...I will wait becuase I prefer this 10 inch machine for my needs.
I ordered a red S10 on 8/19 and my original ship date was today, Sept. 16th. It just updated my order status and the estimated ship date is now Oct. 14th. I agree that they should have called this a preorder so that we all knew there could be delays. I've looked at some of the other comparable machines, but I want this one. Now.
I also order a red one on 8/19 and it originally showed a ship date of 9/16. The order status now shows 10/14 even though a Lenovo rep shared a November date when I called on the phone this past Friday. I think the only thing that is for certain is that Lenovo doesn't currently have their act together. If an Asus 1000H shows up at the right price I'll likely buy it. Who needs this kind of frustration and uncertainty in their life?
I feel sorry for you guys waiting for mail-order deliveries...
but I was walking through Changi Airport yesterday and picked on up in the Duty Free. They had heaps in stock. 1GB +120GB HD. Very nice.
i called customer service when this article first came out and they told me that it would ship the 3rd week of november but i checked my order earlier today and [on the website at least] it says that it shipped today.
I ordered mine 8/19 and I called yesterday morning to see if they were going to ship sooner than the posted 11/18 on my order status and the guy told me Oct. 18 which was better. Then it shipped monday afternoon and i got it today 9/24 which was the original ship date! wtf?
i'm just happy i have it now lol.
They sent to me at Sep. 24, and UPS going to deliver it to me today
My daughter began her first day at college yesterday as a commuting student. Because she was not keen on the idea of lugging a 5-pound laptop to and from school and to every class, I researched netbooks. While there are many netbooks available, the Lenovo IdeaPad S10 offered the best balance between screen and keyboard size, weight, and price for us. When Lenovo began accepting orders, I ordered one for $367 on August 19 and was given an “estimated ship date” of September 19th.
About once each week, I checked the order status to see if the estimated ship date was changing into a firm ship date; it never changed. When the ship date did not firm-up in the days before September 19th, I began to worry the S10 would not arrive in time for her first day. With my friend, Google, I found several online forums with postings by people who ordered S10s. People with estimated ship dates of September 9th saw the date come-and-go, and only then did they see their estimated ship date change – to two months later!
I called Lenovo to inquire about my order and was told that all S10 orders were delayed by 50-60 days! I was not happy, not only because my daughter would not have a laptop in time for the start of her first trimester, but at least as important was the poor communications by Lenovo on the true status of my order. If I had known of the long slip in shipping, I would have been able to make an informed decision and seriously consider alternatives such as the Asus Eee PC 1000H or the Dell Inspiron 9.
I decided not to leave this problem alone. I crafted a single, laser-targeted email to a senior executive in Lenovo Operations. Within a few hours, I received a reply with an apology and an indication that my issue would be handed-off to a staffer.
The next morning, I received an email from the Chief of Staff in the CEO’s office! He again apologized for the issue and looked into my order. Over the next week, we exchanged several emails but the bottom line is that unfortunately, there was nothing he could do to ship the S10 any sooner than October 14. He then offered to ship me a loaner laptop – a Lenovo “Reserve Edition”. I discovered this is a $5000 limited edition leather-wrapped laptop! While a bit worried about handing-off this über-laptop to my daughter, I accepted this generous olive branch. I was then handed-off to a woman in the “Office of Bill Amelio, President & CEO”, who arranged for the Reserve Edition laptop to be shipped overnight. She even included the labeling for Lenovo to pay the cost of the eventual return to Lenovo.
It’s going to be difficult to return this sweet notebook in a few weeks and downgrade to the S10. I must commend Lenovo for their handling of my concern. As I told the Chief of staff, “This is analogous to loaning a Maybach when having a Hyundai serviced.”
order placed 6 weeks ago shipped today
Ordered mine on August 19th shipped October 2nd and will deliver on October the 6th. Had called Lenovo to complain about the delayed shipment and received $50 dollars off of my order for two. Each will come out to slightly over $300, shipped including taxes.
Received mine today. Originally scheduled to ship 9/24...Lenovo changed to 10/22...then shipped on 10/3. Whatever! It's here. So far pretty nice. Upgraded RAM to 2GB. Seems very quick. We'll see what it's like after I install Office and all my work apps. I'll miss my Samsung Q1 touchscreen...
