New Nintendo DS purportedly confirmed for tomorrow
You know how it goes -- first comes the far-out rumor, then comes something a touch more believable, and then the company itself issues an all-too-familiar non-denial denial. According to MCV sources, the next step in the process will happen tomorrow, as a revamped DS storms into action at 5:00AM GMT on the 2nd of October. As for specifics, we'll have to wait for Iwata's supposed announcement to find out more, but we'd be utterly shocked to see this ship after Christmas. That is, if this isn't just some elaborate scheme from the Big N to distract us all from realizing that Wiis will still be impossible to find this holiday season two full years after launch.

Oh goodie--yet another thing for my kids to ask for for Christmas. :) Maybe it will suffer the same fate as the Wii and I can just tell the kids it's all sold out. :)
:'(
Speaking as a child, thats so depressing to hear :P
Evil santa! *hissssssss*
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Nintendo is releasing what the PSP was 3 years ago?
Why is this even news?
I bought DS in august as part of my birthday so I'm incredibly miffed. I suppose if its better with new advancements then ill trade but only if it has backwards compatibility, although new media format besides from cartridges would be nice.
microSDHC support perhaps?
MicroSD support would be great! Cut out the need for something like an R4 to pirate games!
How about adding support for WPA security?
YES!
i don't care, i only have a ds, wii, 3 macs, and a (currently) bsd box so i just run wep. but every time my nefew comes over with his psp which only supports wpa it presents a headache. so that, or i suppose psp should adopt wep.
@EMoShuntz
The PSP supports WEP, it originally only supported WEP. Plus its actually really easy to set up connections on the PSP.
@xitl
so a firmware upgrade would fix it? if so, you are awesome, thank you!
I'm guessing wireless-G, some form of flash memory adapter cartridge, improved battery life, better speakers, and possibly a bump in in the LCD screen.
microsdhc is supported by the M3 Real card :)
Take off every 'Zig.
New DS almost sure to include:
1) Capacitive touch screen, no stylus.
2) Wii-sensitive Accelerometer
3) Bigger screen(s).
Imagine playing a game like LocoRoco on it. This is what I was waiting for.
1. That would really **** with the backwards compatibility. There are too many games that need the precision of a stylus.
There are no acceptable excuses for Nintendo not producing enough Wiis to fulfill demand. People should be able to walk in to any retail store that's supposed to sell the Wii and walk out with a Wii nearly 100% of the time.
They are making nearly 2 million Wiis each month. Pretty huge number actually. That's like 67 thousand Wiis each day. That's like $15 million worth of Wii consoles each day. Consider it for a sec. That's already huge amount of factories China full of Chinese workers working 24 hours a day in shifts.
The new DS will definitely not be in stores before Christmas. They're in production but shouldn't be ex-China until mid-October - cutting it too fine for a decent holiday season, so it's likely that Nintendo will avoid making consumer enemies with exclusivity and will push back any releases until at least January.
Man, saving up for a computer will be a lot harder with a $200 chunk taken out of my budget.
I should have a unit in my hands this friday to start testing. From what I hear it will just have a new insta-charge battery or something like that that will make it so you only have to charge it for FIVE minutes.
I swear that's my cat, my old roommate's DS. I swear I took that picture. You guys raid facebook much?
