Just when we think things can't get any worse for the Eee's bedraggled reputation as a brand, along comes ASUS with a subtle deviation to give us some much needed hope. The "fashion-friendly"
S101 ($699 to $799), which will ship in brown (seriously?), champagne and graphite hues, and feature a 10.2-inch WSVGA LED-backlit display, an SSD up to 64GB in size, 4-in-1 flash card reader, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, a VGA output, three USB 2.0 ports, 0.3-megapixel webcam and a multi-touch trackpad. In related news, we've got the remarkably heinous
904HA (shown after the break), which inexplicably comes in puke green and lollipop red (or black, phew), and includes a 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, 6-cell battery and a $399.99 price tag. You're stoked, aren't you?

the aspire has a smaller footprint than the 904hd. it's is in the same shell as the 1000h.
the 904HA comes in the 1000H case, but with a smaller screen. It has a keyboard comparable in size to the HP Mini note, so it's basically a 92% full sized laptop keyboard (or close). Over the Aspire, you have a SATA harddrive so you can easily upgrade to any new SSD. PLUS it's a lot more easy to upgrade anything on it. You have to dismantle the Aspire, nearly completely, in order to upgrade anything.
Where the heck is the Dell E Slim, August??? September??... Engadget put the pressure on 'em!
Apple innovates and then the others follow...
...what? This is supposed to be a netbook, though you'd never know it looking at the price. How are they following Apple with a product that doesn't even have an Apple equivalent?
I find it hard to believe that so many people believe Apple is perfect and other-worldly. Rather, I think it's more likely that our reactions and the infamous nature of the stereotype drives the comments. After all, Apple is a computer company not a cult.
Didn't you get the memo Brett?
When making references to devices that copied Apple, the only criteria required is for Apple to have the capability of making it.
I'm sure theres a GM forum where Serge Eluhu said the same thing about the new Camaro.
I hope the S101 has Expressgate!
So this 904HA seems to be just like the 900HA announced a few days ago, except with a 6-cell battery instead of 4-cell?? Great.
And that S101 is just a trendy looking version of the same old?
I'd think about getting the S101 if it sported a dual core atom.
Unfortunately, it doesn't...but I've got to say, that's a pretty thin netbook.
What is it with 0.3 MP cameras? We really should have retired that size 2 years ago.
"puke green" -- hehehehe (depending on what you had earlier in the day)
It's a laptop !

Like the thickness (0.6" to 0.8" it looks like)! Nice to see somebody doing something different here, and you've got to give them credit for that.
If that's it for their innovation though, the price is too steep. $100 more for some sex appeal, sure. $200-$300 over a $350-$399 netbook? I don't think so...
For that price it should be an SLC SSD for improved performance, a little more vertical resolution, a better keyboard (they didn't fix the right shift key), and maybe a leather wrapped shell...? At least if we're going to go the whole brown route...
