Toshiba launches Satellite Pro S300 / S300M laptops
Toshiba's never been one to really pump out laptops with oodles of sex appeal (a few Portégé machines notwithstanding), and its latest two are decidedly drab. Aimed squarely at business users, the 15.4-inch Satellite Pro S300 and the 14-inch Satellite Pro S300M (shown after the break) both include a 2-year warranty, support for docking, a business card reader, a USB Sleep-and-Charge / eSATA combo port and face recognition software. As for the S300, you can snag it with your choice of a Core 2 Duo CPU, up to 3GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160GB 5,400 RPM hard drive, dual-layer DVD burner, WiFi / Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Intel's GMA4500MHD graphics, a built-in webcam / microphone and a 9-cell battery pack; the S300M gives you pretty much the same options but with a smaller screen and chassis. Take your pick, as they're both available to order right now starting at $899 / $829 in order of mention.

Tiny trackpad FTL
damn thats really ugly
So are most IBM/Lenovo machines. Business machines usually appeal to function more than form. This isn't to say there aren't some very sexy exceptions, though (after all, MacBook Air is designed for the business man on the go). Aside from that, Tosh isn't one to invest much into design.
Have you seen the red monstrosities Toshiba releases for Best Buy? Their $1500 gaming computer is a red beast. The specs can make you drool though, so I'd be tempted to get one anyway. At least no one would want to steal it, LOL! Unless they really like big red laptops.
Not only are these ugly, but they feel like they're gonna fall apart...cheap plastic and flimsy construction
I wish those GMA4500 chips had been out before I bought this blasted nVidia chip.
Sent it in three times for repair, and the proprietary drivers are still giving me trouble. Hopefully the new drivers in 8.10 will fix most of the problems I'm having, but man-- I'm not having as many LAN parties as I thought I would and I don't know if $100 would even pay for my trouble..
I don't think it's THAT ugly. It looks OK in the first photo, but bad in the 2nd.
Similar color scheme as the new Macbook Pro leak shots. Yes, they are both fugly.
Dude...ENOUGH with inserting Macbook/Apple/iPhone comments into EVERYTHING, especially where Apple isn't even mentioned!!
This is the SAME colour scheme that Toshiba has been using for..what...like a decade! My A105 has the same colours! And yes, it feels of cheap flimsy plastic but at the time it was the best deal out there for the specs it has. I just have to deal with a cheap chassis...bleh...
Apple didn't invent silver and black paint. Get over it.
Why do Toshiba always get stick here? My Toshiba laptop is still going strong when others have fallen before it.
And I'll have you know my trackpad is that size, and it's the most comfortable trackpad I have ever used. With speed maxed out, it glides across the screen with a simple sweep of the thumb and its also fantastic for precision when it is needed.
My next laptop will certainly be a Toshiba when this one has given up the ghost. They may not have 'sex appeal', but they are functional, reliable, well designed laptops. It's a joy to use.
At least Toshiba still engineers it's own products. And they last forever...
