Intel's Clarksfield to begin production in second half of 2009
Penryn-based Montevina just hit the streets a few months ago, but hardware geeks are fickle fellows, so Intel said today that Clarksfield, its Nehalem-based mobile CPU, will go into production in the second half of next year; sadly, there was no word on when the chips will actually be available to consumers in the Calpella platform, which (rumor has it) will have built-in WiMAX. Clarksfield will include an onboard memory controller and a bunch of other new techs like its desktop brethren, so the promise of performance gains comparable to what we've seen in the desktop benchmarks is there -- we'll just have to wait at least a year to enjoy them, so get comfy.

Delicious.

No, you don't eat them. They go inside laptops, not your stomach, silly.

You are exactly the reason why toxins in tech are a problem.

...Superman must be pissed, Intel cant just take over somebody's field and yield chips there.

I love how Ross Rubin refuses to have open comments on his milquetoast articles. Now with unfixed typos!

why does intel have these code names? why cant they just call them all pentiums and give us the clock speed like they alwais did?
kyle allen @ Oct 21st 2008 1:35AM
... by alwais i mean from the mid 90s up untill recently
Corey @ Oct 21st 2008 1:54AM
Because clocks speeds haven't increased much. However, the number of cores has changed, as well as a lot of other important factors that effect speed other than CPU frequency.

So basically, it's not how fast something's going, it's how far.

i stand corrected/ beg your forgiveness.

Glad to see chip technology constantly improving..

So, Centrino 2/Montevina will be around for about a full year then? I'm thinking of buying a Centrino 2 notebook soon and wouldn't want it to be TOO outdated too soon.
Knives_Out @ Oct 21st 2008 2:06AM
ugh. come out sooner!
Podaman @ Oct 21st 2008 2:25AM
I could see Arnold saying that in your avatar, but not in the same context.
Knives_Out @ Oct 21st 2008 3:31AM
come again?

maybe it can divide by zero

Montevina. As in the brutal hill I had to run up in college as a rower.
Samboini @ Oct 21st 2008 3:30PM
Rowers running? Whatever next, swimmers boxing? Don't worry, I was a rower myself.
Ian @ Oct 21st 2008 3:38AM
Fantastic. MS Office was starting to get a bit slow on today's tech.

Clarksfield puts the image of a giant field of black dress shoes in my head...

I want Nehalem in the notebook, I have read it is a very fast processor. I am putting off purchase of my next notebook till this Calpella platform is available.
With Calpella and Adobe Photoshop CS4 I'll be able to post-process images in much better way. Hurry up Intel!
