12-inch not-Eee PC S101 followup expected this year
If you think ASUS has a lot of Eee PCs in its product portfolio then you should check out its laptop lineup sometime. Last we counted, ASUS was offering over 50 different models of laptops. Here's another: a rumored 12-inch, 16:9 aspect followup to the svelte 10.2-inch Eee PC S101. However, since this edges above Jerry Shen's maximum Eee PC size-threshold of 10-inches, the new slimster will be launched under ASUS' ZX-series and hopefully come packing something a bit heartier than say, an Atom processor. Only, with an expected NT$30,000 (about US$912) launch by year's end, we're forced to stubbornly let go of our hope to find a refreshed Core 2 Duo on the inside.

Eee pc's are getting big. I thought the whole idea of the eee pc was to be small, lightweight and portable. A few more months and well be seeing the new 17in Eee PC.

NOT an Eee PC. Read the article again.
BB @ Nov 4th 2008 4:06AM
the notebook pic said it is EEE.......
KIFF @ Nov 4th 2008 4:11AM
The picture of a EeePC, but not the one being mentioned in the article. Asus has always had 12" ultraportable notebooks before the Eee PC.

BB, are you an idiot?? Just because there's a picture of an Eee Pc doesn't mean you don't have to read the article and just say stupid things!!!
IT'S NOT AN EEE PC!!!
Ian @ Nov 4th 2008 4:21AM
Perhaps BB wanted photos of a machine that doesn't exist yet.

OH MY GOD< you fucking lots said it is not a EEE PC, Asus can name what ever they are!! MORONS!
Asus didnt make EEE PC the name of a specific small type of netbook, you read me??
That is why you and this article is so fucking useless and meaningless!!
Get the fuck clear your mind before you EEE Fanboy gets mad when ASUS debut the latest EEE all-on-one PC!! It is also larger than 10 inch, it is 15 inch !!! So then it is not a EEE????? get a grip fuckers!

Hahahaha, Asus promoted the Eee PC as a netbook and now it succeeded. What they are doing now is against what netbooks are. Its sad to see a company end up killing its own product.

There's no point telling people what a netbook is supposed to be. To me, it's a machine that's a bit crippled in terms of specs, and is to act as a cheap gateway to the internet. That's it. It's a portable machine intended for you to pull out of your bag and write some emails or surf the net. Obviously, the speed of an Intel Atom isn't THAT bad, and so people tried to find other uses for netbooks. However, it's not a stead-fast rule that netbooks have to be tiny (say 10" or under). It's a steadfast rule that it should be cheap and portable, and allow you to carry around and surf the net whenever you want.
The only features a netbook needs are many different ways to connect to the internet, which means it requires the latest ways to do so. It doesn't need DVI out, or the ability to play games. It's THESE things that take these machines away from the netbook category, not the size. After you start adding things, it's an ultraportable, not a netbook.
Netbooks are popular because what everyone is expecting an ultraportable, when all this does is raise the specs, and price, of the machine too high. I don't want to own a $500 machine with VGA, expresscard slot, etc....to carry around in my bag to surf the net. Give me 3G, WiMax, etc. Let me use it as an internet device.

ZX1? Did that thing even made it to production? I thought they cancelled it.

I think 12" 1280x720 notebook with atom and a cheap price tag would be a good thing

After seeing the pic, I thought ASUS is bored to the Eee range and are coming up with some Xee PCs.....
Peter @ Nov 4th 2008 1:49PM
this is truly exciting to me, honestly
but i'm only hoping that they will not use those pathetic atom N270's every again
i was saving money for the s101, and now i think my money will go to this instead
well, i also really hope that they are not gonna over enlarge the size of the machine..
like the U6 series, a 12.1" laptop with a body that can totally fit with a 13.3" screen, leaving a butt ugly huge chunk of rim
it will absolutely bring a terrific disappointment if they do so...
i'm counting on you, asus...
