Mars Phoenix lander goes silent, NASA ends mission
The inevitable has happened. Our friend, the loved and loving Mars Phoenix lander has gone quietly into that long, good night once and for all. Even though we joyfully joined the lander on its adventures as it Tweeted from beyond the stratosphere, and thrilled at its explorations, pitfalls, and pratfalls, try not to feel the familiar sting of humanity at the thought of our little robotic buddy facing that call to interminable sleep we all must answer one day. Let's rest easy knowing that the NASA-spawned craft served dutifully and fearlessly right up to the end, when it was overpowered by a horde of space zombies and turned into an undead killing machine. We'll miss you, pal.

@ Joshua Topolsky : what do you mean by "Even though we joyfully joined the lander on its adventures as it Tweeted from beyond the stratosphere, and thrilled at its explorations, pitfalls, and pratfalls" ???? it never left its landing site, only crafts i know going on adventures and explorations are the mars rovers spirit and opportunity. Personally i think the phoenix mission was a waste =P yea i said it.. all it did was examine the soil and rocks it landed on.. and yet no life on mars..

Is there life on Mars?
(Oh, and it was looking for water, and found it. I'd call that a success)
Oh, I always thought it was supposed to fly back with those rock samples?
R.I.P :(
The Transformers must have got it!
It's gone rogue. We just do not know it yet.
Yeah, D. Mars is the new epi-center of singularity.
Goodnight sweet prince.
Just surprises me that the mars rovers are still going after all the later missions have come to an end.
Hrmm i dunno, yes the nasa scientists are book smart but they dont seem to have common sense, Why couldnt they make a small mobile robot with solar arrays to "scout energy" and come bring it back to recharge phoenix. And no it wouldnt cost another 100 million. My highschool made a uber simple solar seeking robot for $100 bucks. So im sure nasa could do the something more complex for $5000 to $10,000 tops.
gps of phoenix location, mini robot seeks out sunlight, charge battery, go back to phoenix, recharge phoenix. tada!
And yes i know im going to get low ranked cuz we just arent allowed to say bad things against nasa.
Nasa should be privatised, there i said it.
I wonder, if this is a real picture, what's taking it ?
NASA did a great and awsome job....there is nobody else can send such a robot to mars in the near future. Hoping one day NASA will send a spaceship carrying human to Mars, or even further beyong solar systerm...it is hight time to explorer the mysterious space
No more money to NASA. Let's give it all to the oil companies an banks. You people need to get your priorities straight. More money for Exxon, AIG and bank of America is the important thing to do this century, not wasting time on space exploration and discovering new technologies. There is still time to fire Obama and hire the republicans to do more of their magic.
