HP reveals multitouch TouchSmart tx2 convertible tablet
While HP mistakenly claims that its sparkly new (but previously rumored) TouchSmart tx2 is the world's first multitouch consumer notebook, we're still decidedly stoked about this here convertible tablet. Boasting a 12.1-inch swivel display (LED-backlit) that's just dying to have your prints all over it, the tx2 will come loaded with Windows Vista, a bezel-mounted fingerprint reader, integrated webcam with microphone, Bluetooth / WiFi, stereo speakers, a 5-in-1 multicard reader and a LightScribe SuperMulti DVD burner. HP's also delivering the oh-so-stylish Reaction Imprint exterior, an AMD Turion X2 dual-core processor, the firm's own MediaSmart 2.0 software, a VGA output, Ethernet and at least one USB port from the looks of things. You're supposed to be able to add one of these to your digital shopping cart right now via HP's own webstore or Amazon.com, but both links currently lead to sections of the intarwebz you don't ever, ever want to see. Hold tight -- we've a feeling HP will be getting really official with this one momentarily.

a DVD mutiburner is of little use. only adds its thickness.
I'm trying to understand your logic here. A DVD burner is useless?
DVD burner... is useless...
You've completely lost me.
3 USB ports, same as the x model.
Have doubts thou... the x model broke after a year. Something that happens just.... 2 many times in this series.
Had 4 HP notes before the TX series, all worked fine. In the market right now, and have no idea what to get. I just know this
HP 12 incher in way 2 heavy. Had a 12 inch sony and a toshiba and are all much lighter. Any of you have a HDX18?
Love the "ATI dual core processor". :)
If this has core 2 instead of amd processors, I'd be so lusting for it.
"Oh, great," she mumbled.
that's what she said?
I love how the Amazon page lists it with "NVIDIA ATI 3200 graphics".
Clearly, they know their stuff.
Two questions: 1. Why the heck does this thing seriously only have 64mb of video power? It's basically an integrated video solution, right?
2. Why the bloody hell didn't they make this a DDR3 system? To keep costs down??? Would have been awesome if they had just stuck an ATI Radeon 3470 in it. Maybe not enough room. I guess as long as it plays ALL multimedia files it should be fine, eh?
.... in 6 months all W7 netbooks will be cheaper, better looking, faster, and have multitouch... and those who bought this one will realize it wasn't a good investment.
Yeah, I mainly agree with you. But after 12 months, this will be the case again, ain't it? Or are there any near breakthroughs in sight?
N-no. I'm taking about Windows 7 launch. It's not a right decision to needlessly get a multitouch netbook right now. 12 months later, the difference won't be a lot bigger than the difference between pre-Windows 7 netbooks and post-Windows 7.
Uh... Well, I just realized, what you meant with W7... Silly me! Sorry.
Nonetheless, I really wonder how the tablets are going to improve. Any speculations?
Come on Sony. Make me a sleek convertible touch tablet. HP is getting ahead of you here.
When are you going to listen HP?
Take out the crappy AMD processor and put in a Core2Duo!
Computers aren't in HP's blood. That would be ink. They can't handle this tech swag(multi touch). Leave the real computer stuff to folks like Apple. Hp is jumping on the bandwagon for bragging rights, only.
seriously. i was looking for something like this but the lack of a core 2 duo and a better graphics card (more gddr at the very least) put me away...
i guess i'll wait another year til windows 7 comes out because, MAYBE then, tablets will be more mainstream and with better specs while keeping a low price *sigh*
Now, does it have shitty Nvidia integrated graphics or good ATI integrated graphics?
Why can't HP get on the 11.1 or 13.3 in screen bandwagon with this model. 12.1 in screens just aren't as sexy, in my humble opinion, as the others.
I like the new color scheme but HP really needs to lose the tacky imprints.
Im still waiting on that consumer netbook tablet.
LED backlit? Better double check. HP isn't stating showing that spec and most sites omit that spec.
The Dell Latitude XT is marketed at businesses, and even though consumers can buy them, they're not marketed to consumers, so HP isn't too far off
Looks fucking awesome!
The TX series have a motherboard issue. The computer die after 13 months and the warranty is for 12 months. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!. I have a list of forums and posts of people angry because all the computers just broken
