Dell confirms shocking truth: Adamo to rival MacBook Air
In a confusing timeline of events that only Charlton Heston could love, Dell confirmed today that it already has touted its soon-to-be-unveiled "Adamo" as a rival to the MacBook Air in a blogvertisement that posed itself as a rumor that Adamo would do just that:
"Rumor has it that Dell is coming out with a computer called Adamo that will rival the MacBook Air. At press time, the company was keeping the product tightly under wraps, but PC users rejoice - word on the street is that something cool is coming your way."The adblog appeared on a "luxury internet magazine," and was noticed by The New York Times Bits Blog, who bounced the copy off Dell, which confirmed it as an ad: "We did this to wake up the personal computing category and create some buzz." This further confirms (or perhaps pre-confirms) what we've heard about Adamo, but we're looking forward to the actual unveiling of this laptop and forming our own real, factual opinions on the thing.

Jesus christ, how has nobody got the colbert reference yet?!?!?!
This article needs some wikiality!
I did. :-) Look up ^^^
Nothing can rival the macbook air that runs windows. Macs are cool because of osx; put vista on a mb air and then it will be comparable to a similar dell.
yes, and 3x the price for comparable specs.
Dell's booth at CES will be a "must see" in two weeks in Las Vegas. I will be there, camera at the ready! Show me something sexy...if not, there is always the Adult Entertainment Expo which will be going on at the same time, at the Sands Convention Center!
ah vegas, electronics and naked chicks, what could be better?
YAY! Another laptop so thin it's almost useless without a bazi-oh wait, this isn't Apple. So it may actually work!
As per usual, this is not much of a rival to the MacBook Air for the simple reason that it is not a Mac. If you are in the market for a Mac then this is not something you would choose. Equally, if you are in the market for a Windows laptop then the Air is not something you would choose either. This is not rocket science. To clarify:
MBA Rivals
=========
MacBook
MacBook Pro
Adamo Rivals
==========
Lenovo X300
Voodoo Envy
...
The only exception to the above is if you are buying your computer for the hardware only and the software running on it doesn't matter much to you. Thankfully, that probably doesn't apply to many people.
Lol Dell calls Adamo a MBA rival to have so free advertising on Hitech blogs and Engadget buys this totally.
Funny.
Honestly the MBA market share is a too small town for both of them...
Aren't those patterns a Louis Vuitton trademark. Don't tell me that Dell hired a fashion designer to design a laptop... Like other crapget makers!
Was there ever a time when haters stayed out of threads that had nothing to do with them?
never, thus the invention of the "rank down" button.
My netbook has no optical drive and works for the light duty I put to it, very light, and goes 6 hours between charges. What's not to love for 350 bucks? Acer Aspire One. My Macbook Pro does all the heavy lifting otherwise. Buy what fits your work processes and your pocketbook, but:
my Macbook (and my wife's) has allowed for home networking and wireless printing and scanning without a single hiccup. My Sony Vaio's NEVER did this properly without delving into networking arcana.
Backups are completely thoughtless and effortless.
No virus subscription plans.
Can make gorgeous movies without a hitch -something my 3000 Vaio's never could accomplish. Funny thing is my netbook actually can make movies!
My Macbook Pro is the best Windows Laptop I have ever owned.
Don't ever buy Sony -it gives high end a bad name and this makes people think the same of Apple.
That's $3000 Vaio, wish I could afford 3000 Vaios -would buy the 30,000 dollar fully loaded Mac Pro with dual 30 inch monitors.
Why is dell doing this?! Come on...the air is not selling.
Nice reference to Bowling for Columbine.
Dell can copy Apple all they want but it is still the Vista machine..
And the apple is still an OSX machine, crippled and lame. This one actually looks nothing like a macbook air, if you look at pictures of it, and while it will be as thin, maybe thinner, it's probably going to cost more, too. It has a chunky rectangular design, rather than smooth curves. Myself, I'll skip both overpriced toys and go with a proper MBA knockoff, the MSI X-Slim, which will cost around $700.
