Is this the VAIO P?
Sony isn't being too coy with the VAIO P, is it? In addition to that teaser image, oh-so-beautiful FCC shot, and mistakenly-posted specs page, CNET's uncovered this pic of the rectangular netbook with its lid open. We can't really tell if the machine pictured has that crazy 8-inch 1600 x 768 display we'd heard about, but there's a lot of the VAIO TT in those lines -- so much so we're wondering if it's a 'shop, albeit a super-hot one. Of course, there's no word on pricing, but we're hoping it's somewhere close to reasonable -- we'll find out in just a couple weeks at CES.
Update: We knew it looked a little too much like the TT -- it's a 'shop. Oh well, at least we can dream.

wow i hope so
no trackpad, i see a red mouse nipple in the centre though, spacebar looks tiny, really not too sure about this.
He nipple... No trackpad would be killer hello mouse.
Hell yeah! A trackpoint (like the one on their old Picturebook) is far more usable than a small trackpad.
wow, that keyboard will be impossible for me to type on.
got chubby fingers huh?
bummer.
"The fingers you have used to dial are too fat, please buy a dialing wand"
RED TRACKPOINT!
DO WANT.
hell ya, actually it was my idea on WePC.com

I for one prefer pointersticks to trackpads and for netbooks as small as yeah are, sticks are more ideal
I'm sorry, what's that? What do you mean "that crazy 8 inch 1600 x 768 display we'd heard about"? Crazy....I could have swore just yesterday you said that it was "underwhelming".
The supposed 1.33GHz processor is pretty underwhelming -- unless it's a Core 2 chip, in which case it won't be cheap. That display res is insane no matter how you cut it, though.
Why would Sony say "an 1.33Ghz Intel CPU" if they meant an atom? Not to mention there is almost no reason whatsoever to use a weird underclocked Atom versus the standard 1.6/1.8Ghz. And it is already so slow anyways, I can't imagine something even slower...
My bet is that the 1.33Ghz is a Core 2 Duo.. In which case this thing will be great!
its kinda ugly
less than your computer
So basically they resurrected the Picture book, gave it better specs...and that's it.
The keys on the keyboard looks pretty small, perhaps it could have been better with out as much spacing between the keys. Perhaps they are trying to make it look like all the other new Sony laptops where there is a good amount of space between each key ( I like the space, but not sure if it will work on smaller keys, then again we will have to wait and see)
The very high Res screen sounds promising, but with the specs seaming to be less then the cookie cutter netbooks...they really NEED to have XP running and not vista. At least we have windows 7 to look forward to on the device. One thing is for sure...that is NOT pocket-able.
If you have the "deep pockets" to afford this device, then it will fit into your pocket :P.
Nice - seems super-tiny. Hopefully the price is at least *somewhat* tiny too...
Darn...first I wanted to tell iEye that he's a moron, then decided that he's not worthy of any attention...and now I look like one of those idiots attaching their opinion to the first post to look more important.
Sigh...
"it's a 'shop."
Yeah.. I thought that screen looked a little tooo wiiiddee..
i dunno, but i think there are screens like that
for instance, i give you evidence that supports my statement, it was a very recent article about windows 7 being leaked early:
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2008/12/27/windows-7-beta-iso-leaked-on-torrent-trackers/
notice how wide the screen is...
"Is this the VAIO P?"
No.
ITS A FREAKING 'SHOP PEOPLE
READ READ THE ARTICLE!
I know it's a Sunday and everything but, just look at it. If you couldn't tell that was a 'shop the moment you saw it, well...
It will be damn pricey! It is sony and there is a sony tax even though it will be powered by MS like all the other laptops out there.
These lil tote books are nothing but reworked umpcs. Go over to Dynamism and check out the swag they carry. Shit there will make your bullocks tingle.
I think yes, and it will match the air
1.6/1.8 Core 2 Duo
2GB
120GB/128 SSD
From $1399
Even with an Intel Atom CPU, this thing will be expensive due to the screen resolution.
And look at it. It's got the Thinkpad nipple. That's great!
Oh look! It's an HP Jornada!
This thing looks SO AWESOME
Well its Sony so I'm sure the price will be a bit much. And if that's the case I might as well by a netbook from dell. I'm sure I can get something a bit bigger for a better price than what they are going to ask for the sony P.
"I could calculate your chances of survival, but sony won't like it."
The era of portable computing, based on the sizes of envelopes. Nice.
Now, If only it could be as thin as an envelope...
This thing will NOT be cheap, sorry guise.
oh, and Vista on 1.3ghz... no thanks!
True, but this + the new Windows 7 beta or/and OSx86 could be pretty tasty, as I've been waiting for a netbook with a decent resolution and trackpoint instead of tiny, unusable trackpad.
Holly crap! That's the biggest business card I've ever seen!!!
I'm not surprised Sony had one of these laptop back 5 years ago with an 800mhz processor the model number was C1MHP it was the laptop I always wanted but never got put if this new one is similar u know where my money's going!!!!
Is a super-wide screen really that useful? I don't think so...
Okay, can you watch a video on this kind of screen? A youtube video.
No Ion = No buy
Looks sexy.. I might get one just to compare with my macbook air..
Love portable machines !
nah this pic is not the same as the one on the leeked spec sheet, it looks like it will have a trackpad, and no nipple.
seriously, sony producing something with a nipple in '09?
what teet are YOU sucking on?
and you looked even more like and idiot when you commented again saying how much of an idiot you are!
Looks sexy, and its probably close to the real thing, but its a Photoshop. Just look at the lopsided screen bezel! Its also not as glossy or rounded as the FCC leak.
I don't understand why Sony would kill the UX for a larger, less unique, laptop-shaped ...thing... with the same specs.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a Sony fan. I even have that UMS55 mouse in the left corner. But the only available UX before its death 2 or 3 months ago (I don't remember) was $2,499.
So how much do you think a UX with ridiculous resolution would be? $2,000-3,000, yeah.
The problem with the UX is that it is like trying to sell people garlic chili sauce when they want ketchup.
The public is going nuts over tiny laptop-shaped devices that are suddenly more affordable. I can see why - laptops can be put on a surface easily and nobody is going to want to hold a UX-sized device and type on it for very long. You always have to hold a UX to use it, while you can rest the laptop somewhere. This is also why the Tilt was so cool - you could put it on a table or desk and use it.
wow.. I used to have those ux umpc but
too small..sold it week later but this one..even if it's fake looks
darn good.. take care my friend !
So I guess that since it's not actually the 'VAIO P', it must be the 'VAIO :P'
The sony eee-pc? It seems more powerful and smart. But the sony product are expensive. so ...........
Beware when using the word n3tbook. Psion's on you!!
Where is the mouse?... is what I am wondering now.
