Considering the way that the
Wii flew off shelves last month, this next item probably won't come as a shock to anyone. According to the
Wall Street Journal, both Nintendo's console and the Xbox 360 trounced the PS3 in holiday sales, with U.S. sales falling nine percent from this month last year. During this same period, sales doubled for the Wii and rose eight percent for the Xbox 360. Perhaps none of this should be a surprise, as Sony declined to cut prices on their system, while a lack of exclusive game titles and a number of inexpensive Blu-ray players went a long way towards making the PS3 the least attractive option in an already
difficult retail climate. If anything, it looks like Sony won't be able to rely on the console to help prop up a flagging electronics division that just announced it will be
cutting thousands of jobs in a bid to boost profitability going into 2009. Happy New Year, indeed.
@ Gamabunta
Microsoft knew it had a 60% failure rate on the 360s...and it still shipped it out. Thats why You save up for getting a ps3. Plus you do know you can HACK it...and modd it! XD Only cost 50 bucks. You can always take it to game trade and they can do it for you. Or find someone at a mall. regardless. You buy a ps3 modd it...there you go plays everything incuding burned blu ray...dvds...and you can take the hard drive out and input a 500gb.
Can Microsoft's 360 do that? Yeahhh.
Only reason playstation is not high on sales is because when parents go and buy the system they look at the variety of games, and they look at the price.... and THE OPINION of those selling it. So which system do you think I should get for my son or daughter?
Sony didnt get this far being stupid. They EXACTLY what they are doing. Ps2 started off the same way...and look at the ps2? Its still making games and going over its 10 year plan that it gaurantees for each console it releases. Ps1 and Ps2....and of course ps3
With the exception of the blu-ray sh!t, you can do all of that on the Xbox. And who cares about blu-ray anyway? More space yeah, that's a plus, but for movies? Overpriced and over DRM'd.
Besides all of that, your parent's argument doesn't work. Yeah people buying stuff for their kids makes up a percentage, but less than half. And when they do, They'd go with the one their kids talk about wanting. I like what you said about the opinion of the people selling the system and the games and the price....was that supposed to work for you? Those are the things that decide the fate of every system, and all things Sony dropped the ball on this time around. The reason the PS2 stayed competitive was because it had a good price, lots of games, and stayed backwards compatible. PS3 has none of those bonuses. Yeah they are making ground and have some good upcoming stuff, but don't sit there and try to write off the Xbox and make excuses for the PS3. Both of em fucked up on several issues. Hopefully both of em will do better on the next round. Competition makes for good games and lower prices.

Home Network would be possible the best thing out for the Ps3 and one of the BIG reasons to get a PS3. Those are just a few titles JUST FOR ps3. Badass at that. Sony has been currently working on 40 projects....that will be JUST FOR PS3.
Like i said in my other comments Sony knows what it is DOING. If it shares its games with 360 lol...because its on LIFE SUPPORT [Gears and Halo..chiya right!...good games but what else yall got?].....Tekken 6? T6:Try bloodline....or FFvs13.....I'm happy hearing this news.
Bill gates and his damn 60% failure rate on 360s. Old man thinks he can get into the game business...what a joke! what a bad joke! XD

TimeSplitters 4
And those are just the games that I personally want to play. Many more already in the works.
All this exclusive crap is a bullshit argument anyway. Sony and Microsoft need to stop paying companies off to keep them exclusive. It's lame and in the end they both lose money on the payments and on the exclusives that they couldn't get. At least many FORMER Playstation exclusives are finally opening up for Xbox IE Final Fantasy and Tekken.
60% Failure rate? No. The 360's failure rate isn't the greatest, I'll give you that, but don't inflate your numbers there sparky. Last reported failure rate was 16%, with PS3's being 7%-10% and the Wii at a low of 3%.
And btw Tekken 6: Bloodline REBELLION, is no longer a PS3 exclusive. Go ahead and watch the trailer on Youtube or your video site of choice.
So why all the name calling and sh!t talk? So what the PS3 doesn't sell as much? Were both being outsold by the Wii. You've got nothin' to say. Get over all this BS and just play your games.
bluray.
20-30 dollar movies vs 6.99-9.99 dvd
bluray value disappears once you look at that. sony and the rest of the studios ensured that bluray didn't take off. massively reduces the value of ps3 as a player. and well buying it as a bluray player doesn't help game sales in general, bad assumption that a value film buyer turns into a gamer. gamers are gamers.
for console gaming it's the price that kills it
for a blue-ray player it's not that user friendly you should be able to just slide in a disk and have it start playing and it should be bundled with a remote, also you can't use a logitech harmony remote in conjunction with it so it doesn't 'fit' well with the whole media entertainment center.
the main question is what is the incentive for someone who owns a X360 to get a PS3, only must have exclusives, even if their console fails BY DEFAULT THEY HAVE TO BUY A REPLACEMENT to play their games on.
friend factors also play in, I have a PS3 but my brother has a X360
