Viliv's S7 ultra-portable gets official specs, but not a release date
Viliv's S7 "productivity MID" got announced in August at the Intel Developer Forum, and, while we were impressed by the form factor and the promise, it's always hard to get too excited without a full spec sheet and an MSRP. Now at CES we're still in the dark about price (and availability), but are finally hearing just what's going on under the keyboard; Atom processors in 1.3GHz and 1.6GHz flavors, a 7-inch, 1024 x 600 screen, 1GB of RAM, and either 16GB worth of SSD or 60GB served up on platters. Wireless connectivity is handled over 802.11b/g, WiMAX, and HSDPA, and the device promises "blueray HD video playback" -- which we're taking to mean it can display 1080p footage without completely choking, but we're not sure just where that video would come from given the lack of optical drive. But, hey, look at that sexy picture! Rest assured we'll prop this up against a VAIO P as soon as we can get our hands on one.

When will people finally learn that it's spelled "Blu-Ray"?
does it has a touchscreen?
@sarty probably if the screen does that.
but yeah, that photo looks TERRIBLE. Looks like a photoshopping of one device's keyboard with another's screen, and by an amateur.
I think I've worked out what it would look like, but that angle is awful.
Their marketing department should be shot.
I agree the angle is horrible.
I cant look at this for longer than 2 seconds....any longer and i feel the need to rip my eyes out of my face
make the price under $400 and I just might pick one up
This thing looks amazing. One of the few devices that would make me want to give up Eee 901, as long as the price is right. The best part: 800 gram weight with the standard battery, but there's an extended battery that is rated for 11 hours or so.
Also the options are 1.33 and 1.86ghz, not 1.6 according the very site you're linking to.
It looks like a nice peice of kit. The only thing that puts me off is size of the bezel, which probably means that this thing is the size of most 10" devices. That's probably the reason for that crooked PR shot.
Engadget posted a piece about this a few months ago, which linked here: http://www.umpcportal.com/2008/08/viliv-s7-atom-based-umpc
There are some better shots and a video, at least of just the form factor.
@sarty yes, it has a touch screen.
This is perfect for me, a portable laptop that can probably double as a tablet. Going to be great for my work (professor). I just really hope the price isnt astronomical, the interview a few months ago said "under 1000" which is probably going to mean 999.95 :-/
i hope everyone here realizes that the blu-ray on this thing is completely pointless due to the fact that the screen's resolution is 1024x600 (not even at 720p quality). The only reason to pick this thing up over any other netbook is if you have an hdtv and want to go to the hassle of connecting the two to watch blu-ray movies, in which case i would suggest buying a more established brand of netbook, as well as a standalone blu-ray player.
Can I ask how it's a robot?
Vaio P? No, that's a bad comparison. You NEED to compare this with the Asus T91, the other Convertible Netbook Tablet that's coming to the market soon. WOOT! So happy! I've been waiting for this kind of computer for awhile. Existing Convertible Notebook Tablets have always been too expensive, big, and/or fragile. But one of these with a SSD should be the PERFECT companion computer! So exciting!
I have looked for a convertible in order to replace my Jornada 690 and Libretto ff1100v. This Viliv S7 has a good form factor (

I have looked for a convertible in order to replace my Jornada 690 and Libretto ff1100v. This Viliv S7 has a good form factor (smaller than 12cm) so one can shift it into a pocket, somewhere between Jornada (up to 10cm) and Libretto ( up to 15cm). The Fujitsu Lifebook U820/2010 is full of features, but the form factor is slightly too big (up to 14cm) for carrying it in a pocket. A Viliv with U820 features would be even better (GPS, 1200x800), but the S7 is very good designed.
