MSI plans to offer X-Slim laptops with Pentium processors

Well, it looks like MSI isn't about to wait around for Intel to deliver those new high-end, lower-cost processors for ultrathin laptops, as the company has just announced that it's planning to offer "high-powered" Pentium processors in its line of X-Slim laptops. That will apparently push the Pentium-equipped models past the $1,000 mark (as opposed to the $800 the Atom-based models will demand), although MSI apparently isn't ready to get more specific than that. The company also doesn't seem to have had much to say about any other potential spec-changes, with it only divulging that the Pentium-based models would will loaded with Vista.

Pentium?
Lol wut?
Like_A_Glove @ Jan 13th 2009 12:17AM
That's exactly why Intel dropped its legendary Pentium Family.
Smart move, Intel.
Tarnation @ Jan 13th 2009 8:38AM
Its all about the Pentiums baby.
Kris120890 @ Jan 12th 2009 6:55PM
Has someone got this wrong.
Pentium?
Seriously?
You man cores 2 duos or something?
Josh @ Jan 12th 2009 6:57PM
I'm sure they mean Pentium as opposed to Atom, not old skool Pentium.
Especially with Vista.
Chris @ Jan 12th 2009 6:58PM
Its still based on core 2, just slower and having nothing to do with the old Pentium everyones thinking of.
Shugg @ Jan 12th 2009 10:01PM
hey , what store u recommend I buy this at,. Uk or American ???
Oli D @ Jan 13th 2009 2:36AM
@Chris, slower is a very bad word to use when talking about "Seepy Yew", it has far less cache but usually a higher operating frequency.
Kris120890 @ Jan 12th 2009 6:58PM
Or possibly Celerons.
Thats What He Said @ Jan 12th 2009 7:02PM
oh god, please, dont....
3rdman @ Jan 12th 2009 8:05PM
That's what he said :D
bobartig @ Jan 12th 2009 6:58PM
From TFA: "The MSI X320 is just 6-millimeters (1.98-centimeters) at its thickest point"
o.O See, millimeters to centimeters is a conversion that I can do in my head, and 6 does not equal 19.8.
If that's an actual shot of the XSlim, I think the VGA and Ethernet are a mistake. They're just so fat and bulky when you're making one of the slimmest notebook products out there.
Verythrax @ Jan 12th 2009 6:58PM
HT, at least?
Thats What He Said @ Jan 12th 2009 7:05PM
Horray high power super awesome desktop chips in net(note???)books
boo 5 minute battery life
Verythrax @ Jan 13th 2009 6:06AM
I used to had a HT Toshiba Satelite. The battery life was good, but it got hot as hell, even locked sometimes due to it. But it was a FAST machine.
Major4Play @ Jan 12th 2009 6:59PM
NEWSFLASH*
Intel have sold a CPU for the last few years called a Penitum dual core. It's exact model is E2000 series. It's an underclocked Core2 chip with a smaller cache (1MB) They are great overclockers (in desktops) and run very cool. You can buy them in many budget laptops.
This is the pentium MSI are talking about.......calm...down
lukas88 @ Jan 12th 2009 7:00PM
Pentium? Day of the Tentacle here I come!
Thats What He Said @ Jan 12th 2009 7:04PM
Pentium 4 HT 3.6GHz please
and thank you
Ian Whelan (JOIN BAND!) @ Jan 12th 2009 8:30PM
Pentium 4 was hot and powerhungry. The Pentium 4 is a no no for any thing that should be thin, light, or portable in any way. Any Core series processor is more efficient and the Core 2 is even more so.
thomas @ Jan 12th 2009 7:08PM
i think it uses the next generation gaming system technology of the pentium 6 axes core
bob @ Jan 12th 2009 7:13PM
i also heard apple is switching the air to a G3 to compete
Abuzar Baloach @ Jan 12th 2009 7:18PM
You guys are retards if you are thinking Pentium 4 or something like that. Like many others have pointed out they mean Pentium as in the underclocked Core 2 Duos with the lower cache.
Thats What He Said @ Jan 12th 2009 7:25PM
cant we have out fun?
Jack @ Jan 12th 2009 7:31PM
I lurve my pentium!
Kris120890 @ Jan 12th 2009 7:34PM
No one was thinking Pentium 4. Its just Pentium are resigned to be under performing versions of the latest cores. I just would have thought they would have gone for something bigger than pentium Processors. considering the price point.
korngames @ Jan 12th 2009 7:32PM
The Pentium D. Enough Said.
dave @ Jan 12th 2009 9:11PM
"The Pentium D. Enough Said."
I hope that's sarcasm

Pentium Pro?
233 Mhz was glorious.
ajmalzx @ Jan 12th 2009 7:50PM
Damn... Seriously...I thought it was 1999 when I read the title.
ichheissesuperfantastisch @ Jan 12th 2009 7:58PM
i know what you mean. i for example, would never click on your stupid site.
bjay @ Jan 12th 2009 8:00PM
Pentium 1 wont be dat bad for a netbook lol, afterall it was once a raise to the bottom until Sony stepped into d game. Now consumers will buy dual core pentiums above 1000 dollars range, well! well! well! the tide is indeed turning
telepheedian @ Jan 12th 2009 8:58PM
Hey dooood bjay, waz up mah brutha? Didja fineesh dat english course or wut?
dave @ Jan 12th 2009 9:11PM
"Pentium 1 wont be dat bad for a netbook"
Pentium 1 = too hot, waaay too big, and about 1/8th the performance of even Atom
bjay @ Jan 13th 2009 2:06AM
I need to work better on my English. It not my first language anyway nevertheless i have to get better.
Dave Chappelle @ Jan 13th 2009 8:13AM
oh, its not your first language.
/everyone who high ranked the reply feels like a jackass.
sorry homie.
CJ @ Jan 13th 2009 8:33AM
Everyone who high-ranked the reply deserves to be high ranked themselves.
You see, when people learn a second language, they usually try extra hard to write or speak it properly. So unless he learned to speak english through gangsta rap videos, he has no excuse.
tnkgrl @ Jan 12th 2009 8:01PM
-Roll eyes- He means Pentium M, people... Like the Celeron M used in the early Eee-PCs, but better! Not the original Pentium, Pentium 4, or Pentium D - same microarchitecture lineage as the Core 2 CPUs (Pentium Pro-> Pentium II/original Celeron, Pentium III/Celeron (Tualatin) -> Pentium/Celeron M -> Pentium/Celeron Dual-Core - > Core -> Core 2)
Kris120890 @ Jan 12th 2009 8:04PM
Yes if you read the comments no one was referring to the old pentium Procs. Learn to read.
Ian Whelan (JOIN BAND!) @ Jan 12th 2009 8:32PM
Kris, look at bjay's comment.
Kris120890 @ Jan 12th 2009 8:38PM
Yes and both comments were posted at the same time.
tnkgrl @ Jan 12th 2009 8:39PM
@Kris whatever :)
dave @ Jan 12th 2009 9:11PM
"-Roll eyes- He means Pentium M, people"
No he doesn't you idiot. Me means pentium Exxx series.
Pentium M is completely different.
tnkgrl @ Jan 12th 2009 9:48PM
@dave
Nice name calling, -beep-head!
Last I checked, Pnetimum E is similar to the Pentium Dual-Core, and is not a mobile processor... Considering the Celeron M is still being used in some netbooks, I still thinks he means Pentium M...
iKurt @ Jan 12th 2009 8:01PM
Get a refurb Macbook Air. It's a better deal, along with the best OS in the industry.
Kris120890 @ Jan 12th 2009 8:06PM
Yes buy a Macbook air and Windows 7 when it comes out.
Trolling the Trollers.
VanillaSpice @ Jan 12th 2009 8:43PM
Yes, buy Windows 7 and a Surface table when they become affordable and can actually do something useful.
Trolling the trollers of trolls. Wait, now I am confused.
Daspl @ Jan 12th 2009 8:45PM
