Video: Sexy Eee PC Touch UI demonstrated

Having trouble figuring out how a touchscreen Eee PC could fit into your life? No worries, ASUS just did all the heavy synaptic lifting for you with the release of a near 6-minute video showing its new Eee PC Touch UI. A UI teased at CES and built specifically for ASUS' new touchcreen Eees. All in all it makes a pretty case for why you should pick up a new Eee PC T91 or T101H convertible tablet later this year. Let's just hope the processor can cope.

Why do they keep sliding out the keyboard? they never use it in this demo. I don't know, to me tablets are sooo yesterday.
Tablets are yesterday? Wha? Then what's today? Back to the notebook only? Um, this can be used in notebook mode if you didn't know. Oh, you don't like options you say? You don't like change? Oh, I see.
Tablets should be the only option for a "laptop" PC. I say heck if you don't want to use it in tablet mode then don't. You could own one and potentially never spin the screen around if it scares you so much.
Own it and never spin it around? Yea; that's a waste of money paying for the unused touchscreen, and lack of durability with swivel compared to standard laptop.
I sure hope that you are talking about tablet pcs, if you are talking about tablets in general ( as in graphic tablets) then you are horribly wrong. Many professionals use graphics tablets daily, as do I.
yeah, i'd tap that screen :p
the video of it looks very cool. but will it run windows 7 decently? and will they lift the 1 GB memory cap on netbooks to at least 2 GB?
i have 2gb in my 701 what are you talking about
"Let's just hope the processor can cope."
I'm hoping they fit it with a halfway decent video processor, too. It doesn't have to set PCMark on fire, but something that can run a DX9 title at 30fps would be fine. I think the DS has shown that 3d gaming on a touch screen can be awesome, and the next generation of "Crayon Physics" type games are going to be what sells the netbook, along with the price.
Sexy
Not that id use it, but it still looks slick and I can imagine soccer mom types liking it.
That video just makes me feel dizzy...
So that's how you say Asus! "a-SOOS". Got it.
I'm kind of sad that Linux never took off on netbooks. I think IBM should have tried to get a great version of Linux out there (like Ubuntu Netbook Remix), but people wanted XP...even though the layout of XP isn't the best for netbooks. :(
I can't wait to get my hands on a T91 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T91_assault_rifle
to a T101 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminator_(character)
whats the price tag on this?
Asus is absolutely going the right way with this. Tablets have been around for years, but haven't really gone mainstream because people don't really see the point. The iphone (and DS I suppose), however, showed the average Joe just how fun and useful a well-implemented touch interface can be. Combine that iphone-like ease of use and "fun factor" with the capability of a netbook and you have some serious potential. Add to that the gps, tv tuner, and 3g and this thing could potentially replace every gadget you own except for a phone (and perhaps even that could be replaced with voip and a bluetooth headset). The key right now is to design a good UI, and Asus knows it. Now let's just hope they pull it off for less than $400.
It's impossible to be under $400
I just hope it'll really be this smooth when the touch Eees come out later this year. Preliminary concept rendering doesn't really help consumer anymore, but it sure gets people's hope up.
Call me when it has Multi-touch + Win7.
Put Win7 on yourself and forget the call?
This is what Microsoft should have done with Windows 7
Holy crap I would buy the hell out of that if it launched at under $600.
I've heard that the entry price point should be $499 which gets me pretty excited about the t91!
I'm totally replacing my EEE 900 with this thing! This will be great for note writing in lectures
Why wasn't this all-in-one user interface here already a year ago?
Many applications have already been shown on other systems as a wow factor. Now Asus has finally put on a thinking cap and bundled the best touch and innking into one operating system. The interface is to die for, for a tablet pc. I hope I can run this on my windows vista on my X60 tablet. Do we know if the the Asus tablet pc is capacative and resistive?
The only thing missing, which is slowing being shown as a new standard is the multitouch. Would be nice for the photo app option. I do not see this demoed in this video. I also do not see the option to transfer notes to apps such as journal or Onenote. Is there an option to transfer these notes to your mobile?
Very sexeee indeed, I kinda have no need for it but want it anyways lol.
