Specs for HP's Mini 1100 pop up, ExpressCard/54 slot is a go Update: maybe not
Looks like HP's web monkeys are filling in the product pages for those unannounced Mini 1100s we spotted earlier -- spec pages for the 1133CL, 1135NR, 1140NR and 1141NR have been posted, and those rumors of an ExpressCard/54 slot are apparently true. It sounds like the 1141NR is the Vivienne Tam edition -- it comes with a "Vivienne Tam sleeve" -- but apart from that and Bluetooth in the 1135NR and 1140NR, they've all got the same 10.1-inch 1024 x 576 display, 1.6GHz Atom N270, 1GB RAM, 60GB drive, and three-cell battery. No idea why HP's got so many different confusing model numbers for what seems like the exact same product, but we're guessing we'll find out more soon -- hopefully there's a bit more sense behind this silliness than with the Eee alphabet soup.
Update: HP's told Lilliputing that the ExpressCard listing is a mistake and that the 1100s are just minor variations on the 1000s, but the entries are all still up with no changes. Guess we'll wait and see when these things go official.
[Thanks, Ricardo]

maybe they will actually get around to releasing the vga adapter sometime....
yeah still waiting on that too...
The expansion port gives you VGA out by extension, as well as four more USB ports, S-Video, Component Video, and S/PIDF.
Works absolutely perfectly for me, and there's no need to unplug your monitor/speakers/mouse/keyboard/HDD/USB hub/TV/power cable, since it's all through one single solitary cable!
So I could use this with the Mini 1100 (and the 2140)?

Assuming it's actually available for purchase.
All that bezel around the screen is just stupid. Just because these are small and light doesn't mean they need crappy screens.
3-cell! No kidding? I bet the battery will be dead before I finished and walk out the bathroom.
+1 lol, that took me a second to actually finish that thought...and then i was all like, ewww.
on a random side note, my brother's 2002 Gateway laptop says
On Battery Power: 6 minutes (68%) remaining
All of this 945/Poulsbo stuff is garbage. Atom is fantastic, but these chipsets are terrible.
That said, once Nvidia's Ion platform is available, this will all change.
if ((10" Screen + Nvidia Ion Chipset + Atom + Windows 7)
Too bad the max RAM is 1GB on all of em. I would have liked the possibility of upgrading to 2.
If I am correct, Microsoft and/or Intel have restricted netbooks to be shipped with 1gb of ram max. However, you can upgrade it to 2gb no problem.
you can upgrade the ram on most netbooks with no prob. My HP Mini has 2gb of ram
1024x576? I see...makes sense, because of all the complaining about previous netbooks having too MUCH screen real estate.
Its because now manufacturers are moving towards 16:9, primarily to save costs as you can create more 16:9 screens out of the same material as 16:10. : (
side mouse button fail
End to end screen please. Every little bit of real estate helps when you're working on such a tiny notebook.. err netbook.
probably mostly for cost, then for battery life.
and there are restrictions from Microsoft and Intel for netbooks.
The "CL" stands for club model, which will be sold at Sam's Club and Costco. "NR" models are retail ones, but one is most likely the regular retail model while others might be exclusive to certain stores like Best Buy.
THE "NR" means no rebate
Whew! Almost bought the HP Mini 1000 from Costco a week ago. I am fortunate for two things: A) They stopped carrying it B) I decided on a Mini 9.
The specs might've been okay six months ago, but it's pretty disappointing when compared with the likes of Samsung nc10 and even MSI Wind. And what's with the 4200 rpm hdd? It must take forever to boot up.
I highly doubt they will put a express 54 in the computer. even the old mini was pretty jam packed plus one reason why i have my doubts is because when the 1000 came out, it also stated it had an express slot which it didn't. Also a 54 is pretty big and even the HP DV2 doesn't have a 54, just a 32. I would like to see the following options though: 1. option for higher res screen like the 2140. 2. smart protect hard drive (anti shock feature like in the DV series and 2140) 3. Want HP to hurry up and come out with the darn display dongle and anything else that can plug in the port. 4. 6 cell battery.
Oh and though HP advertises max 1gb memory, many have upgraded to 2gb on the old 1000. I'm sure it will be the same on on the 1100. HP just won't offer it on their site so they can try to sell more of the business line.
These can only take 1.8" hard drives correct vs. 2.5" in most netbooks and also no VGA port, it requires an adapter? : (
That's pretty damn lame, at least the design looks pleasing IMO.
Who uses VGA anymore? Seriously, that's lame.
DisplayPort.
I wonder if people realised that under those bezels contains usefulness like wifi antennas and stuff...
Love how HP manages to offer an ExpressCard slot on a low-end computer, but Apple cripples its MacBook by removing FireWire and NOT offering an ExpressCard slot to make up for it.
Do these articles always have to bitch about the amount of models they make ? Asus and HP both sell laptops to nearly every country on earth all the different models are mainly regional differences and different OEM requests.
They are only annoying because Engadget keep printing them and talking about how they are "watering down" their brand.
HP is only updating the Mini Models, not making new ones
The only reason that they have so many different model numbers is for going to different places
And HP wont dilute their Mini Brand like Asus has (with a million models of the same pc). I actually work for HP (through marketing)
So comparing the specs of the 1135NR with my 1035NR, it looks like the only difference is the ExpressCard slot (Which I wish I had) and they added more HP crapware. How nice.
Have they fixed the cooling?
My 2133 has fried the MB twice. :-(
maybe.
mini 1000 & mini 2140 are already cooler than 2133.
hope the new mini 1100 could do a better job than 1000
I wonder if they put in a better webcam. I've heard the 1000's is nearly unusable.

i don't think the hp mini will be any better
