Dell's Mini 10 launching on or around February 27th?
We'd be highly skeptical of this one (in fact, we actually are highly skeptical), but we've seen a Dell rep or two speak the truth before. To that end, we figured it prudent to pass along Sir Paul Synnott's recent chat with an online Dell UK representative. Upon asking for more details on the future release of the Mini 10 netbook -- you know, that machine that was unveiled at CES and then promptly forgotten? -- he was amazingly hit back with a definitive ship date: February 27th. He was also told that the power adapter would be a "smaller one, as with the Mini 9," and that pricing was yet to be determined. We know, it reeks of fish, but the date itself doesn't sound all that outlandish. Guess we'll just have to wait and see, eh?

Bring it on.
It looks like a wallet in the picture. (so damn tired of hearing about netbooks)
Somebody run some monster screen clean on the cover...
or some free lens cleaner that you get from the eye doctor and save yourself $93903845729038457293845.00 dollars
@From My Cube
LMAO! Just be careful with comments like that, they might sue you!
I'll be waiting to see the Adamo, I think.

what is "fibre"?

Six words: Hey guys, what's going on here?
Dell may have just cost themselves some money with a 2/27 ship date. I have an Axim x51v and am eagerly awaiting news of a potential Dell phone at 3GSM next week. If they announce a phone next week, I'll wait for it's release date to purchase. If not, I'll be buying this little netbook.
I'm not a Dell fanboy, but loved my Axim. I figure that since a few years have passed, a phone which is similarly powerful with that huge screen should be slimmed down a bit (and should get a bit more powerfull too).
I'm looking forward to the Mini 10 because of the add-ons which make this a great machine for multimedia management while travelling. I'm looking forward to the possibility of installing Windows 7 on it (along with a TV tuner) and hooking it up to my hotel TV when I travel to enable DVR-ing and the use of a real guide.
*fingers crossed
Dang. I was just about to buy a Mini 9, and then I hear this. >_
Does it strike any one else that the HD 720 screen on the HP 2140 is NOT available yet; and the Dell 10, with presumably the same screen is not available yet ?
Anybody want to wager on the fact that the HP 2143 with the HD screen and the Dell 10, are released the same week ?
BOTTLENECK = Screen
is the 2143 only gonna be available thru HP Small Business?
I just tried asking the same question with a representative from Dell Canada. They insisted they didn't know anything about it.
Same...well in the UK
My transcript:
Initial Question/Comment: Why do some versions of the mini 9 come with GMA 950, but some with the GMA 500?

16:53:08 System The session has ended!
Can't they just tell us!
The Mini 9 is such a piece of junk, why would I want a Mini 10? It's slow. Unresponsive. Underpowered. The keyboard is too small. It's a huge waste of money for a small device.
Weird, I find the Mini 9 to be quite the powerhouse. The keyboard is a little cramped, yes, but I have no other complaints. Currently I have OS X installed on it, and it flies, even with Parallels 3 and XP set up on it.
Try uninstalling Bonzai Buddy and it'll run much faster, grandma.
I'm running Win 7 on a Mini 9 with 1GB and 8GB SSD and its holding up just fine. Oh, and I'm touch typing on the keyboard too, which took me roughly 2 or 3 emails to get the hang of. The mini is easily on par with the other major netbooks, and has the benefit of not looking like a cheap piece of shit like the early ASUS EEEs.
The ONLY thing I installed on my Mini 9 was Firefox. Didn't even add any extensions. I also uninstalled every application that was shipped with the machine. It's still insanely slow. My old P90 NEC laptop had better response times. I'm about to give this machine to my friend's pre schooler.
Very interested in OSx86ing a Mini 10, but the dual-core chips on the horizon are making me hold off...
"My old P90 NEC laptop had better response times."
Sure it did.
I got my Mini 9 about three months ago and I love it. I rarely ever use a desktop, I've pretty much switched completely over to this little guy.
Next thing you know, there will be a Mini 11, 13, 14 15...
Not really. Dell has a Mini 9, and Mini 12 now and will have a Mini 10 soon. 13" machines and above won't likely get the Mini moniker.
It is possible that Dell will associate the Mini product name with Atom-based machines, but I suspect that they're trying to captialize on the netbook form factor which (though Atom powered) are really just sub-full-size machines.
Thats ridiculous. A Mini 11 would be a nice addition though...
"Not really. Dell has a Mini 9, and Mini 12 now and will have a Mini 10 soon. 13" machines and above won't likely get the Mini moniker. "
Next time I'll add the [/sarcasm] tag for you..
.
Man of few words.
I'd love to have one of these Mini 10's...
Atom, 10" 16:9 HD screen, WiFi b/g/n, BT, GPS, WWAN, TV tuner, 120GB+ HDD, 1.3mp camera, 2GB RAM, Multi-touch touchpad, 6-cell battery, HDMI, 3 USB ports, 5-1 multicard reader, fuller size keyboard, 2 lbs.
Sounds like a complete winner to me. Can't wait until they arrive.
The only other thing I wish the Mini 10 had, was a fingerprint reader. That would make entering passwords much easier to deal with, not to mention having another layer of security.
Yeah a fingerprint reader would be dope. Starting to sound like the ultimate portable machine.
I think that the only feature I'll pass on is the TV Tuner.
If it launches on Feb. 27th in the UK, how long will it be until we see it here in the US?
Id really love to see this thing...... It has an impressive smooth look to it......
i would not like it if it had a white inside
I dont know if it matters, but i got an email "from Dell" saying to "Get ready for the new Mini"
Which hopefully that means a couple more weeks!
I agree the new Mini 10 sounds like a great addition. Can't tell whether I'm interested in it or not yet, given we don't know pricing (boy I bet that Aspire One 10" at $349 caused some ripples dontcha think?), we don't know battery life, we don't know if the HD monitor option will be available when it ships, etc. Just have to wait and see...
Er, I don't think the 10" Acer caused ripples .... Asus has had a the 1000HA for $349 for a few months from what I understand.
is there a netbook with a built in dvd/cd drive?
My only complaint is that the Mini 10 will use GMA 500 graphics which royally sucks for Linux users...otherwise I would be all over this. Heck, I still might.
Stephen, you cheeky bast4rd. The rep was only doing his job to help and you cut into him like that. You need your botty slapping.
I'll let my mum decide that
