HTC's Magic appears for Vodafone in Europe, G2 moniker nowhere to be found
We can already tell that this naming thing is getting out of hand, but for all intents and purposes, the handset you see above is the same HTC G2 we've seen hosted up in T-Mobile documentation and those gnarly in the wild snaps. Now, according to some very believable Vodafone snippets, we're being told that this here handset will launch exclusively on the aforesaid carrier as the Magic, bringing with it a 3.2 megapixel camera, HSPA, WiFi and GPS. Also of note, Cupcake will be loaded on from day one, though there's no word on pricing and availability just yet.

I'd perfer it if it ran iPhone OS
Die!
You can go on break.com for those juvenile comments.
obvious troll is obvious
Iphone OS looks nice and purty and oh so simple to use but i don't know, it just dumb things down. I don't think the current Iphone Os would do any good with a smartphone. But I do agree, the Iphone os looks pretty and can distract me for hours if i let it.
Stay on the Fanboy sites; O.K.?
Why wouldn't this be in the HTC press conference??
You wouldn't dare talk Android in front of Ballmer's face.
Because it would just amplified the G2's ugliness standing next to all those lovely phones.
Digg here: http://digg.com/gadgets/HTC_G2_2
Everytime I look at android it reminds me of UIQ3 on my old SE P1i
dude
this phone is HOT!
look better than the G1, that's true
EWW wtf?!
why all the buttons?! it made it look uglier!
T Mobile G1, Vodafone G2, I'm waiting for the O2 G3
Can't say it's ugly, it looks a whole lot better than the original. It actually looks rather nice, it's a similar shape to the new HTC Pro2 which I guess is based on the same platform.
still...can't stand a chance against Nokia N97. Symbian OS is more mature with...like...100 times more applications avaiable (1000 more on iPhone but that kid's toy doesn't count). Not to say it looks 10 times nicer...
I mean, why buy this in march when I can buy N97 in april? come'n you linux freaks...grow up ;P
Not a fan even compared to the G1 actually
Did the rest of my post...disappear?
you probably threw an angle bracket in there or smiley, usually cuts off the rest of the post
Wow how have I never had this happen before haha.
Thanks for the info though teej (tankt?)
Slick looking. HTC just knows how to make phones that enduce the boner.
No thanks. I'd rather wait for the Tegra Android in H2 than have this "toy" right here right now.
Even the G1 kicks its ass.
I just like that the clocks actually match...
It looks very pretty. I doubt I'll trade in my G1 for it, but maybe I'll convince my wife to trade up from her Sidekick to the G2. I like that they included the search button, I hadn't thought of that but it's definitely something worth preserving when switching to the virtual keyboard because you obviously can't just start typing on a random screen if no keyboard is visible.
Looks nothing like the HTC Magician
(old skool Windows Mobile peeps reprazent!)
Looks good but how is it better than the original G1?
I don't think it's meant as a G1 replacement, but rather to sit along side the G1 in a lineup of android devices. People who want a keyboard go for the G1, people who are fine with just screen keyboard and want something thinner go with the G2.
two things. One, does this thing finally have a 3.5mm headphone jack?
Two, what the hell is wrong with HTC? I swear they don't like android or something. Their Windows Mobile phones are some of the prettiest in the business but they run Windows mobile which I just don't enjoy using in any way. Then they have these android phones which are just ugly unergonomic messes but run one of the best OSes in the business. Why can't I have an Android Touch Pro?
Why does it take THAT long for post-G1 devices to appear?
Not crazy about this. I actually liked the G1's looks, but this looks too fat for a phone without a slide-out keyboard. Honestly, it doesn't even look as good as the tons of Windows Mobile phones out so far. Between this and LG's lacklustre Android announcement, it seems almost like these companies want Android to fail. I really want an Android phone, but since the G1 is useless in Canada and none of the upcoming alternatives look worthwhile, it looks like I might be buying another Symbian phone.
looks like ima be right, i said when we heard about the cupcake it wouldnt be released until we saw a new G device as in the G2. Now this doesnt mean this is the next G device but the G1 will be updated with cupcake so it can be like this, since it has no keyboard. its gonna be like the Zune, there just give you all the updates as they can for old devices to put them up with the new devices
It wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft is leaning on HTC and others not to talk too much about Android (lest it overshadow all the Windows Mobile 6.5 announcements). Also, I think a lot of manufacturers are not rushing into Android and are instead waiting until they can correct any flaws or bad things about the G1.
