Archos 10 netbook now available for purchase
So, the last we'd heard, Archos' 10-inch netbook was going to be available in April, but here it is -- the middle-to-beginning-of-the-end of February, and it's available to order now. If you'd forgotten, the little guy boasts a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, up to 1GB of RAM, the 10-inch screen has a 1024 x 600 resolution, and it runs Windows XP. The starting price for this one is $399.

POS. Why would I want to shed that much on a notebook when the crappy $450+ Archos 5 and 7 are even worse?
It is matter of reasoning!
Sheesh...it's a net, not note.....self-correction... :-)
yeah the netbook seems like a really poor choice for a company that makes otherwise brand recognizeable products. to do something else so generic is just weird.
Why on earth do they still sell notebooks or netbooks with only wireless b/g? Wireless n should be standard these days.
None of the 10.2" netbooks have wireless N built-in as far as I know. Which of MSI Wind, Asus Eee 1000HA or Samsung NC10 have Wireless N, I think none.
My 1000h has it. I've never used it.
yeah it is available for more money on some of the 1000 models. who cares though - I thought it wasnt used anywhere yet because of some broadcasting issues.
The 1000HE has wireless n.
alright people, you need to realize that Archos doesn't make these netbooks, its just a rebranding of a different generic brand, plus some addition software to make it worthwhile
ok then john, why do they do that? its the same shit in a different pile . . . archos slaps their name on it so they take responsibility.
make money? get a start?
they do plan on replacing it later this year with the "Archos 10S"
And how is this better than the Asus Eee 1000HA, which you can get for $50 cheaper?
It's the same. You can get this one $50 cheaper as well if you don't buy it at the official manufacturer suggested retail price. Cheap resellers always sell it $50 cheaper or up to 20% cheaper.
Also the MSI wind is going for $290 on dealnews, So $110 off
6 cell is 20$ more though
I want a 12 inch netbook and Dell is the only one's that make them.
I own an ARCHOS 605 WiFi. One reason I purchased it was its support of flash whilst internetting. It turns out flash has moved on and ARCHOS has not. I cannot access MOST of the flash content on the internet now, and despite the pleas from the many people who gave ARCHOS $$$, they have not / will not upgrade the (custom) flash player in their device.
What I'm saying here is that folks should not buy this netbook or any ARCHOS device because they do not support their customers after you give them the $$$.
Flash support is for up to Flash 9 content as long as the content does not use ActionScript 3. That is cause Adobe does not provide ActionScript 3 support for embedded devices yet.
Youtube, Dailymotion, Google Video, Blip, Myspace videos, and most other flash video sites work just fine.
I agree that the Flash support is not satisfactory. But Archos is actually using the best Adobe has to offer for mobile devices.
The Archos 605 WiFi is an awesome little product. But I agree that Archos customer service is sh*t. Therefore I would be a bit reluctant to buy an Archos branded Netbook or Notebook.
Interesting, why aren´t there more picture about the archos 10 online on their own website?
I Found some here, they are selling it germany for 329 Euros with a three cell battery.

I love the fact that the headset in and output are on the front... They also have the manual there...
Yawn
Eee 1000 has wireless N.
Up to 1GB of RAM? That's absolutley horrible. I think Archos should stick to what they do best.
can't comment on this little number - but can tell you that I took delivery of my gorgeous little Ideapad S10 - and its worth every cent.
Depends what you're using it for if netbooks is for you - - but everyday contact and web access is a breeze - its so lightweight i take it on a flight with me - plus kids and pushchair !!!! size IS everything!
Read a review here: http://www.thinkpadtoday.com/category/lenovo-ideapad-10 - for me its the only netbook worth its (light)weight in gold !
You wont convince me otherwise!
They should have spent their time fixing the 5 and 7 instead of pushing this out early.
The whole netbook genre has devolved into the category of small crappy Windows notebooks, rather than evolved internet device for work using a usable keyboard. Going back to the original netbook from Psion, it ran the wonderful EPOC OS, and they still go for a $100 more than the "upgraded" netbook Pro which ran the horrible Windows CE 4.2.
I've been bellyaching about this lack of a usable portable work device that isn't a full laptop on my blog:

Great. Another product that Archos will not provide support for!
It's made by Shenzhou Computers, which markets under the name Hasee in China. The model is Q130. Hasee is unavoidable on the Mainland for one reason: they build the cheapest laptops in China. There's also a reason they're so cheap --and it isn't because of some brilliant just-in-time manufacturing model. Ironically, the Chinese pay ridiculously high prices for laptops so this Archos is basically the same price as its POS alter ego.
TO : Charbax,
ABC, CBS, Fancast, FOX, HuLu, NBC, and South Park Studios are just a few of the web sites NOT supported by the ARCHOS flash player. Some folks might think of at least the first 6 of these as major content providers.
But you are correct, being able to watch 10 million 2 minute videos can be a good thing.
i'm just trying
ok yes
