Maingear intros Prelude 2 3D gaming system

Maingear bills itself as a fine purveyor of "high performance luxury computers," hand built machines such as the Remix workstation (for "creative professionals"), and now Prelude 2, a 3D gaming workstation that features the NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision setup, a 22-inch SyncMaster 2233RZ display, and a desktop PC rocking an Intel Core i7 processor -- all for $1,999 (though were guessing that once you start tweaking things here and there the price can rise pretty quickly). More detailed specs are sadly unavailable at the moment, but if you've been itching to jump on the 3D bandwagon (not that we approve, but whatever) this one is probably worth a look. Full release is after the break.
Update: Feel free to check out the order page over at Maingear's site for all the system's specifications and customization options.

MAINGEAR Unleashes Prelude 2 Equipped with NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision
New System Offers PC Gamers Tremendous Value with NVIDIA's Cutting-Edge GeForce 3D Vision Technology, Intel's Core i7, and Samsung 22" LCD Monitor for 1999.99
Union, New Jersey – February 18th, 2009 – MAINGEAR Computers, award-winning builders of high performance custom computers for PC gamers and enthusiasts, is proud to announce the Prelude 2, the Company's first system to incorporate NVIDIA's revolutionary GeForce 3D Vision stereoscopic 3D technology. Bundled with a 22" Samsung® SyncMaster 2233RZ display and boasting Intel's Core i7 processor, Prelude 2 offers gamers the most innovative and immersive gaming experience imaginable at a sub-$2,000 price point.
"The fact that Maingear customers will have the ability to play games in 3D stereo is just awesome," said Ujesh Desai, general manager of GPU business at NVIDIA. "NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision is taking the world by storm, and Maingear's Prelude 2 is going to deliver a mind-blowing experience."
"We're offering gamers the complete package to fully immerse themselves in the gaming arena of their choice" said Wallace Santos, CEO and Founder of MAINGEAR. "With support for some of today's hottest titles like Burnout Paradise, The Ultimate Box, or the Mirror's Edge, Prelude 2 and NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision offers an unrivaled, unique gaming experience that is a phenomenal value at under $2,000."
MAINGEAR also partnered with Elemental to offer customers the power to easily convert any video and audio file for a variety of devices with Badaboom(www.badaboomit.com). Badaboom adopts a unique approach to transcoding by using the GPU rather than the CPU which not only runs faster but also frees up the CPU to process additional tasks. This allow consumers to painlessly convert video between formats, allowing them to view home video content on their portable devices, or Media Center content on their Apple TV – all in a convenient, intuitive application. The Prelude 2 will feature the full version of the Badaboom software.
Gamers can purchase the MAINGEAR Prelude 2 at MAINGEAR's Web site www.maingear.com or order by phone at (888-MAINGEAR). The base price for Prelude with NVIDIA 3D Vision technology is $1,999.99. Prelude 2 comes with MAINGEAR's standard 14 month warranty and is backed by the best in-house support team in the country.

Finally! I've been looking for something to replace my Virtual Boy.
nothing will ever replace the virtual boy. don't even joke about that!
I'll have it. Once I have the cash, I'm ordering this desktop. Only I'll be changing the graphics card... so it'll probably reach $2,400....
Ok guys this whole 3d vision thing is bugging me. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for 3d gaming.... but stereo3d is not the answer. We need Virtual Reality to be implemented in a large scale. You dig?
Guaranteed that virtual reality is out of your price range and out of 98% of the readers price range.
Remind me not to put you in charge of a company.
Does it come with Mindsweeper?

All the details, tech specs ^^
This stuff is actually pretty nice, but really all the new computers can do it with a 120hz screen and the glasses kit (and a 9600+ video card).
I've yet to use it though so I'm kind of wondering how it is for that long durations of gaming if it doesn't hurt should be nice.
NIce, but they need to make attach flame for people who wear glasses.
Burn them all,
Yes I was wondering, how to people with prescription glasses put it on?
Maingear screwed me to the tune of 4 grands when I purchased the Remix I´m typing on less than 2 months ago.
When I received my new expensive bundle of cyber-joy , and I had the time to thoroughly examine the components , I discovered that I payed about 800$ to Maingear just for assembling the (nice) parts.
They are not gonna get my cash again any time soon.
HAHAHAHA. Your shipment of FAIL has arrived.
"Maingear screwed me to the tune of 4 grands when I purchased the Remix I´m typing on less than 2 months ago."
KilgoreTrout can't own a Remix because of several reasons.
1.) The Remix only launched officially on January 29th. Hence, customers only knew of its existence from then on.
2.) Here's a bit of MAINGEAR history, we sold the first Remix on February 2nd. There is a 3 week lead time on the Remix builds. Hence, even if this poor guy bought a Remix from us, he couldn't have even received it yet. In fact the first one is leaving this week.
3.) Disgruntled employees/fanboys/whathaveyou shouldn't try to flame a reputable company for any reason other than the truth. This isn't true, obviously, and has just been squashed. Have a nice day.
Loooking at the Specs this is worth $1000 becuase of the crappy 9800GT and Average P6T Mobo, only 3GBs of SLOW memory etc
Not worth it, not that is ever is..
