What's this, a high-end slate from
Motorola that we can all cautiously get behind? Hard as it may be to believe, it seems that Moto might be working on some serious hardware to compete with... well, anything. We don't have any information on this device we're seeing here beyond what we can make out from the picture -- 5 megapixel Kodak-branded camera, big touchscreen, TV-out, and a xenon flash -- but the tip suggests that this could be Moto's first Android device. We tend to think that's not very likely, since we don't have Home or Back buttons on the front (which would also rule out Windows Mobile 6.5 without a Start button), but we suppose they could be hiding out on the side somewhere -- and frankly, we don't see Motorola blowing anyone away with a touchscreen version of its proprietary platform any time soon. At any rate, let's just hope this shot is real, and the phone's almost ready for retail.
[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
do want
If this is running android i think moto might have a company saver with this device!
seconded. IT BETTER RUN ANDROID.
Who knew the day would come when I actually consider getting a Moto...
CNN = "in response to Motorola's rumored five megapixel handset, Samsung released 23 HD touchscreen phones running every mobile OS possible"
Be it android or not, I'd actually want to see it have the OS thats on the rokr e6,
that was a great OS...
I do, just not to my phone? I leave then on my computer or xbox and either burn it or watch it on netflix...
and you act as though you know me or something...
WTF is with this commment system>!>!> this was intended for the comment below for david chappele...
ENGADGET! USE WORDPRESS! AT LEAST THEIR COMMENT SYSTEM WORKS.
X-P
SERIOUSLY FAKE!
A combination of the Motorola E8 and the ZINE ZN5 with a little bit of the HTC Touch HD
I'm a Motofanboy.
This is photoshopped!
does disgust.
what's with the nub uptop? Huge KODAK plastered on back screams 80s.
SAdly it's FAKE: http://digg.com/gadgets/Leaked_Motorola_android_phone_is_a_FAKE
Cross your fingers it isn't fake...
looks like moto has gotten their act together
Yeah, I have a MotoQ and I don't like it one bit. I'd buy this in a second if it's real.
Doubt is fake since noone with the photoshop skills to draw this device would've put that humongous tv out cable there.
An AV out cable? Actually, an AV out would be cool, but a phone's resolution is not worth it on a TV, unless you are using a pico projector...
TV-out = WiN
A phone's resolution is worth it if it is 800x400 (Xperia/Touch HD/LG iphone), dude i am starting to think you don't even download movies?
I wonder if companies have started purposely "leaking" info like this to get some hype and viral marketing going.
Oh no, only a company with a fruity name would do that.
Wow, you guys finally found out. Apples been doing it for years.
-deliberate "leaks" to generate hype on popular blogs and websites
-paying off blogs/sites/print media to have constant articles about their products (Time magazine, anyone?)
-also at every leak, having the blog writer to be in disbelief, to catalyze user disagreement = more comments = more traffic = more hits for advertisers.
Its a fucking genius marketing plan, and its pretty much why the ipod/iphone/macs are so popular among young people.
Looks like the "iPhone 3G" from a little while back ;)
http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/02/next-gen-iphone-spotted-in-the-wild/
Looks more like the HTC Touch HD to be honest...
http://www.htc.com/europe/product/touchhd/gallery.html
why would they ever copy the iphone!? Creative ppl at moto.
Yes, you're right! The iPhone is the first touch phone ever and its THE touch phone ever!
...
Why Copy an iPhone!?? it's Simple!! when A Rat is cornered, it'll do drastic and crazy things to survive!!
yeah, the way is has a glass front, and is sort of a rounded rectangle. such a stark, innovative design. apple were total geniuses to come up with that one, its a design no one could ever have predicted...
It has all of the buttons and features to suggest that it's a Symbian phone. That seems very unlikely though, so I assume that it's running a proprietary OS.
Feature set looks pretty run-of-the-mill apart from the xenon flash. I really wish more phones has a xenon flash - it makes the world of difference to indoor shots.
Why is that unlikely?
Motorola was the second largest partner in UIQ.
Motorola's hardware has never been a problem, it's their software, whether it's their own or Verizon's awful UI. If they can get a device running Android, they'd be back in the game. It would be nice to see a US cell phone manufacturer once again creating something to be excited about.
what's so great about android? i had the G1, it was a pile of poo
Sure you did sinai. And I banged Scarlett Johansson last night
Isn't Apple now a US Cell Phone Manufacturer that has made stuff to get excited about?
Apple isn't a cell phone company. It's a consumer electronics company which happens to sell one cell phone.
Hah, you're right Robert. I totally went through the list in my mind and somehow I just glossed over Apple. Still, I'd love to see Motorola back in the big game.
In my opinion almost all touchscreen look the same with minor differences.
What really set them apart is the software. So please motorola don't bring your
shity platform to the touchscreen world if you want to compete.
you have never seen motorola EZX system, have you, it was rocking the iPhone style since before it was a twinkle in steve's eye
It needs symbian, android or windows mobile for it not to blow moto out of the water. If it has a self built OS it better be mind blowing.
Maybe LiMo?
PLEASE let it work on AT&T's 3g. PLEASE.
ATT won't Shoot themself's in the foot with this phone!! they're making Too much gravy money off of Iphone plans and sales off Dummies who like to be handcuffed to Apple.
In other words, ATT won't put two roosters in one boat.
A keyboard on this big sucker would be nice. To many companies switch to touch screens and ridding the keyboards and pads now trying to compete with iphones.... never under estimate the power of a qwerty keyboard on a phone...
You could also consider getting a touch screen phone and a Bluetooth mini keyboard... when you need keys, turn it on and type away... might give you more freedom of choise on the phone front.
Because it's so much more comfortable having to handle a blue tooth keyboard while holding your phone as well. Think of how awkward that would be. Also it's cumbersome to pull out a bluetooth keyboard when you can just slide out a keyboard.
A TS keyboard on a capacitive screen is not bad
Imagine it ppl,
A phone w/:
-a proven 5MP Cam (ZN5)
-Xenon Flash
-Android OS
-Capacitive TS
-Sexy Harware
What else could you ask for?
@ Zak
A decent price tag would be nice
seems decent...
I hope it's GSM. I'm sick of some of these half-decent looking Motos being CDMA.
I hate it when people talk like that, verizon doesnt have any good phones, and at&t have all the phones we envy. mostly the iphone.
Verizon has no good phones?
LG Dare is pretty damn nice. (my phone)
Samsung Omnia is kickass
Samsung Saga is a good global smarthphone
HTC Touch Pro speaks for itself
i'll give yout hat yeah i kinda wish iPhone was verizon, but besides (i'm sure you've read this)
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/12/16/upcoming-2009-verizon-handsets-from-motorola-pose-for-bgr/
@Zach:
The problem is that every one of those has a GSM cousin that has been on the market longer and is better.
The Storm is the only thing on Verizon thats really all theirs. I'd love to see this on Verizon assuming that it is going to stand out from the crowd.
seems cool
