ASUS slaps 1TB SSD within Lamborghini VX5 laptop
We're just now wrapping our heads around that 1TB SSD that pureSilicon launched in January, and already ASUS is looking to place us back in a state of disbelief with its newfangled Lamborghini VX5 laptop. Said machine, which is slated to debut tomorrow alongside a litany of other products here in Hannover, will sport a 1TB SSD, a Core 2 Quad CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 16-inch "Full HD" display. You'll also find a GeForce GT 130M graphics card with 1GB of GDDR3 memory, an illuminated "chiclet" style keyboard and a Blu-ray optical drive to boot. Needless to say, this one's aimed at those not fazed by stratospheric price tags, and we're saying that well before the MSRP has been made public. Call it a hunch... or just superb deductive reasoning.

zioncat @ Mar 2nd 2009 7:51PM
Holly crap 1 TB SSD how much does that cost, never mind I know I can't afford it.
Matthew C @ Mar 2nd 2009 11:44PM
You could probably get one for, I dont know, an arm and a leg and a umm... Kidney?
nicholaelaw @ Mar 3rd 2009 2:19AM
I think you'll need to sell your torso.
I'm betting a five figure price tag. It could be a brand new Civic, maybe two, who knows.
Shattered Ice @ Mar 2nd 2009 7:53PM
One drive or two. Lets face it no one can afford it.
Adam @ Mar 2nd 2009 7:54PM
Sounds like it will be a great system for those who can afford one!
Michael Hillstrom @ Mar 2nd 2009 7:55PM
The SSD itself will cost as much as 4 good laptops
Nonetheless, I love the design, it actually resembles a lamborghini on the top
Hans Gruber FTW @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:00PM

It looks like an Alienware with the non-gaudy case (Ripley)
hariss @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:21PM
Yea. I thought it was a typo in the title with asus
LloydChiro @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:01PM
I think my jaw just literally dropped. I want a 1TB SSD in my computer!
Josh Ladella @ Mar 2nd 2009 9:38PM
I'll take a TB of anything in my laptop.
kal326 @ Mar 2nd 2009 10:51PM
@Josh
Get a model with two hd bays and get 2 x 500GB spinners, save yourself thousands of dollars. Granted its not a 1TB drive, but some lappies do support raid :-)
NoAndThen @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:02PM

cory3218 @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:04PM
just give it two years, and this computer will look like crap.
Gaze @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:26PM
You'll probably never buy a laptop ever in your life.
Matthew C @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:29AM
I'll take a two year old $10,000 laptop anyday. It'd sure beat mine
ghex88 @ Mar 3rd 2009 8:12AM
You may probably also unable to get a sexy pretty girl that won't look ugly after the next two years.

Will @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:19PM
If a 256GB SSD is around $550 we can assume a 1TB drive to be around $3000 at least (price scales faster than drive capacity). I'm guessing at least a $4000 notebook.
Sachin @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:23PM
actually, if the SSD were $3000, which it very well might be, the cost with the other components would make it around $4500 at least, if not more.
Mace Moneta @ Mar 2nd 2009 10:09PM
I remember my Pentium 150MHz laptop with 80MB RAM and the 2GB HD. It cost about $5500 in 1996. That's $7400 in today's dollars.
What's with the crummy 4GB of RAM on this thing? 8GB of DDR3 costs less than $200 these days.
joe23521 @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:01AM
I have trouble believing that this will be any less than $5k. Even then, it would still be a good deal if you compare it to a similarly trimmed MacBookPro.
Uncontrol @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:24PM
i r sooooooo expensive
loosely_coupled @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:25PM
Is the SSD even any good?? I'd much rather have a fast 256GB SSD any day than a shitty 1TB one.. And unlike with harddrives, there are ENORMOUS speed and capability differences between different models..
RagnarIV @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:37PM
"According to pureSilicon's own benchmarks, the drives "approach" the maximum SATA II transfer speed of 300MB/s"
From the Engadget article about the SSD drives. I've been waiting for an SSD to max out the maximum SATA II speed for
a while.
keatonreckard @ Mar 2nd 2009 8:54PM
recession antidote right?
ill take one.
va jj @ Mar 2nd 2009 10:36PM

aj121489 @ Mar 2nd 2009 9:09PM
Holy shit that blows the Acer Ferrari laptop out of the water lol. Seriously wtf are you gonna do with 1 TB??
Game_playa @ Mar 2nd 2009 9:59PM
Is that even a question?
aj121489 @ Mar 2nd 2009 10:13PM
Yea...
Matthew C @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:29AM
tentacle pron.
And Games, Movies, Graphics, etc. For the media enthusiast, rip some Bluray's too it - at 1080p those are like 10 gigs a piece. For the professional, Edit some HD video on it - it' hold like 6 hours of raw footage.
The fact that you even had to ask means that this machine is not for you.
Patriks7 @ Mar 3rd 2009 1:23AM
I bet I would fill a TB in hours. I have an external with 300GB worth movies, then at least another 100GB of music and photos. Then add some big apps (Adobe...) that's another 100GB. We're already halfway full, and I didn't even get to the games or my files I daily use. So that's another 300GB for the games and a couple GB for my files. This leaves me with 200GB to download :p
aj121489 @ Mar 3rd 2009 9:53AM
O yea I know it's not for me I just can't imagine putting THAT much on my computer. Matthew C I thought of most of the stuff you listed but I just don't see the point of doing all that on a laptop. I would think that'd be better hooked up directly to your home entertainment system or somethin
Shank @ Mar 2nd 2009 9:10PM
hot damn,.,.Asus is clearly lambo of laptops . Blows Sony n apple out of the water!!!!!!!
Insane!!!!!it should come with 8 gb ram though.
Hamidxa @ Mar 2nd 2009 9:13PM
Sweet.
She's a beauty alright.
gonintendo @ Mar 2nd 2009 9:35PM
Wow, I still have a 250GB (that's right kids, in my time we had gigerbites!) HDD in my desktop.
Matt @ Mar 2nd 2009 9:39PM
With the tough economic times maybe a FIAT edition is more in order.
Jonyah @ Mar 2nd 2009 9:55PM
kinda of skimped on the ram given the other specs. they need to put 8gb in there, then they can truthfully say it's fully loaded.
Adam @ Mar 2nd 2009 10:08PM
gotta start at atleast 3grand
joe23521 @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:07AM
3 grand will probably get you the hood.
Brianyman @ Mar 2nd 2009 10:20PM
chillax asus, your progress is way too fast
rBoLt @ Mar 2nd 2009 11:11PM
asus! eat my shorts!
Bakkoda @ Mar 2nd 2009 11:16PM
this is why there is a black market for children.
Crockett and Tubbs @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:04AM
You'll need that 1TB drive to install Adobe 11 and Windows 9. Use your 100 GB thumbdrive for all your real apps.
A.C.E.R. @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:28AM
I have Illustrator and Photoshop CS4 extended installed right now and it's about 1GB total.
At least my 30GB of WPA hash tables would barely make a dent...
yG @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:34AM
Which graphics card is better, the GeForce 9800 GX2 or the GT 130M?
Eli G @ Mar 3rd 2009 1:02AM
And the battery life would be...?
kkl1014 @ Mar 3rd 2009 1:31AM
Who cares? A laptop this powerful should be plugged in to get the most benefit anyway. This wasn't designed to be a carry-around-all-day notebook.
