Bang & Olufsen's 103-inch BeoVision 4-103 plasma is gorgeous, pricey
Plasma's dying, huh? Go and tell that to Bang & Olufsen. Just in case the 50- and 65-inch versions of the BeoVision 4 HDTV weren't expansive enough, the high-end home cinema outfitter has just pushed out news of an all new addition: the 103-inch BeoVision 4-103. If that number immediately rings a bell, here's a cookie. The 103-inch Panasonic TH-103PF9 panel is indeed the exact one used here, but B&O has obviously spruced up the design, added an automatic rising stand and incorporated the BeoSystem 3 and the VisionClear technology that automatically adjusts colors and brightness. Oh, and it tossed in a B&O logo, which is darn near priceless. Speaking of stickers, the set should be available this July for around €100,000 ($136,220) pre-VAT. Check the demonstration vid after the break.

Considering that EU has recently announced the limits on power consumption of new TV's (
103 inch come on really that's just stupid.
BANG! That's expensive!
Am looking at my 52 inch and trying to imagine how big this thing is. Omg.
This is the future people..as tvs get more efficent, bigger displays are going to become the norm..
Would just like to add (since I worked at B&O) that when you buy this tv you have to sign a claim, saying B&O is not responsible for any damage to your floor ;) Enjoy
compared to a 52" plasma I would say 4 times bigger cause of, you know, math....
lol that costs more than eight houses in detroit right now
My 9mm ill fix that.
Crack houses are always a bargain though. Of course as the economy gets worse it might be the beginning for a crack house boom - so expect to see the prices go up on the pre bullet-distressed houses.
Consider this:
many B&O TV's motorized stand are more expansive than a Vizio TV\
(As they are optional)
And the Remote Beo 4(not even the more expensive one on the video)
cost more than an iPhone(consider subsidized)
Engadget, you should totally give one of those away.
And by away i mean to me.
:D
Why pay a 100k for and 103 ich Plasma that is just going to burn-out anyway. Just go an buy an projector and the screen, an hey 3D movies will come to life on an projector screen. What they didn't is do you buy the house or the TV.
You miss the point.
B&O is meant for people who buy electronics for show and not because it's a great buy for the price.
The B&O store here in Houston, TX installs lots of their highest end systems for the rich in Mexico, Central America, and South America.
Just to say you have a 100-inch plasma to your friends is worth it for the buyers of these products.
B&O does a great job of catering to whims of people who want to buy extremely high end.
Agreed, I'm very good friends with a fairly wealthy man from church. He's spent nearly the same amount building himself a Theater for his home two years ago. The man has a 100+ inch projector and screen at 1080p res and 7.2(Yes he's two basses) in wall surround sound speakers, surrounding his four lazyboy like chairs, followed by four much more comfy heated seats. To control this beast of a system there is a tablet like remote that can turn on/off his entertainment system, wii, ps3, and xbox 360.
I love this man's house :)
B.O. also stands for body odor, which makes me wonder why would they put those letters on a high end TV.
I have a 120" 1080p projector with 5.2 sound, and it is great. Although I need to watch it in the dark and I have to worry about light reflections making the blacks and dark colors lighter. My projector's pixels are blended better then this though, so I can watch it from 6 feet away and see no lines, but this TV wouldn't be able to do that. And at 1080p @103", those would be some big pixels.
With this TV, I'm not sure why they have it on the ground...that would hurt your neck after a while to watch it.
@GodCentMe : So your pastor is living large. Typical!
He never said it was his pastor. In fact I'm 99.99% sure it wasn't.
Typical? I don't know how many pastors you've met but most of the ones I've seen are barely making ends meet. The most I've ever seen a pastor that I've met make is $40,000 a year.
There's a huge difference between a televangelist and a pastor. There's maybe 12 televangelists out there to the millions and millions of clergymen out there, so I would say no that's not typical.
If you don't believe me go to pretty much any church in your local area and talk to the preacher for a while. Follow him home to see how he actually lives.
Well I know what I would buy if I had an AIG Bonus :p
u would have needed to get more than 1M... bam, owned by 90% tax!
OK,
lets try this again (used html coding by accident):
Considering that EU has recently announced the limits on power consumption of new TV's (less then 100W while in operation) this baby will not have a bright future on its home turf. Middle east and India / China are however a totally different story altogether.
Make sure to get a gigantic privacy filter for this one.
let's see if they try to blend that
So if I'm not mistaken, this thing adjusts to the height and viewing angle of the remote? Wow, only in America can we sell a TV so expensive and with such ridiculous features that maybe 500 people can afford to buy it at most.
B&O is a European brand.
It's danish to be exact.
Sell is the key term here, not engineer or manufacture.
It's a Panasonic panel in a new skin. :)
Like almost all plasma's now.
"This is the new shit, just like the old shit"
exactly , and i prefer to spend half of the money and get the same tv from panasonic.
Can we make "Continue reading..." "Video after the break" or something? I hate clicking "Continue reading..." just to see a video clip...
...
What?
watch video != read text
I can read text in class and at work but I can't watch a video... the "Continue reading..." gives me false hope sometimes...
As usual a psycho price tag is attached to any B&O brand........
That room looks like an acoustics nightmare. Add the glare from the window and it seems like an awful waste.
Is it quad HD resoluton like most TVs over 70"?
I'll have three, thank you.
And by three I meant Z4's.
So pricey that you'll have to use old furniture your dad's thought was the rage when they bought it on the 70's and shit from old-school sci-fi series nobody wanted. Not to mention, you cannot afford painting the walls, or building them from anything better than concrete.
Are you actually serious? People pay top dollar for places and designs like that. The 50's, 60's and 70's decor and styling are coming back and fast. Have a look around, or are you one of those poor saps that has some weird country or hodgepodge one of everything schemes? Ugh. No thanks!
Less is MORE these days.
So by "Can't afford anything better than concrete" you mean that concrete is a cheap and low quality building material?
Sorry for nit-picking (or what it's called), but no matter what color the water is in your world you should stop drinking it :D
It's funny, those speakers cost only 4k dollars less than the tv... Who the hell would spend that kind of money on speakers that look like a Dalek from Doctor Who?
Sorry, 22k for the pair, my bad... Still, way too pricey...
Yes the speakers look a little odd, but have you heard them? My buddy and I were installers for B&O of S.F. They make it sound as if your hearing a live performance. B&O's sound quality is top notch. There are better systems, but a lot of the people who purchased multiple components 1. Had the money 2. really liked the aluminum design 3. liked showing their systems off 4. Usually weren't very A/V savvy.
Props on the Dalek comment. Ex-terrr-minaate!! Ex-terrr-minaate!!
If money didn't matter, who wouldn't want this??! They are either clueless or brilliantly tuned into their customer base and have the balls to deliver something this audcious in today's market. Either way its completely awesome.
If only I had tons of money lying around....
Another great one by B&O. No, really! How many manufacturers/brands you know upped their prices in this seriously trying times? If I ever needed a TV that size, I probably build myself mini-cinema at home. It doesn't cost that much more.
wow i wish engadget had a giveaway like that living room setup!
I'd rather just get a projector instead. This thing does look neat. Wonder how much the bulb costs to replace. Its more expensive than my house!
Sweet. As "nuff respec" mentioned, they have to be very well connected to their customer base to attempt this today.
We here at Engadget didn't want to stand helplessly by, announcing every new round of misery without giving anything back -- so we decided to take the opportunity to spread a little positivity. We'll be handing out a new gadget every day (except for weekends) to lucky readers until we run out of stuff / companies stop sending things. Today we've got 10(ten) the 103 inch Bang & Olufsen BEOVISION 4 - 103 on offer, ready to take you (and your mind) to a dimension rarely seen ....
Cool stuff, but as someone noted above, there is only concrete, glass and hardwood floors -- why spend $90K on speakers for a room that has the acoustics of a raquetball court?
crazyy $$$$
I wanted to write something about how ridiculously expensive it is, but it's just so... sexy.
Oh yeah - I'd take mine Ali G style, with a gold base & bezel and the TV speaker in the shape of Africa. boo-yashakka - wikkid!
B&O products are always gorgeous with gorgeous prices....
Because I always like the Bang for my money and sometimes Olufsen's it while I'm at it.
so if you can afford this, wouldn't you think you could afford a piece of furniture to put it on as well?
Forget about the TV..... does anyone know where I can get those stone gray walls? lol
to get one of those stone walls , you probably need to have the money to get this tv..
those walls are really expensive.
The beolab5 speakers are pretty reasonable for what they do, im guessing B&O figured someone who pays for the extra fidelity on the sound side will probably consider paying the extra for having a matching TV-set.
Seeing what the B&O ICE-modules go for in other appliances unchanged thats what i would compare this TV with.
bought.
hopefully B&Os video quality is better than their shoddy sound quality.
Just get the Panasonic version. It's the same damn thing.
Something tells me that if you can afford an $80,000 TV, you can probably afford a $130,000 one too. The Panasonic is not exactly a sensible choice by comparison.
Oddly enough, I've read those speakers are quite a value. There are $100 K speakers out there that don't match the quality. The cost isn't what kinda bothers me. What I don't like about that press image is that there are 6 Beolab 5's there. With 2500 watts of power each, that adds up to 15,000 watts of power for your audio in the living room. Thats not including the center channel that pops out with the fun t.v. stand.
I guess with a 103" t.v., you gotta match the excess with similar excess?
J.
p.s. Some IMAX theaters don't have 15,000 Watts of sound. The average movie theater has what? 3000 watts?
