Take it for what it's worth, but
Smarthouse has it on authority that Sony Computer Entertainment is gearing up to make a worldwide announcement tomorrow, and believe it or not, it could involve the
PlayStation 3. Analysts (and patient consumers) have been
anticipating a PS3 price drop ever since, oh, December 26th of last year, but we've seen absolutely
zero evidence to make us believe that one is coming within the next 24 hours. And as
Joystiq points out, each Sony region sets its own PS3 price independently. At any rate, we reckon a joint PS2 / PS3
price slashing could be on the table, but we'd highly recommend not getting your hopes up too high. Who knows -- we could be getting all worked up over a new firmware that unlocks
HD DVD support.

Yea, but GT prologue is a POS. The tracks are not that great and they haven't even added any for download. It shows how good the next GT game might be but where the well is the game???? Does it really take 4+ years of development?
I also think PGR4 looks way better graphics wise and begins to highlight how not great the PS3 graphics are. We were promised way better graphics and a better CELL chip, to this date I don't see it. The 360 has many more games with better rez(AA and all included). The lack of many in depth games, sub par graphics in many games, and the late release of 3rd party titles makes me think the CELL was a bad gamble for them.
IDK why people are hoping on a slim PS3 when the system doesnt even have 3 yrs out.. If you look at past history they slimmed both PS1 & PS2 around the 5yr mark.. There's already evidence that the $50 price drop for the PS2. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/29/rumor-ps2-dropping-to-100-around-april-5/ I say that they'll announce a $50 price drop across the board on all systems. PSP, PS2 and PS3.
I really dont think that Sony can do a $100 dollar price cut with how everything is going right know but how knows..
PS2 for $99. I thought this was already common knowledge on the interblogs.
$40 at your local games shop second hand.
Price drop = new console for me!
More than likely, they're going to remove PS1 emulation to justify selling more PS1s.... j/k
Playstation Two Portable with full PSone and PSP compatibility utilizing Digital Downloads for PSONE, PSP and all PS2 titles, it will have an advanced Remote Play Feature with the PS3 allowing you to play all your content abd PS3 Games either disc or store download on the go. That's what I think they are going to announce. It's what I Hope they announce tomorrow.
1. PS2 dropping to $99
2. PS3 Games coming this year. (Hopefully God of War 3 is in that list)
3. New PS3 or PSP colors
-Speculating..
4. PS3 Dropping to $349
5. Netflix for the PS3
6. Limited Edition Unicorn PS3 Edition
Unicorns? This isn't the Obama administration.
I'm betting on a price drop for the PS3 since I just bought one a couple months ago. It's my lot in life to buy a product and almost immediately watch the price drop on it. So all you people who waited till the price drops on the PS3 to buy one, you can thank me..... :-/
The whole "HD DVD compatibility" via firmware upgrade thing is a joke guys... relax.
It'll certainly be about the PS2 drop... hopefully a PS3 drop as well. Game related "big news" will be left for E3...
My guess is some sort of "Buy a Bravia, get a PS3" combo deal :) But then again I've always been an optimist.
best buy ran that promotion for almost two months back in 2007....
I was tempted, then I remembered that my pioneer elite kicks much ass and all i'd need was a ps3.
though i wish i had a launch 60gb, that'd be sickk
as for hd dvd support, it's quite impossible, but i wouldn't say no....i mean who here is honestly against extra features for no good reason?
and as for a slim ps3, it's not a portable gaming system....does it matter?
I bet it's a price cut $50 or maybe even $100 or maybe the psp2? If they drop the price I'll buy one
They're going to offer the PS3 in white - in the hopes people will buy it thinking it's a 360.
The joke is on them when it still works 3 months later!
PSP 2 Phone to compete against the iPhone. Sony is concerned about the iPhone as a portable gaming platform encroaching on the PSPs turf. Watch...
maybe if the iphonepodtouch played games ;)
Bought a open box unit for $250 - best money i've ever spent, blu-ray is awesome (movies in 1080i), i didn't own a ps2 so there is no need for the backward compatibility.
I was going back and forth on 360 and ps3 but i realized PS3 is the console of the future (newer hardware, everything is built in wireless, blu-ray etc, online is free)
They just need to get the games that use the hardware potential - and netflix would be nice too.
Waiting for a price drop is like waiting for a new version on a computer... if you need it now get it... if you can wait, wait... but you might be waiting for a long time.
HD DVD firmware is impossible. The lasers are different wavelengths. Hardware, not software.
if they drop the price I might actually consider buying one...
If they were smart they would announce a new cracked firmware for their Bluray drive. While this move would obviously increase software piracy it would have a huge increase in hardware unit sales which would increase their market share against the 360. Nobody wants to admit it but the 360 with its firmware has increased sales across the board. It is the "dirty secret" of the console wars.
As pretty much everyone else has already written, My hope would be for a PS3 price drop. I have already bought Two games and I have yet to purchase the system.
As for the Slim PS3, I don't really care and I doubt Sony really cares, if they did consumers would have the opportunity to buy the PS3 in the DEV kit format, nice, flat and square. It would then fit in racks along with other home theater items. Please remember Sony "our game systems stay stationary, removing the need for aerodynamic design. make it pretty on the TV not on the shelf"
I understand that the 45nm transition could start at any time, others have said that people won't know what this means, What is means is it's a good time to slap a "green" sticker on the front. the estimated power usage for the 45nm should be about 80 watts that is a whole lot less then the 200+ the launch PS3 used.
Actually it's an announcement about Home not sucking so hard anymore. Everyone back to work.
I just want it in a plain AV component box with little round gold feet, and a RAM upgrade path if I so choose to run Linux on the box.
God I wish it's a PSP2 announcement...
this is my imagination even though it wont happen.
maybe that they will allow to download and burn ps3 games for free with heavy advertising during load times, that would be awsome!!!
The matte-gray on that PS3 just doesn't have the same visual impact as the chrome trim on my 60GB model...
Bankruptcy? End of business? Shut down the store on June 30? You guys are asking for price cuts and the company is bleeding money. Really?
A PS3 version of Everquest, perhaps? It is EQ's tenth anniversary...
