Verizon's subsidized HP Mini 1000 leaks out
Hey, look at that -- Verizon employee training materials that prominently feature the HP Mini 1000. That's exactly what we predicted after we heard the two companies were talking about offering subsidized 3G laptops last month, and while we won't congratulate ourselves too much, well, we told you so. Sadly, there's no pricing on these slides, but we'll go out on a limb and say it won't blow minds when it's finally released. Hit the read link to check out the rest.

Ooh, impressive, apparently that "Sony P" comes with Windows Visa... I wonder if you can get it with Windows Mastercard as well.
Air Miles FTW!
What is the world coming to when only two other people have picked up on that by now? Where are the trolls and the flames?!
afternoon, engadget :)
I got my mom an hp mini today. real rap. ima surprise her with it :)
Oh great - a laptop that I don't want or need.
How about you clean up & move out of my basement, you bum?
OMG i got fans already?! listen. if you got nothing better to do than create accounts just to try n look cool id say -you're- the one living in the basement. cuz skyblaze doesnt play that shit. hes the sexy male anime mascot for engadget, dont hate. :)
ps. she loves it :)
So, first we have provider-locked cellphones, now provider-locked netbooks. And I guess this will have 5GB cap, with TOS prohibiting anything other than text email and text browsing. Yet another step backward.
$1539.99 isn't bad for 1G memory, 1.6 processor, 160gb harddrive and an 8.9" screen. at&t ftw!!!!!!!
1539.75 PLUS tax for a Aspire... WTH!!!!
I wonder if you already have a plan with Verizon and your contract is up - can you re-sign your contract and get this subsidized laptop? I've been looking for a small laptop alternative and if I'm already going to be using Verizon's cell phone service I might as well get a cheap 'netbook' out of it.
Not so fast! You'll be paying $50 for your cell bill every month, and another $50 for your netbook internet bill every month. You're looking at at least $100 a month.
Don't do it unless you REALLY need to have the webs with you everywhere you go and you can make money with it.
You will be much better off getting a new USB760 card from Verizon so you can use it in any computer. Once you get the embedded card in the netbook, you will be stuck with only using your account on the netbook. If you do not like the small computer and want to get a larger one some day, you are screwed because you will have to purchase another data card from Verizon. Remember, each data card with any of these carriers are $59.99 per month and there is no family plan for multiple purchases.
You will be better off purchasing the netbook at Costco for $279.99-$299.99 (comes with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty if you get the Aspire One) and a data card from Verizon for $49.99-$79.99 and you will get a $50 rebate making the card either free or $29.99.
I have been using my Aspire One for the past six months and let me tell you, with the small display and keyboard, you are going to want to get a larger laptop or desktop as your primary computer. I would not want to have my data card embedded into my Aspire One because that would be the only computer I could use online.
Now calm down, he's just trying to be nice. You know that he loves you don't you? :P
That'd be funny if it was properly replied.
Maybe you should take your own advice
actually the laptops arent locked to one carrier, with the new gobi chip they work on all carriers.
Does Verizon bother to check any facts it publishes internally? The mini 12 ships with Vista, not XP.
A quick look at Dell's website says otherwise:
Inspiron Mini 12
Featuring Genuine Windows XP Home Edition! Extra Battery Life!
Starting Price $464
Instant Savings $15
Subtotal $449
And you thought your Verizon PHONE was loaded with crapware!
So does that mean that if you lose your netbook or it gets stolen and you report it, does Windows XP stop logging in for one to use the computer?
where do we go to buy this $199 hp?
