Acer's Aspire One 751 netbook gets officially pictured
This one's been in the oven for some time, but at long last, we're finally able to see official images of the 11.6-inch Aspire One netbook that we first heard about in early March. Obviously aimed at the likes of Dell's Mini 12, this larger-than-usual netbook still packs the all-too-familiar suite of "netbook internals," but that doesn't mean it can't look pretty being average. The relocated VGA port is sure to become this unit's signature (or... something), right beside the sleek overall appearance and nicely spaced keyboard. If we didn't know any better, we'd say we see a little X-Slim in here -- right? One more look after the break, or you can opt for a boatload down in the read link.

this is the FIRST acer article i read
Your douchey comment is a DIME A DOZEN.
You pay for comments?
Anyone got any clue on a price yet?
Acer should create and luxury brand that doesn't use it's name for the non-crap that it makes
in comparison the Samsung N20 and Dell mini 12 got nothing on this, Dell should consider refreshing the 12, even their own mini 10 has a higher resolution screen, more harddrive space, and a larger keyboard...
Not accurate.
The mini12 has a 1280X800 screen, the mini 10 does not.
no, the mini 10 has a 1366 X 768.
Hmm, great for ACER luv that keyboard :D
meh
I like it , acer really does style well, they just need better netbook specs
With an 11.6" widescreen, it looks like Acer's put a full size keyboard on that machine, which might just make it the perfect form factor - being as small as possible while still having normal input.
Being as I'm a Mac person (not intending to start anything), I would love for Apple to make a device this size to replace my elderly 12" PowerBook... and if not Apple, then I hope that Acer's (or whomever else makes a machine in this size) picks the right hardware to make this an easy Hackintosh...
It looks pretty nice. What are the specs again?
I'll wager a guess, Atom 1.6GHz, 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM, Windows XP Home. To get the cheap XP license manufacturers have to keep the specs to a minimum. Even if they could use more powerful components there's not much out there anyway.
I think this may be my first netbook! Gadget boy that I am, I have resisted so far as they have all looked crap. This one seems to be very nice :) would be nice to get osx on it too, but Windows 7 will suffice ;)
Like many, I used to not have a very positive view of Acer, having the impression they made mediocre at best products. But recently, it seems they have improved a lot in design at least and I find this netbook to be one of the most impressive. It is also impressive Acer has the most marketshare in netbooks, despite Asus creating the market and having a lead over it. Go Acer!
I agree! This is looking much nicer than many other netbooks they have made. This could be the netbook i've been looking for to become my poor man ultraportable with at least 6+ hours of batt life.
They might not be as sturdy as some other brands, but their value is usually unbeatable.
@aliasfox
I agree, it would have been a perfect hackintosh if it wasn't for it using the Poulsbo chipset. And let me tell you, you ain't getting nowhere with Poulsbo and OS X..
Or Linux for that matter =(
but for those using Windows and Linux, its a better chipset than what the average netbook uses
why is there only one touchpad button?
The Aspire One 751 is now due to launch sometime in May, with prices starting at the equivalent of $518.
I'd say the cutoff point for a netbook is 10" (and even that is getting kinda BIG).... At 12", it's definitely a laptop...
The difference between the two is similar to the difference between a fruit and a vegetable, but nonetheless the line has to be drawn somewhere..
You are SOOOOOOO correct. TEN INCH and under are Netbooks
Therefore, on this day, May 4th , 2009 we declare that:
1.) The world-wide standard in defining Netbooks & Laptops is as follows
A. If you own or manufacture a device that exceeds 10 inches , it is officially a Laptop
B. If you own or manufacture a device that is 10 inches or less , it is officially a Netbook.
This official mandate will remain in effect until May 1st , 2020.
Regardless of the guts, netbooks are becoming very sexy these days. I'm glad I waited.
the keyboard looks good.
Unlike you.
Looks really good!
But why not go for the new intel CULV series?
Main reason is it would be much more expensive.
There's too many of these things on the market, it has become too much of a pain to keep track of what's what and what to buy, and keep track if within the week that you buy it a better one will be released that is basically the same but with a better .
.. better whatever is annoying on the previous one
Er, this has been the nature personal computer market for the last 30 years. Just take a punt and be happy that whatever you get meets your needs for the next 3 years. However, if you're not sure about these netbooks, chances are you don't need one.
Well sure computers get updated a lot, but netbooks is actually weekly, not just proverbially, and with changes that are often only minor like a new keyboard..
As for needing it, I'm not sure anybody ever really needs a netbook, a computer sure, and a notebook yeah, but a netbook? That's why they change more than usual, it's a fashion/fun item more than something you ever 'need'.
At least that's my take on it.
