Hold the phone: T-Mobile G1 v2 to really be the Samsung Bigfoot?
Well well -- it looks like whatever Android handset Motorola's cooking up might not be the T-Mobile G1 v2 after all. Mobile-review just published this shot of a Samsung Bigfoot with a slider QWERTY keyboard, and we've got to say, it looks a hell of a lot more like the device in that leaked T-Mobile roadmap than that rendered Moto unit. (It also looks a lot like the Samsung Beat DJ, but that's neither here nor there.) Not only that, but there's also an early spec sheet and another image of a candybar set called the Spica -- apart from the slider, Bigfoot and Spica are nearly identical lower-end versions of the I7500, with three-inch screens, three megapixel cameras, and Android 2.0 "Donut" preloaded. That certainly throws a monkey wrench into what we had thought was a neatly-tied little bow, but we've got to say we're stoked to see so many Android sets appearing all at once. Now if someone could just tell us when and where these would ship, we'd be all set. Spec sheet after the break.

I was drooling over 1.5 pre-release, now i am salivating over what Google has in mind for 2.0 Donut.

As a former user of a T-Mobile Wing, let me tell you, not having a number row on the keyboard is inconvenient and uncomfortable. No sale.
john @ May 11th 2009 8:40PM
Yup. I didn't have the wing, but I've had a couple of qwerty devices without dedicated number rows. Not interested in doing that again.
5 row physical keyboard, or no interest.
fatfishy @ May 12th 2009 11:00AM
I think I'd much rather have a symbol row and keep the fn - numpad. Dialing along a number row doesn't work too hot.
B3astofthe3ast @ May 11th 2009 6:53PM
Donut??!! Whats with the sweet goods, google?
vitriolix @ May 11th 2009 8:07PM
Very nice, things are definitely going the right direction for Android now.
BTW, just saw on the android discuss list the Donut may or may not be 2.0. It may just be a 1.6 release with some bug fixes and polish. Basically its just the development branch for the next version bump, whatever they decide that bump should be.

Well, I'll admit the Bigfoot looks a WHOLE lot better up close and personal.... but I think I like the Motorola's Android design better....
Setnev @ May 11th 2009 9:09PM
After seeing the specs of the i7500, it's clear i will have a tough decision between the G2/myTouch/Whatever and the i7500/Houdini. Either way, I am not too fond of this design of the G1v2. I like the Motorola mockup better.
tande @ May 11th 2009 11:08PM
Well this and the moto phone are two different things.
Wait for the moto one if you are so interested.

Bring on the G3.

Icello @ May 11th 2009 9:06PM
Donut? Nice. Personally I think Moto sounds better though. And I wonder what donut will actually be.
TheGM @ May 11th 2009 8:16PM
2.5 or 3.0 will be Brownie. I'll call it know. Have no idea after that, but that Android droid is going to need some exercise.
asurroca @ May 11th 2009 8:25PM
If Android 1.5 is Cupcake, and 2.0 is Donut, can we assume 2.5 will be called Eclair?
DirtyVegas @ May 11th 2009 8:28PM
Of course, you guys could wait a bit before running with it.
Dave @ May 12th 2009 12:10AM
I think google purposely names the updates after food items just to see how Engadget will photoshop their android logo into it.
Phineas J. Whoopie @ May 11th 2009 8:59PM
Why can't they just list the actual resolution, instead of these nebulous acronyms that can mean multiple things depending on the aspect ratio?
So, apparently WQVGA is even lower res than HVGA.
Why can't they just stick a Tegra processor into the Xperia frame and load it with Android?
kingrah09 @ May 11th 2009 10:16PM
i was dissapointed when i saw USB 2.0, I WANT 3 ALREADY!!!
JayBachatero @ May 11th 2009 11:50PM
I'm I the only one that thinks that this phone is fugly? Seems like I'll have to stick with my G1 for a while.
PhotoGuru @ May 11th 2009 11:53PM
cool- can't wait for the Samsung imusic store, their 10,000 apps, Google maps, mp3 player, photos, calendar....wait, it's been done....in 2007.
matt @ May 12th 2009 4:11AM
I wonder who you are?
iDavey @ May 12th 2009 7:52AM
Yeah...like on every WinMo/S60/RIM device before this =\
I hope you weren't REALLY trying to make a point...

it's shank/guru again. Ignore it.
PhotoGuru @ May 12th 2009 1:11PM
phoenix needs to rise and bump his head again.
I'm not a mole or some apple-crazed fanatic, but the phones pre-2007 (as far as MP3, email, SMS, etc) sucked. great phones if you lived in Japan- but the US had little to offer- now, everyone's jumped on board.
and everyone wants to knock the iPhone off the top- the proof is that every company compares their new device against the iPhone.
xconan @ May 12th 2009 12:26AM
this looks like an updated fic freerunner...

WTF????????????????????
Phoenix @ May 12th 2009 1:00PM
it's beside the earpiece and it turns off the screen sensitivity when it's held to your ear to ensure you don't press stuff with your face.
William Su @ May 13th 2009 5:12PM
i actually think it looks cool especilly the bigfoot
noah @ May 12th 2009 5:12AM
hasn't it been confirmed that the magic/mytouch/saffire/whatever is NOT going to be called the g2? however there is still a slot on tmobile roadmap for the g2.... maybe that unnamed "moto" (totally not convinced it's a moto yet) slider might be the g2???
singj40 @ May 12th 2009 7:48AM
Samsung phones are nice.
