Lenovo gets official with mildly refreshed IdeaPad S10-2 netbook
Lenovo's S10 has walked a long, rough road. First it battled months of delays, then hordes of anxious owners began weeping rivers due to incessant fan noise. Lenovo already made a few attempts to better its cute-as-a-button netbook, but now it's ditching the little-by-little approach entirely and introducing a 'Part II' version. The understandably titled S10-2, which we spotted via a handy user manual just last week, is officially official, and while it's still rocking the same basic specs (1.6GHz Atom N270, 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, WiFi, 1.3 megapixel camera, etc.), there have been a few appreciated tweaks made. There's a new cover design, a larger keyboard, a bigger trackpad and a model with integrated 3G that'll run just $50 more than the standard $349.99 flavors; too bad Lenovo didn't take this opportunity to dish out an entirely new IdeaPad with a CPU that's marginally robust.

More choices in netbooks like we don't have enough already, give a 10 inch 1gb 6cell battery ( atom of course) sub $300, now we talkin'.
From this point forward any netbook maker that releases the same netbook with almost the same specs deserves a punch in the face
Make it $149 and I'll shake their hand.
A punch in the face, or the lack of an engadget post. Same impact.
whats the resolution on this thing?
This'll be the usual 1024x600. I wish they'd really freshened up the design AND kept the ExpressCard slot. That's the only thing that really differentiated the S10 from other netbooks. Well, that and the fan noise / heat output.
My guess is 1024x576 like the s10e since it seems to have the same 10.1" screen.
the older s10 had a 10.2" screen that was 1024x600
the s10e has a 10.1" screen and is 1024x576
I own the first model, hate the resolution. Too low for my taste, too much scrolling up-down, left-right. I wish they would have included the option for higher resolution as well. Damn Lenovo!
How cool. Now the nice-looking lenovo option is just a generic-looking lenovo option ...
Still waiting for something with a trackpoint, lenovo.

I am a proud owner of the original S10, and I can say that I love it. I think it is a great little computer. The S10-2 doesn't offer a whole lot in the sense of more options. I do like the idea of 3 USB ports rather than the 2 that the S10 had (my only complaint), but the loss of the express card slot I feel doesn't help Lenovo's netbook stand out the way the S10 did. I hope to see further S10 models in the future as well, after the S10-2 has had its run (S10-3 maybe?).
I wonder if the noisy fan issues are fixed in this model?
lenovo is getting a bit glossy here..
garbage
The user manual lists SSD options, but no mention of those SSDs in the press release...
What did they mean by a more robust CPU? Is the n280 better or what's coming up that is going to knock our socks off?
Hands-on!

Models offering 3G HSPA, EVDO and WiMAX all seem to be planned, all with DDR2 RAM (likely 1GB as standard) and a 10.1-inch WSVGA display. Storage ranges from 2.5-inch SATA 160, 250 or 360GB drives, to 8, 16 or 32GB of SSD. The webcam is either VGA or 1.3-megapixel resolution, and there’s a choice of two batteries: a 48Wh 6-cell pack, or a smaller 28Wh 3-cell pack.
Connectivity includes three USB 2.0 ports, a 4-in-1 memory card reader, VGA output, audio in/out and ethernet. There’s also WiFi and optional Bluetooth, with a hardware switch to turn it on or off. No word on when we can expect to see the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2, nor pricing.
No mention of release date?
What's up with the keyboard? Did you notice how much it's lifted up in photo #3? (right edge) I hope that's not a sign of the build quality for all of them...
