Slimmer PS3 in store at E3?
Rumors of some sort of Sony announcement at E3 have been floating around for a couple weeks now, and it certainly seems like something's afoot -- hot on the heels of that officially non-existent white US DualShock 3 appearing this morning, we're hearing that a revised PS3 is in the works. It's not clear exactly what's going down, but the hot whispers right now say that it's the long-rumored slimmed-down redesign of the current console, not just a color change or storage bump. That makes a certain amount of sense, given the endless chatter of a price cut and Sir Howard Stringer's recent comments about the system being too expensive -- a trimmed-up redesign is right on schedule with those smaller Cell and RSX chips, and it could still possibly include some of that rumored motion-sensing hardware while driving down costs. On the other hand, after all this speculation and hype it would be a total Sony move to just pump out the same machine in a different color with maybe a new pack-in game, so we're not holding our breath. Let's say we're, oh, "cautiously optimistic." That work for you?
Update: Sony UK is currently denying the rumor with a curt "We currently don't have any plans for a redesigned PS3 at this time." Okay -- but what else would you expect them to say?

Only if sony could produce these sexy renders of the system the first time around...
It looks like a Wii with a large motherboard attached. No?
wow i totally didn't expect a PS3 slim, after they had a PS2 slim and a PSP slim.
at least this means a price cut for the fat ones, yea?
is it just me or does it look like someone strapped a wii onto a big ps3 cutout and called it a day?
Forget the PS3, I want a slimmer Xbox 360. I just hate the design of that system. I refuse to buy one as it is. Games be damned!
Hurry up and make it $200 so my cheap a$$ can buy one.
Thanks.
Howard can go suck a fat one, where the hell was he all this years when people where complaining about the price? Oh yeah, "people will line up to buy it".
And start getting some worthy exclusives, LBP is not a relevant title.
This would be okay, but its not going to happen no matter how much we talk about it. It would just be horrible judgment on Sony's part. Remember the PS2 slim. Many people bought another PS2 just because of the size. Most people don't have a PS3 at all. When the PS3 slim comes out many people will by another console. Not only that, Sony is trying to push standalone blu-ray players, If the PS3 had a slim version out tt would be the highest function, most versatile, smallest, most inexpensive blu-ray player to date thus making almost every standalone obsolete before they even started to sell. Again its great wishful thinking but too much too soon.
of course, it'd be another marketing ploy to get people to buy another one... But I'm not really bothered. If you want to buy the new one, go ahead.
Only thing that bugs me is... Doesn't it look just the the Wii?!
Do any of you actually read the previous posts? How many people do you think have said that "it looks like a wii with a PS3 top"? It's annoying...
On a more relevant note, I REALLY hope they at least drop the price a smidge. If they did redesign, would that not make the older one cheaper? I don't remember who asked earlier but it never got answered. Would that not be the case?
its half a wii
I don't see any point in doing this, but it doesn't surprise me if they will. If it boosts sales at all, it will be very little. they need to lower prices for sales to go up. So if they do release this, it will be a very bad move on Sony's part.
