Lenovo's revamped IdeaPad S10-2 gets demoed on video
You know the drill by now -- first comes the leak, then comes the announcement, then comes the photo shoot. And now, comes the video. Right on cue, the cool cats over at GottaBeMobile have whipped out the Handycam in order to show off Lenovo's latest entrant into the oversaturated netbook arena. They seemed to appreciate most every tweak applied to the S10-2, though they did lament the fact that the new kid on the block didn't have a matte display as on the original S10. The vid's just past the break.

matte displays are dying out...
are they cheaper?
I also wonder why they're dying out. I guess people get wowed by the over-saturated colors and forget about the super annoying reflections?
They really should make the screens matte. Are people really buying these machines because of how saturated the colours appear in their photos? No. It's a netbook. People use it to write emails, work with Word and Excel, post on Engadget, and watch porn.
With a reflective screen you can use a cheap shitty tft panel with a low contrast ratio, adding the reflective surface gives it a better contrast ratio.
It's sad but thats one of the reasons laptops are alot cheaper nowadays, just a shame the high price Sonys, Apples etc also use these crappy displays.
Thankfully Thinkpads are not glossy!
It was a pity when ThinkPads followed the aspect-ratio market and all went from business 4:3 to consumer widescreen. Hopefully, ThinkPads won't follow the consumer glossy-screen market in coming years...
when is the s-10 lenevo launched is it available now???
"They seemed to appreciate ALMOST every tweak..."
C'mon man, it's called proof reading.
Although generally speaking, I do quite enjoy Darren's articles. =]
"most every" is a common phrase, not a typo...
The bottom is a clean design?? Have you seen anything by Apple?
Apple have clean behinds because of your tongue obviously.
No SD card reader, either.
Seriously, why can NO ONE ever get things right? Dozens of different netbooks and each one is missing one small thing (or more) that might make it perfect.
Glossy screens should be outlawed.
"Glossy screens should be outlawed."
I concur.
Why does everyone hate on glossy screens? I've had my share of screens and laptops, glossy and matte, and I gotta tell you, I much prefer the clarity of a glossy screen over the matte glare killing. What really should be outlawed is uncoated glossy screens. Coat the sucker so it kills most of the glare, ala glasses and such.
I own the first generation Lenovo S10, and one of the main things that attracted me to it was it's upscale appearance, quality construction, and most importantly - the matte screen. This new model looks CHEAP. It looks like a clone of the Acer Aspire One, and the MSI Wind -- Rounded, Plasticky, Glossy, Playschool -- I'll be keeping and enjoying my original Lenovo S10 for a long time to come.
No SD or other flash card slot, as far as I could see - unless it's cleverly hidden and the guy in the video forgot to mention it. AND they cut out the Express card slot that was one of the S10's distinguishing features - perhaps the only one that mattered. What this thing's REALLY about is cost-cutting in the dog-eat-dog netbook market. It's not mentioned either way in the video, but I'll bet this puppy is still using Intel's antiquated and battery-chewing 945 chipset. C'mon, you greedy Intel bastids! You should have retired that puppy LAST year. Where's the GN40 chipset? Where's the Atom N280 processor? Phooey on both Intel and Lenovo for this too-little-too-late netbook.
I am using an lenovo s10-2 . Got xppro , and express editions of ms.net and sql server and am happy that it works well, infact it works slightly better than my prev laptop. So performance is pretty good. Yes the screen is small and can be bigger. I guess a 12" screen is the minimum for any m/c .
