TransferJet completes close-proximity specs, now wants members, respect
Wahey! It's been awhile since we've heard from you, TransferJet, the high-speed but low-range wireless would-be standard that promises 560Mbps over a near-adjacent range of just 3cm. Sony kicked off the initiative, but now has about 15 others playing along who have all managed to put aside their differences to finalize the specs on both the physical and connection layers. All they need now is hardware, and so starting today they're graciously asking for more members to join their consortium -- not that they would have turned you away yesterday. Still no sign of when actual devices using this technology will hit retail, but where there's a spec there's always a prototype.

What if I have OCD and don't want to get too close to stuff/people. THEN HOW WILL I TRANSFER JET?!?!?!!?!?
Chances are, if you're _that_ OCD, you probably wouldn't want stuff from other people's filthy, filthy cell phones anyway. Even if their phones are sterile clean, you wouldn't want their data anyway since it most likely is not formatted to the exact way you want it. So TransferJet isn't really for you, if you were _that_ OCD about things.
3 cm?. That's a bit mean. Why not a one Meter distance.
Hooray, yet another wireless transfer medium entering the fray. Hopefully sometime this coming generation they'll make an adapter for TransferJet, Wireless USB, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, WiMax, Infra-red, otherwise no-one will be able to wirelessly transfer anything to anyone due to compatibility.
You know I didnt think of all that..... Looking at my PPC6800 with its never used IR...... By the time that becomes standard they create a new tech to screw with consumers yet again....
This will be really nice for syncing. Now get a wireless charger like the one the Pre's got and you're all set. Not going to have to deal with anymore wires when it comes to your cellphone.
pre has a wireless chargers?! :D but yeah great for synching/ sharing media between devices (cell phones, laptops, camersas, etc.)
it's an optional accessory.
Idk, I wouldn't really consider that to be wireless, I mean the charger does hava a wire attached to the wall, and the pre is sorta magnetically attached to the base while charging.
It's even less convenient than a wire, because at least you can make a phone call and hold the phone to your face while plugged into a standard charger.
*charger *cameras -_-
3cm is just stupid - you may as well just connect a cable. If it were 30cm's, then maybe Id be interested, even 6" would be enough to satisfy!
If I had a TransferJet enabled table, Id have to keep that spot free of accoutrements of life in case they were thicker than 3 cm in size.
3cm might as well be a mile if you don't HAVE a cable to connect!
looks like they're using a part of the engadget logo...
Wow! Just in time! Verizon Wireless has been running out of features to block.
+1
One of the icons depicts a phone yelling into a toilet...I don't get it.
Wireless flushing.
TransferJet Consortium: Canon, Casio, Eastman Kodak, Hitachi Ltd, JVC-Kenwood Holdings, KDDI, NEC, Nikon, NTT docomo, Olympus, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, Seiko Epson, Sharp, Sony, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba. Basically these are the companies that have joined forces to promote this technology. Almost all the big shots, really, except for Nokia and a certain fruity company.
I've never needed 500+Mbps on my cell phone and certainly not at 3cm range. I hope this technology is vaporware. I'd just assume stick to bluetooth, wifi or maybe (in the future) wireless USB for my cell phone.
Can anyone tell me the difference(s) between this and Near Field Communication devices that exist today?
3 cm?
THAT'S MORE THAN ONE ENTIRE INCH!!!!
might aswell use a cable
