Is this the new iPhone?

Sure, it's Palm's big day, but that doesn't mean the Apple rumor mill is taking a break -- check out this pic of what might be the new iPhone set to drop on Monday. Yep, that's a matte black casing with no chrome border, a what looks to be a front-facing camera, and iPhone OS 3.0, so it certainly lines up with what we've heard -- but it wouldn't exactly take a Photoshop master to do this one up either. One more pic at the read link -- anyone believing this?

Update: Nowhere Else seems to be down at the moment, so we've stuck the other shots after the break.

This better not be the new iPhone. Apple doesn't need to reinvent the wheel, but it can at least get rid of some of the dead space at the top and bottom of the screen, and perhaps thin it down a hair. Besides changing out the back and a chrome ring, it is the same iPhone from two years ago. This will eventually come back to bite Apple as others are catching up, hence the Palm Pre. I hope this is the iPhone so its sales begin to shrink and teach Apple a lesson. Isn't Apple about design? It seems they've forgot.

umm looks like a ipod touch with a fingerprint where the "camera" is and a photoshopped ear piece.. can it even physically be that high?
plus you can totally tell its a case you can see where its not flush in multiple places around the phone

This looks faked to me (second image looks very "shopped"), though it could be faked yet somewhat accurate.

I'm not expecting to see a front facing camera... though I've been clamoring for one, nothing I've read indicates that one is coming in this release... Though I wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised.

The only real feature I would be stunned if they didn't include is the magnetometer (digital-compass). Without it, the iPhone will not be capable of the kinds of augmented reality techniques of the new apps flooding to the Android market. But of all the gossip, the compass feature seems to be the most certain.

I expect to upgrade to the new iPhone, but may wait until the Vuzix 920AVs are released.

I am waiting to see what Apple will announce on Monday, but this doesn't look all that great. Being the 3rd generation Iphone, I would expect something a little more "modern" than the previous two. And if the big feature is "ichat" it would be a huge bummer. Think about it, you would play with it for the first week, and then hardly ever use it. Multitasking? You would use it everyday!! Either way, Monday will let me know if I will buy a Pre or an Iphone. By the way, tried the Pre today. I don't type as fast, but I am waaaaaay more accurate than my Iphone. Both are great devices.

If it *is* real, and is the new iPhone, then one might just put it into airplane mode to "take it off the grid". Never know who out there would want to know where the leaked phones / prototypes are.

It has a compass,
Double the CPU power, quadruple GPU power (next year (2010 double/quadruple again, with a mucj more impressive screen, most significant upgrade to iphone ever)
Has video recording;
3.2 MP camera with face detection (tap on square to focus on a face), Email, MMS photo.
Dimensions seem to be very close to 3G
Apple will continue selling 3Gs for awhile as well, even with some memory upgrade option.

I think the matte is what I am most excited about, my 3G gets too thumby too quickly.

What's funny is all the people ragging on the iPhone "it's nothing great or fantastic" my question is: If that's true, why do you care enough to take your precious time out of your day to comment on it? The fact that all of you are commenting on a "pic" of what it may look like tells me deep down you LOVE the iPhone as much as I do (I wrote this using my iPhone... Hee hee!). To the whinners about a lack of "physical changes" it's tough to improve on things soooo close to perfection! The only thing they could really improve on physically is by giving it COLORS!!! I like the matte idea as well... The thing to remember is what is changing on the inside... Faster processor... Greater memory... Being able to handle video recording and editing... Sure it may not be "new" but apple makes everything easier to use and let's face it... Wow, this better be a joke else it's hardly going to be a great turnout tomorow. If this is 'a' new version of the iPhone then I hope to god it's the basic model and they have a HD version also. Apple's had 2 years to come out with somthing new in the hardware line. I'm not an iPhone person but I love my iPod touch and tomorow is the type of day i look forward to because of the obviouse implications the new iPhone will have on the iPod later in the year. This photo shows a none OLED screen, this must be wrong, Apple better have the best dam OLED screen ever seen in the new range else their well and truley screwed, it will be another year till they have a refresh and by then OLED will be old news. There's a great shot I saw the other day of a possible leaked photo of the new iPhone with a massive OLED screen and little square button along the bottom edge, it looked realy sweeeet.

Quite frankly; no, this is not the new iPhone. If you first of all look at the new 'black bezel', it seems to not even be properly conjoined onto the phone as if glued or, as previously suggested, faked by using a backing case and ipod touch (with a thiner bezel than the iPhone) ....(although I doubt this). Another theory is that they could of bought the bezel off of eBay from the Taiwanese manufactures supplying replacement parts for the new iPhone Video. Secondly I have to say the dock bar is real but above that is completely photoshopped on:/ look at the left hand side where the screen meets the bezel: there is big smudgy marks where it has been photoshopped in. I am however convinced by the earpiece and I have a theory that would explain all of this... Perhaps this is one of the prototypes that was seen racing around Hong Kong a couple of weeks back and as the 3.0 interface wasn't ready(?) they decided to photoshop some screenshots of the beta in instead , or perhaps the prototype was broken or wouldn't turn on(?) or maybe there is some killer software on the thing that the guy who took the photo thought would shock us all too much so photoshopped that shot in instead.. I don't know but I do know that ,that photo is fake. [however how much of it is fake we shall have to wait and see !! ;) ]

Honestly, this does look dull. But remember, they may do many colours, like the iPod nano. And It may be anodized aluminium (which is matte), not matt plastic, again like the iPod nano.

Listen, unless they make that new iPhone at least 25% smaller than the current models are sized at... I am not interested, even if it comes with 1TB of storage, 10MP camera and God knows what else they can fit into it.

I am just not interested in carrying long and/or fat bricks in my pockets and pretend they are cell phones... same goes for HTC & Samsung guys.

Damn it people, how hard is it to make these things just a tad tiny bit smaller so they actually FIT into a palm of my hand and don't stick out of my pants like a brick?

Thanks for the update Engadget, but to be honest, going by this and upon close inspection of the picture it is a FAKE! the easy way to see it when you look on the lip of the handset around the edge, poorly done and out of sync...its not straight and the colour is off...

poor attempt on photoshop.....

however, 16GB and 32GB incoming :)
