HP Envy 15 spotted, looking pretty real
We've heard chatter of HP-branded Envy machines in the past -- most notably the 13.1-inch Envy 13 -- and now we have specs for an alleged Envy 15-1060ea Notebook PC. According to topproduct.nl, the laptop features a 15-inch display, 1600 MHz Intel Core i7 processor-720QM CPU (6MB cache), 320GB HDD, 4GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 graphics, a Night Vision Webcam with IR LEDs for fans of the "Paris Hilton" school of videography, a 6-cell battery, Windows 7 Home Premium, and more. Get a closer look after the break.

I hear ya!
Im currently dealing w/ a dead tx and a pavilion w/ a defective WiFi card - both just out of warranty.
@Penguin -- Yes, resolutions are easy when they just send the part. In my case, my laptop constantly overheated, and suffered from random shutdowns. HPs resolution every time was "You need to send it in". After sending it in, the problems remained. They would tell me that the temperatures were within 'normal operating guidelines', even though the heat was causing the laptop to shutdown. Then they tried to sell me a $50 cooling pad. Finally, after the warranty expired, they just decided to give me the shaft.
@Bromley -- Looks like that only applies in the UK. I'm American
@F.C - Mine is a pavilion too. I have heard about the Wi-Fi issue, and that it also may be caused by the heat being generated from the GPU.
I think most of those specs are possible, except for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 graphics, that's just simply not going to happen. Reason being that this is a proper performance graphics card which would never fit into what looks like a relatively slim chassis. Further more, the power requirements of this card and heat will not be manageable in slim 15" notebook.
BUT if they do manage to pull this off without toasting the damn thing it will cost upwards of $2000 which considering the specs is fair I guess but not likely, watch it pop out with mid-range HD 3450.
HD3450 is not midrange, it is quite low end. Even if this laptop doesn't have an HD4830, which it should, it should have at least an HD4650 which is miles ahead of the 3450...
4830 is on the low end of high end, if that makes sense. Plus mobile GPU part numbers aren't always the exact same as their desktop counterparts. Considering AMD hasn't updated its mobile line in a while, I wouldn't be surprised if their 4x00 series mobile GPUs were much smaller than the older ones.
that jab at paris was a low 'blow'
Does it have a backlit keyboard?
lol I hope so.....with that gimmicky night vision cam,it would be stupid not to have a backlit keyboard
disappointing..
way cooler the older version the envy 133!! :)
that's what I thought...totally different machine. Voodoo envy is still around. weird naming strategy.
yeah.. really weird..
by the way i think i am going to get the voodoo envy 133 as soon as Win7 will be mounted on it.. even though the vaio x may be an interesting option next month(s)..
completely agree, the old one it's waaay cooler. This one looks so conventional... They should just upgrade the envy 133 with new parts (new HD, new processor, new chipset) leaving the same case.
Looks like a nice Sony spaced keyboard too
Stick an Intel SSD in there and you have a winner
and you're not seeing the back of the machine yet...def won't confuse it with a mac. Should be on US site real soon.
Holy crap, no bluetooth????????
Quite the beast. Would like to know the price.
well done, hp
Looks like a really nice design
Computer looks slick. I'm in the market for a laptop the next few months... I'd be interested to see what the price of this one is.
Where's the carbon fiber that made the Envy 133 so unique?
I am still confused about quad-core.
Will 4 X 1.6 be better than the
2 X 2.0 I have now?
Will my DVD's rip and video formats encode that much faster?
Bc most software doesnt take advantage of the multi cores right?
Same question here.Is my 2.6 GHz dual core running at 5.2 Ghz???
Processing power doesn't scale linearly with more cores - eg. four cores running at 1.6GHz aren't twice as fast as two cores at 1.6GHz in real life.
For some tasks (like transcoding video/audio, rendering 3D images etc), you'll get somewhat close to the ideal performance gain, because those things can be split into many near-independent threads (small parts of an app that can run concurrently) that are distributed among the available cores, so that each core is well-utilized. But many algorithms/tasks simply cannot be split efficiently into more threads without having to sacrifice a lot of time synchronising the threads (often one thread has to wait till it gets the results of another thread etc.), so the additional cores aren't that well-used.
But still, four 1.6GHz cores will be faster than two 2.0GHz for pretty much every task, and since software development techniques are slowly but surely getting more focused on concurrent programming, the performance gain of a quadcore will only become bigger in the future.
also, a 2.4ghz core i7 out performs a 3.2ghz Q9xxx cpu by a fair margin. so a 1.6ghz core i7 would be about the same as a 2.4ghz core 2 quad.
These i7's are destroying core 2s in benchmarks. The implementation of turbo boost means that if you're only using 1 core, it will automatically overclock it into the neighborhood of 2.8 GHz, while shutting down the other 3 cores. If it's using two cores, it'll shut two down and overclock the two that are in use to ~2.5 GHz, or something like that. etc. etc...
wish it had a gps, wifi N, usb 3.0, ddr3 ram, bluetooth 3.0, gtx 280m... and under $2k... lol

20 bucks says it has a craptastic 1366x720 "HD display". Oh please please please be 1080 or higher.
First 40nm GPU laptop. Mobility 4830 compareable to the desktop 4770 which is better than 9800.
First 32nm CPU laptop. But I don't know why it called i7, not i3... It must be i3 accoding to Intel Roadmap.. Am I wrong?
it may look like a mac, but its a hp and they bulid shit laptops i would rather spend the extra money to get a real mac rather than deal with all the problems this thing will likely have and having to send it back so many times! . less stress
My first thought upon seeing that picture was "this seems stangely familiar"
Nice job HP. You're really helping the image of PCs with cool and original designs.
It has a HDMI port just like the 2014 macbook pro
Yeah, this thing looks exactly like my boyfriend's macbook. At least the specs are good. But seriously anybody who thinks that this doesn't look like a macbook pro is in denial or just hates apple soooo much they are not willing to admit it. Fanboys of products are such dumbass.
I hate OSX but have to admit that apple designs some very nice products. I was wanting to get a macbook and just use win7 in bootcamp since I like the aluminum design. Now I don't have to give my money to crapple and can get a HDMI output!!!
