When we saw the HP-branded Envy leak a whole four days ago we certainly didn't expect to get any news on the beast so soon, but 'lo and behold! The new Envy is here, and we've been getting plenty of positive feedback from HP fanboys the world o'er regarding the new sub-brand. Who could find fault with a Windows machine that features everything we love about those new MacBooks, including the chicklet keyboard, unibody aluminum chasis, thin-and-light physique, multitouch trackpad, and all the Microsoft OS action you so obviously crave, wrapped ever-so-lovingly in a Hewlett Packard shell? We'll tell you who: Lady Gaga. That's right, the popular recording artist and all-around good American just found out that HP has teamed up with Dr. Dre to create a limited edition Envy 15 laptop and is a little perturbed that she wasn't involved in the branding. How dare they think that a matte black chassis and bright red "Beats" logo would be enough to sell this bad boy? We'll tell you what -- if you feel for her plight, you might think about spending some of your heard earned cash on a pair of her headphones. The rest of us can feel content to peep the gallery below and think about what might have been.
So basically it's a normal laptop with a logo slapped on it.
@ Onox37 Yes, a normal laptop with an intel i7 processor, a nightvision webcam, HD graphics, running windows 7. Yup just like all the other laptops out there.

And i wonder why caps with Football team logos still sell these days despite it being 1000x much more expensive than any goddamn cap handed out for free,

Yes i know Dre probably doesn't know much about laptops, but acer has been slapping Ferrari badges onto laptops for some time now, but hp thinks it can sell to people who want sound quality by teaming up with a brand most people know by

If it truly is matte, as stated in the post (back cover looks glossy in the pics), and if you could black out the beats logo it would look pretty cool.

When you play non-'gangsta', they automatically shut themselves down to save you from your crappy music.
The problem with this is...it ends up costing more than the Macbooks do. I just got a 13' MBP and would have definitely picked this HP Envy over it if price wasn't as object. Sadly that is always the case.

I don't want the Dr. Dre Envy, but yeah, seeing how great Windows 7 is looking + the fact that thanks to crappy drivers from Apple the MBP only runs the 9600m GT under Windows (VERY HOT LAP!!!!), yeah, I agree.
Unless the Envy is more expensive, but it looks like the HP takes most of the greatness of the MBP and adds more power at presumably the same price.

How does it's multitouch trackpad work? Is it possible to get my MBP to use Multitouch gestures in Windows 7? The three finger swipe is the only reason I primarily run OSX and it would REALLY be awesome if I could just use Windows. My zune would love me.

Yeah pretty much dude. That and Expose. It makes life much easier. To me Windows 7 and OSX don't have significant differences in everyday usability. If I need to do something Windows specific I use my desktop and I never do anything Max specific. So I could just use windows if I had the multitouch features.
When I first read the title I told to myself: it must mean this laptop will have some sort of dedicated build-in sound card with better speakers, right, or AT LEAST pffer a pair of headphones. But nope, it seams you pay a lot more for a wallpaper. And if its the one showed in the article picture anyone can do in Paint in 5min tops.
Can't say I care for Lady Gaga. I'd say she can lick my balls, but apparently she's got her own, so that puts her out of the running for quite a few reasons.

This is a pretty sweet looking machine. Would be nice if it came preloaded with Detox :)

What the HELL does this have to do with Dr. Dre? The earphones I can understand...barely. Basketball shoes for basketball stars...OK.
But a notebook?...and one that could never run the beat making applications they use in the studio?
Man, I used to rock FLStudio on a 1.5GHz single-core Athlon XP fool.
But yeah, the branding I'm going to have to question.

ive personally tried their headphones on their specific test booth and they were flat and tinny, there was no BOOM to the low baselines and it generally sounded like something ordered from dealextreme

Can we get a good shot of the keyboard? I'm pretty sure from these pics they changed the B on the keyboard to the logo found on the headphones.
hell, it beats the original HP logo. I wouldn't not buy it because of the logo. But i also wouldn't buy it if it costs more because of the same reason...
Have you heard the phrase, "putting lipstick on a pig"? Well, that's Lady Gaga. Lipstick on a pig. How did that ugly skank who looks like she came from a trailer park get a recording contract? And why would she think that she should have been included in Dre's business? Dre has been around since the 80's (NWA anyone?) and like him or not, he's proven that he can play this game and do very well in it. I'll bet $5000 that hardly anyone even remembers Lady Gaga's name in five years. She's just a fad, and an ugly one at that.

jebus i used to have beats by dr dre, they're cheap as hell they broke within a week, so i got beyerdynamic dt770 manufaktur :D
i just wish it came with a built in optical drive, i really wish it did because i would buy it without a second thought.
