You should be able to stick in 2GB DDR3. Microsoft's licensing with cheap $15 XP copies is that they can't have more than 1GB DDR3 or 160GB storage space.
The person at HP I spoke with said that it wasn't possible for an end user to upgrade the RAM to something more useful like 2 GB. Of course, it might be pretty easy to do despite HP's claiming it can't be done, but there's no way to be sure until it starts shipping and people get to play with 'em.
