New Apple Bluetooth keyboard and mouse arrive at the FCC
Well, well, what's this? A new Apple Bluetooth keyboard and mouse have arrived at the FCC, and they've got new model numbers of A1314 and A1296 -- the current wireless keyboard is A1255 and the Mighty Mouse is A1197. That's pretty much all we know for now, but these keyboard dimensions are also smaller than the current model, which rules out a return of the numeric keypad -- sorry to dash your hopes, Excel jockeys. Is this the new keyboard rumored to accompany an iMac refresh? We'll have to wait to find out -- but on a similar note, AppleInsider says Steve Jobs himself is leading the development of this new mouse, featuring some kind of multitouch and potentially housed in an aluminum shell. That would certainly explain those multitouch mouse patents we've seen in the past, as well as bring the desktop mousing experience in line with the multitouch action found on the MacBooks -- AI says the new mice somehow enable iPhone-style kinetic scrolling, which would definitely be interesting. So... you want to maybe schedule an event to launch all this stuff, Steve?
Update: And... Apple's managed to yank the images out of the FCC filings, which is about as fast as we've ever seen that happen.
Update 2: Revised images have been posted, carefully cropped to show only the relevant FCC labeling -- although model numbers remain. This is absolutely the fastest we've ever seen the FCC database change, it's rather impressive.
Update 3: AppleInsider's revised their post to say an aluminum mouse is just speculation, so this thing could be plastic after all.

What you can't see is that the other side is one big multitouch screen with a virtual keyboard and haptic feedback.
I hope this has as few moving parts as the iPhone. Death to clicky mice!
Apple needs its own version of a Bluetrack or Darkfield like technology for the next Mighty Mouse-so it could work well on glass surfaces for instance and also note the "Request for confidentiality" was produced sometime in August 2009.
I agree even though I hardly get a chance to use my computer on a glass surface it still would be a plus.
If anybody from Apple is reading this thread, maybe they can do something about the fact that the Mighty Mouse is completely unusable to those of us with large hands. When I try to use one, two things happen: 1) I grip the body of the mouse, not the two tiny fingerholds, meaning that when I try to click, I'm pushing against my own grip. There is no excuse for having two tiny fingerholds when you could make the entire side of the mouse grippable. That's what Microsoft and Logitech do. 2) My hand cramps up because the mouse is so slim that no portion of my hand rests on the mouse comfortably. I know the Mighty Mouse isn't the only mouse with this problem, but that's no excuse. It's pretty funny that I own three different Microsoft mice to use with my MacBook Pro (work, home, and the one that stays in my bag). Unfortunately, the MS bluetooth mouse loses the connection frequently, so I'd love to replace all three with an Apple mouse, but I can't if it's not actually usable.
Now open bluetooth on the iphone to connect with them, then let the iphone AV cable stream all iphone screens, not just video, and you would have the world's smallest desktop computer.
Is this a keyboard with no keys and full multitouch and does it have anything to do with this post "http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/02/apple-seeks-to-take-multitouch-where-its-never-been-before-in-n/". Or am i being too imaginative ? Maybe i just wish it to be so :)
I think in the same direction. If I read the rumor on this page http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/09/apple-tablet-everything/ the really interesting statement is the following: if the iTablet really got 7 times the area of an iPhone with 10.7 inches diagonally, you end up in the form factor of the "bluetooth keyboard" mentioned in this thread. There is no other form factor satisfying these two conditions.
This form factor has quite some interesting usage: 1) can be used as "keyboard". 2) you can view Panavision films (~1:2.4) uncropped. 3) holding it vertically, you can read a page of a paper back 1:1 and have still room for on-screen controls (like a Kindle but the Kindle's real keys replaced by touch keys).
Saitek already pushing a new Eclipse Touch mouse in Europe, new design , Bluetooth , OFN (optical finger navigation) * Mouse Gestures: already on German retailers sites like Amazon and other.

Oh Boy!
A mouse doing Mulitouch?
How the hell?
Guess we will find out!
Why are so many discussing Apple's mice and keyboards as if they were the only Mac compatible ones? Why does every Windows fanboy claim that Mighty Mouse and the puck mouse are good enough reasons as to why the Mac as a platform sucks? If you are not happy with the included cheap mouse, you just get the one you want instead. Macs are not any different from other PC's in that case.
No one ever complains about the cheap crap mice and keyboards that comes free with regular PC's, claiming that they represent how bad Windows as a platform is.
PS. I love the Mighty Mouse because it fits my hand perfectly. I bought it whithout a doubt on its release week, replacing my Logitech. Just accept that all hands are different ...
i am from the future , there are not new keyboards yet, but there are new mighty mouses, now called magic mouses. there are also new imacs that run core i5 and i7. it is amazing, you should come check it out
