Dell bringing Mini 3i Android set to AT&T?
Dell, Android, and AT&T have been mentioned in an awful lot of whispered sentences over the past few months, so today's Wall Street Journal report on a Round Rock-sourced Android set for Ma Bell isn't exactly a huge surprise. Apparently Dell's making some tweaks to the Chinese-market Mini 3i in preparation for a 2010 Stateside launch -- obviously the China Mobile-specific OPhone build would have to go away in favor of full-flavored Android, and we'd bet that WiFi and a nicer camera make their way into the casing as well. That's really all we know for now, but we're sure Dell's soon to hold an 8AM event where some random exec will pull it out of his pocket for 10 seconds before putting it away and announcing Inspiron laptops can now be ordered with giant Affliction dragon logos painted on them. You just keep doing what you do, Dell.

I just nostaliga'd for my Axim X5.
Oh wait, I have a TP2...all is good.
How are you liking TP2?
I'm planning on getting one from ATT.
Also, if this Dell phone is anything like the Axims, then it will be a winner.
It's great...I actually wasn't expecting much coming from a Touch Pro, but I was pleasantly surprised. The screen is nice. I did actually have a friend switch to VZW from AT&T because he hated what they did with the number row on it...but really it's kind of minor.
Why not wait for HD2? Keyboard only reason I can think of.
You've got a Touch Pro 2 with AT&T? I'm looking at AT&T's site right now only see 1 HTC phone (Pure). I'm logged in though, so it could be a limitation due to my location.
After some digging it looks like all of the major carriers have the HTC TP2 except AT&T... browsing through AT&T's offerings for phones is pretty depressing. Glad my contract runs out next month...
E-gadg...you guys are slow today. This has been on the main stream wire for some time already
You must be new here. Welcome to engadget. Feel free to look around, enjoy some refreshments, and if you have any questions, feel free not to ask.
@rab: I concur.
Well... there was real news to cover, so we pushed this back. It's not like we didn't hear about it -- we just figured people would rather read about the actual products that were announced today.
We have johnny come lately phone and johnny come lately news!
They complement each other!
+1 on the Axim. Was an awesome device...hopefully the phones will follow suit!
i just get tired of those games dell play... pull out a new laptop for 5 seconds and gives us no information etc. people have to know they are just baiting people. Just enough to keep us interested.
With Verizon's announcement yesterday AT&T is the last major carrier without any announced Android phones. Better get on the ball before all Android fans go to each other carrier.
I might have to get myself an unlocked Android phone from Rogers the way things are going on at AT&T. Hopefully they have Android phones soon.
Does anyone even care about this announcement. They make a horrible computer so why does anyone think they might make a good phone. The only thing good about it is Android, but if the hardware sucks than what difference... I will pass. I think I will stick to my rooted myTouch from T-Mobile!
Really?? We use nothing but Dell desktops and servers in our company and have never had any trouble.
Android netbooks to follow?
I'm glad AT&T is getting Android, but that's not the phone I want unless the original Chinese version specs have been heavily upgraded. This coming out for AT&T though probably means more from other manufactures are also going to come on AT&T. Hopefully HTC is one of them.
The Chinese govt is imposing restrictions on cell phone specifications (e.g. no wifi) so it's hard to compare what is released in China with the international market. They want to be able to block all cell phone traffic if necessary to keep a lid on any unpleasant news.
..... NOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooo!!! LOL
A crappy phone for a crappy service!
Doesn't look half bad...
doesn't look half good
Looks pretty nice to me.
Awesome! i welcome any and all competition to teh market
This phone sucks.
