So-No!
No ATI options? Meh, my recent experience with Nvidia makes me want to avoid this otherwise nice looking laptop.
Shouldn't it be noted that the base price is $799, not "(its) packing up to a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo with NVIDIA GeForce GT230M or GT210M graphics under a 14-inch screen for $799." :\
What is the base gpu then?
That thing looks faaaaaat.
That is what she said.
i'd go with nokia 3g booklet. thanks!
I'll go with a chicken salad sub then ! Oh wait we're both talking about completely different products than the Sony......
"pretty" chunky is an understatement
How does the GT230 compare to the ATI 4570 or the 4670?
Thats like saying the girl i slept with is "pretty chunky" For what this is, its not that impressive, other than Sony finally starting to roll out some reasonable priced, decent looking laptops.
wtf is wrong with Sony? This thing is fat and ugly, yet somehow still overpriced? how does that work?
Compare to what? Most 14in laptops are around the same price, and have similar specs(yet to see a 14in with the nvidia 200 series). So, if you can point to how this is over priced?
Fat and ugly (from this angle), but definitely not overpriced.
Sad thing is their previous CS series had an option for a Blu-Ray drive yet had only a 1280x800 screen and not HDMI out. WOW.
I'm looking forward to the return of the chunky laptop. Double decker CD-ROM motorized tray drive and 3 1/2" floppy for the win!
Sounds like a decent deal, a much better deal than the super-expensive-not-netbook laptops that they're selling.
CW? does it have any Gossip Girl or ANTM content?
I see a lot of people on here rag on sony, and while they do make a few dumbass decisions, the Vaio SR and the Z are still 2 of the BEST 13 inch laptops ever made. And the TT is a little demon (pricewise and performance). Just my two cents. And this thing looks like a pretty good less expensive alternative, albeit slightly overweight.
I agree. I had the previous iteration of the Z (before they brought it back) and not only did it last me 5 years, but it was an absolute beast with easily 4 hours of battery in 2004. Wish the new versions would come down in price a bit though - I guess I'll settle for my second favorite in the SR
Don't really care about the thickness. I already have a netbook I use for school and as long as I can have something approaching the mentioned specs under $1000 it's a deal as far as I'm concerned.
can I has virtualization ?
Core 2 :( Why not the newer i7 or i5?
Good point. I think laptop makers aren't quite sure what the purpose of these laptops is....are they just portable devices to use when you're not at your desktop, or are they desktop replacements? If the latter then they should all be coming with quadcore processors now...preferably the i7 or i5
I think I'ma love this more than the VAIO X. The presence of an optical drive just makes this one a bit more viable -- no need to purchase an external DVD drive.
I'm actually afraid I might tear that VAIO X apart.
Got to play with one of these at work, believe me when I say its not as thick as it looks in the photos. I'm definitely picking one up on the 22nd, the configuration was c2d t6600 4gb ddr3 memory nvidia 210m with 256mb and bluray drive.....all for 850, now thats a good deal!
