Nexus One rooted already?
No, you still can't have one (not yet, at least), but we've received a number of tips directing us Modaco forums, where admin Paul claims to have rooted Google's not-so-mysterious Nexus One. We can't validate the "superboot" file works, but the adjacent picture has popped up from another forum member as apparent anecdotal confirmation. Instructions for Windows, Linux, and OS X users can be found along with the necessary materials. What do you say, hacker community, any chance we can get multitouch loaded into the device before it ever becomes official to the world at large?[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

UGH! Seriously, when will you get it through your thick skulls that Android already supports multitouch. It's Google's apps that don't support it.
@mattcoz Exactly Matt! That's what I've been telling them for soooo long yet the Ignorant refuse to see the truth. So whatever, we can use it in our Nexus' while the rest of thing sit around all staring into the distance.
@mattcoz
agreed. I have an unlocked European HTC Hero with Sense that supports multi-touch and pinch to zoom in the browser and the pics apps. Its just a matter of time before those get ported on to the Nexus One
It's weird that one would own a Unix box (or, ehm, Android Linux phone) and *not* have root on it. Rootless Unix users make baby Linus and RMS cry.
Not trying to be a party pooper - but doesn't anybody else think that picture looks mighty fake?
@wpboon ... Guess the explanation ABOVE the picture was taken into account by Engadget by not by me. Sorry. Just ignore my reply (and this one as well while you're at it).
ST-Ericsson =)
First of all, the nexus doesnt come rooted.
And yes all that was done in the build.prop was to change ro.secure = 0 which enables the shell using adb to have root access by default.
And the note is a message to me in response to the question I asked my "source" with the Nexus whether or not we had root. The picture was my answer.
We used pauls boot.img because for some reason our boot.img didnt boot on the phone, although we did the same thing, some error on our part. Anyways paul asked us to try his and we did, and it worked.
This was easily possible because the Nexus we were working on had an eng spl, which im doubtful the release version will have.

I heard that the retail Nexus One will not be able to be rooted as easily. http://nexusonebb.com/forums/
