Lenovo leaks ThinkPad Edge, X100e, T410s, W510, T510 and more ahead of CES
Hey Lenovo, your cards are showing. Just weeks after the FCC tipped us off on a new pair of netbooks that are all but definitely slated for a CES unveiling, Lenovo has no one but its web administrator(s) to blame for this one. A "New product showcase" portal over on the outfit's site has just revealed a half dozen new lappies that are slated to go on sale starting January 5th - 7th, with the ultra-sleek 13.3-inch ThinkPad Edge (pictured above) leading the way. Said rig boasts up to 7.8 hours of battery life, a dual-core CPU, Windows 7, Bluetooth and WiMAX options, integrated WWAN / GPS, WiFi, a spill-resistant keyboard, three USB ports, a 5-in-1 media card reader and an option for a red paint job. There's also a sub-3 pound ThinkPad X100e ultraportable with an 11.6-inch display, AMD processor and an only-available-overseas Arctic White color option. The T410, T410s, T510 and W510 are bringing up the rear, with their (admittedly brief) specification lists spelled out in the source links below.

want.
@Dking7
I would if it was still IBM...
@Prospero
Why?
My x200 is way better built than my IBM T42. I really don't understand the "IBM was better" comments; IBM definitely had its share of problems with it's Thinkpads too, stop treating them like they were the holy grail.
@bigcow05
The grass is always greener in the past for some people.
Plus, there is no such thing as a perfect laptop. People will always bitch about something.
@Dking7
Ditto. Soo dittoing right now.
@max1001
Couldn't agree more. There's always a price to power to portability trade-off. The thinnest laptop can't be the cheapest and the most powerful, yet people will bitch to no end about a unit not fitting exactly into their desired niche.
Edge is clearly to compete with Vostro, as Lenovo hasn't had anything to offer in small business segment. I'm actually torn between ThinkPad 4xxx and Latitude E64xx. I wanna see what Arrandale products Dell will offer.
@Prospero I agree. It would have been nice if it still belonged to IBM.
After the law changes and we all will be forced to have the mandatory neuro implants, we will also have to laern Mandarin, and the robots will take over.
Lenovo is good; IBM was better.
Only haters of IBM would downgrade something like your post.
@Dking7
... and its down.
@Leo
Stay away from the latitude e6400s. We use them at work, and I am still using my old T42 (which if you look on the bottom, is a Lenovo anyway) because the e6400s are just junk. Utter craptops. I literally watched one break while it was sitting on a conference table. The screen just cracked down the middle. The screens seem to be a weak point to begin with, we've replaced 6 screens out of probably 40-50 e6400s we just bought in within the last 2 months. We are evaluating new companies now, and I am pushing hard to go back to Lenovo, the cost savings isn't a savings if we have to spend the difference on a "dell total care" plan to cover the laptops that break themselves.
If you do go dell, make sure you spend the several hundred dollars on a good warranty, as when they break, dell considers you at fault even if it happens just sitting there, and won't cover their own faulty products. Trust me, I was the one on the phone with their rep, two hours of my life I will never get back.
That is one sexy piece of hardware.
@charlietokowitz If you get turned on by designs rooted in the 80s and 90s!
@Khris You don't?
@ImSpartacus Not in the slightest!
@Khris You must be less than ten years old.
@BigD145 You must be joking.
@ImSpartacus As for specifications, there’s nothing definite at this stage, but they’re putting their neck out and tipping either AMD’s Athlon 1.6GHz Neo processor with ATI Radeon HD3410 graphics or Intel’s Centrino 2 ULV 1.4GHz processor paired with GMA 4500MHD graphics.

All now unveiled on the CES
I'm glad they didn't change the traditional Thinkpad models. The x100e looks very sleek; finally a netbook with a trackpoint!
@bigcow05
what about the VAIO P? or do you consider that a notebook?
Oh dear. That leak earlier for the Edge was real. Still no fan of the silver trim for the Thinkpad Edge, I think it looks too tacky and commercial-wannabe for a Thinkpad, a serious machine.
I'm glad Lenovo is taking monitor color gamut seriously for the W510 - 95% of the NTSC gamut makes it a real competitor to the RGB LED Dell Studio XPS 1645.
Damn. Give the Edge an 8-cell battery with an equivalent battery life to the Asus UL30A and I'm in!
I'm liking the design and the nipple. Good ones.
hmm my x200t would like a bigger brother, perhaps a t410s hehe
Also, Edge lady on the fourth pic looks a bit stoned. Happy much?
apple should cast her for their next 'switch' commercial.
"it devoured.....my paper..It was really good paper."
@thoughtmonster - stoned look is something different I'd say...rather majorly pissed off about something. Either way, brilliant marketing, Lenovo!
"Buy this PC, and you'll hate life as much as I do *scowlofdeathlook*"
No info on the X210's ?
@M3 I was waiting for just that news myself, actually. I think we'll know on or before January 7. I love Lenovo's current clearance sale's motto "your PC is so last year". It's about to be true for everyone who's buying a Lenovo now!
"lappies" you say?
huh.
1. - I wish the small ones had touch pad. I HATE touchpads
2 - When is the X210? thats all i am interested in.
3 - I hope the X210 has no touchpad
4 - Please dont make it look stupid and white
------ I LOVE YOU LENOVO<
@(Unverified) - hate to break it to ya, but you can be dead sure that every new portable computer will come with a touchpad.
If your misguided hate towards them overwhelms you, simply deactivate it permanently and be done with it. Lenovo would be stupid to limit themselves to the tiny subset of the people who prefer nubs to touchpads to a degree that the lack of a touchpad is actually seen as an advantage.
@NewL Actually, the x200, which was released in 2008, came without a touchpad; one of my favorite things about it. It is an 12" ultraportable with a full-size keyboard, so there really isn't space for one. I think (Unverified) is thinking about a very similar setup, but with an updated design. Luckily Lenovo has stayed true to the trackpoint thus far.
@NewL uhh, not really. x200/t don't have touchpads, neither does the vaio P.
Well, my bad. So there is one laptop without touchpad in the last 2 years (the Vaio P doesn't count - the only reason it doesn't have a touchpad is that there is absolutely no way to place one in that form-factor).
Also, it's a dumb decision on Lenovo's part to not offer a touchpad on the X200. Way to limit the amount of potential customers of this pricey notebook even more...
@NewL While I agree with you for the general public, my X200s (from September 2009) lacks a touchpad, and just rocks the trackpoint. And I absolutely love that.
I am waiting to see what Lenovo does for the X200 line, an updated X210{s,t,etc} would be really nice, though these machines are basically large netbooks with full laptop power, and a 1440x900 screen at 12 inches!
@(Unverified) It prolly won't since it will probably have a 16:9 screen. The W510 has one so the only logical conclusion is that the whole line will move to 16:9, which David Hill has confirmed will become the next industry standard :(
And yes, Thinkpads will (probably) be 16:9 :(((
I don't like the touchpad buttons on the X100e. They look very thin and too close to the edge.
@Brother Unit No 4 Learn to use the superior trackpoint and its buttons instead.
@CommentsTroll Superior only to some. To the rest of us, a huge annoyance.
Looks good to me! It'll be interesting to see what people think of Lenovo's chicklet keyboard.
@MRCUR that interests me too.. i've got a trusty T61, and the keyboard is a dream to write on. I'm hoping for the same on the new ones.
CES is going to be hot this year...
yecch... did you see the screen on that? It looks like they put in wide screen - but instead of changing the dimensions of the laptop, they just increased the size of the bezel on the top and bottom.
@louden - exactly. The Edge looks pretty nice when closed (a bit chubby but whatever), but opened it just looks cheap with that huge bezel above/below the screen.
If it was just a little more squarish, a 4:3 screen would have fit easily...
The press releases have just been leaked!
X100e will cost $449: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=83499
There will be a 13, 14 and 15 inch ThinkPad Edge, some of the 14 and 15 inch models will have a backlit keyboard: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=83501
The T410 will get 22 hours of battery life with a 9 cell battery and a 9 cell slice that attaches to the bottom of the laptop. The W510 will have USB 3.0: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=83502
@Stefan Constantine the Thinkpad Edge sounded cool until I read it only has dreadful AMD processors. Forget about it.
But the T410 with 22 hours of battery life sounds pretty cool.
@Stefan Constantine That's actually kind of disappointing. $449 looks like it will be the price for a single core Neo. That means the dual core will probably be over $500. And there's no mention of battery life anywhere, which is troubling.
I have one of these... Except it's from '03 and it has IBM on it instead of Lenovo.
So, where are all of these TOUCHSCREEN Lenovo netbooks we have been hearing about on Engadget for the past year? I am tired of being overwhelmed with vaporware for a year on Engadget then when CES comes, everyone forgets about it. Let's see someone "walk the walk" for once.
@Common Sense The W510 supposedly offers a touchscreen, also the T400 already has a touchscreen available.
