Power hungry, are you?
ASUS has just the rig for you, as it just launched its newest Republic of Gamers laptop here at a CES press event. The G73jh is doing its darnedest to make every other gaming lappie out there look downright weak, with this one boasting a
Core i7-720QM CPU, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, 8-channel HD audio, up to 1TB of HDD space and DirectX 11 compatibility thanks to the internal ATI Radeon HD 5870. You'll also get a spacious 17.3-inch display, a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, Blu-ray / DVD combo drive, 8-cell battery, a 2 megapixel webcam, 802.11b/g WiFi, gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1, an 8-in-1 card reader and a mini-VGA connector. Naturally, Windows 7 Home Premium will be running the show, and this thing is far from being slim and sexy. There's no word yet on a price and release, but we'll keep you posted.
Update: We nabbed a quick hands-on, check it out!
The laptop I've been looking for. Now I just gotta get a job to buy it.
@n8equalsd
More like 2
@n8equalsd
its got a bit of a booty!
@n8equalsd
Got the job, got the money, got the wife...got told, not until we know what Uncle Sam will return to us.
@n8equalsd
lol actually its cheap for high end gaming laptops!
@GoogleCEO
wooord, i'm just waiting for more sites to offer this baby. WHO WANTS MAH MONEYY
This laptop only has Wireless B/G?..NO N?!? Come on Asus, other than that this seems like a killer laptop!
@(Unverified) The Asus ROG G73Jh runs on Intel Core i7 processor, DirectX 11 capable ATI Radeon HD5870 graphics, up to 8GB of DDR3 system memory, 8-channel HD audio with EAX 4.0 compatibility, on-the-fly overclocking, ambient lighting, and 1TB of storage space for incredible gaming and multitasking performance. Gamers laptop indeed: http://bit.ly/asus-rog-g73jh-details
*Actual Stealth Jet Not Included, Stealth Jet Like Awesomeness Remains
@yulebellow
Agreed.
It's even got a better graphics card than my desktop computer, but costs five times as much.
look at the vents in the back
*actual stealth jet engines remain
Now that is one sexy manly tasty ever so lovely piece of hardware. Typing this on a latest generation MacBook Pro and do wish Apple would do the black all over thing again like this ASUS feast. It's almost worth switching to Windows for. Almost... ;)
@Oflife
Your choice of vocabulary is annoying...sorry.
@Oflife I'm an Apple hater but.. this thing is not one bit pretty.
@Oflife
Just call it what it is...the Droid's best friend.
@ndrwme
ya the ass is going to get a bit of work to get used to.. the hands on pictures shows off the big ass on it. Worth it if it's going to keep this beast cool.
how can this thing not have 802.11n?
@syobwoc
Has to be a typo
@Jeff I sure hope so. It's too badass of a lappie to not have it.
@syobwoc
xoticpc.com has it speced Built-in 802.11 Wireless A/B/G/N upgradable for $33 to Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 5300 802.11 a/g/n
http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g73jha1-p-2731.html?wconfigure=yes
@syobwoc
it says 802.11N in the technical specs page in the gallery
wow this is exactly what i was looking for. i've been holding off an i7 laptop because i didn't like the idea of grilling my palms when i type.
WANT
Is there any site where I can get stats on battery life for specific notebooks? I'd imagine an 8-cell battery for this would last a lot shorter than it would doing the equivalent activity on an 8-cell battery on say, an EEE 1001
@WhatHappened
any laptop reviewing website will have stats for battery life. most of the time if you just google the laptop your interested in the review will compare it to other laptops in the same catagory as to performance/battery life. give it a quick search!
@WhatHappened Anything with this much hardware is not going to have a long battery. In generally gaming laptop and long battery life a pretty mutually exclusive.
http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g73jha1-order-p-2731.html
Starting at 1650 - not a bad price for that hardware
@Matt04WJ True and the only option I could see adding is the Intel WLan for $33. Upgrading the CPU is a bit ridiculous at close to $500 and $1000 for the 820 and 920 respectively. Give it a year or so and pick one up cheaper and swap it yourself. That's what I have been doing with my notebooks to get a bit more life out of them. Also interesting to see its got 4 Ram sockets, too bad they don't have a 4GBx2 option so you could go to 12 or 16GB down the road a lot easier.
@Matt04WJ
how come the pictures in the gallery don't look like anything in the press release in this article?
Ho. Lee. Shit.
That is fucking incredible. It has to be a typo in regards to the 802.11b/g. How can this thing not have Wireless N? Even so, those specs are fucking incredible, and it doesn't even look that thick either, which is just remarkable for a laptop of that size.
Someone hand me a napkin, I just had a nerd-gasm.
@Solidstate89
It's probably a typo homeskillet.
I know where they're getting the inspiration from, but the design is just dam ugly! Now their NX90Jq on the other hand is a different story.
@rturius
A beast is not for good looks.
I need to take a shower now.
@DrDr Same here!
Cool to see the retired F-117 in the background... Nothing like showing old aircraft.
An SSD would have been much better.
i wish these gaming laptops came in smaller sizes, like 13.1
such as the new Vaio Z...
@(Unverified)
they can't because it's difficult to design a laptop with a graphics card that will fit into a smaller screen. Not to mention they're going to have to deal with cooling and such as well. I believe right now the smallest you can go for a gaming notebook is 15.4" where both Alienware and Clevo/Sager have offerings.
Of course, you can still play games on laptops with 13" screens, but the graphics card probably can't handle high res or high fps for graphically intensive games.
I also think that it's kind of strange playing games on such a small screen, unless you're just going to play occasionally in which case there's no need to waste that much on a gaming laptop since a desktop is so much cheaper
Wait, a desktop 5870 or a mobile Radeon 5870? O.o
I highly doubt a desktop variant would be able to be cooled sufficiently in a laptop space.
@octoberasian
ATI Mobility Radeon 5870 1GB GDDR5
Is there really a lot of point in wasting space with a battery?
Oh, how I wish I could do my taxes sooner. I pine for this laptop and am being forced, by my wife, to wait in agony until we know how much our tax return will be. Hurry up with those W2s, move it! I just hope these aren't sold out when she lets me pull the trigger, oh how distraught I'd be...
The 2 megapixel camera kills it :-) Even cellphones have a better camera!
@idaknowman most web cams are .3 to 1.3 megapixels so 2 is an improvement.
Sweet! Now add dual touch pads and a 1080P HD web cam! Then my money may go your way...

Dell Adamo Fat.
So did it give you an HJ?
Guess I will not be getting that G51J-A1 when the come back into stock at Newegg after all...
I can totally see this thing taking its place, although I would replace the OS with something slightly better.
I'm not sure why, but I really need one of these.
If you have to ask how much it is.....you cannot afford it.
