Sony Ericsson Xperia X2a appears on US site screaming 'I'm coming!'
Whoa! After two months of delay Sony Ericsson's finally done something with the Xperia X2 -- giving it an extra 'a' (for North America) instead of pushing it out to us mere mortals. Mind you, the number of times we've seen this thing -- even as a KIRF -- may fool you into thinking it's been out forever, but the reality is it's slowly morphing into a unicorn. You know what though? If we wait for another two months, the X2 / X2a might even get a piece of that Windows Mobile 7 action. Or Windows Mobile 8, when SE's eventually done with its siesta.

That sounds....wrong....
@Ahmedz the cpu must sucked to be not even in the hardware category in specifications...
@Ahmedz miggy?? no way
@va jj According to specs published at GSMArena is the same old Qualcomm 528 MHz processor rocked by many a phone, so nothing spectacular as you speculated.
Enough of this WM bashing. If you want to be productive, Windows Mobile is still the best option. Businessmen do not care about fancy graphics.
For the people who have been comparing iPhone OS and Windows Phone OS - can you iPhone be used as USB flash drive? Windows Mobile has been doing that for years.
I believe in functionality, not in Fancy graphics
@iluvms
And businesses around the world use Symbian and to a lesser extent Blackberry OS. WinMo is a distant third, even when it comes to productivity.
Of course if I see a phone like my Zune HD, that will probably change, but until then WinMo will stay behind.
@Ahmedz
Yay for innuendo!
You folks are free to take that title into the gutter.
@LAY 8=D ?
@LAY
that's what she said! :o
Sony Ericsson makes some kick-ass phones, but they take so long to come out (and are often unsubsidized) in North America that it isn't even worth it.
Take for instance the X10. It was groundbreaking when it was announced. But by the time it comes out it will be nothing special. And if it isn't subsidized (Were looking at you AT&T) I can't see them selling very many units.
@kevin52094 watch this thing come out after the imported x10 arrives lmao...
fap fap fap?
just out of curiosity, how big a dent is this shiny piece of hardware going to make in my wallet...im assuming there's no subsidized options to go with any carrier?
@kongmw probably 600-800 bucks on release date.
Way too little, way too late. It's hardly an improvement over the X1, which is over a year old... 0,2 inches more screen, 1mm less thick, same processor... If that's all you can do in more then a year time, it's time to go out of business...
@VenQWish and if i remember correctly, the X1 was quite sluggish already, or at least wasn't snappy at all...
@kongmw
well with a good rom its just as snappy as every other phone using the same cpu
The x1 is very fast, it works significantly better on the new roms then my Touch Pro ever even close to did.
My x1 also gets 3 days of battery life, pushing 4 if you just make call/txts
@VenQWish Agreed. A relatively small 3.2in LCD screen and Qualcomm 528mhz processor aren't going to cut it against the Droid or even HD2. You'd have to really want a 8MP camera (and no Xenon) and a keyboard to get this.
Just like the X1, this will be long dead before it's even released. O2 Already dropped it due to delays , Sony needs to step their game up, Really.
Vodafone had exclusive deal to carry the X2 in the UK, but has now cancelled that deal and SE have admitted that no-one else wants it - in other words, the X2 won't be coming out in the UK at all now.

maybe i should pick one up for the old lady ya think?

Please Wait.........
Excessive Bezel is excessive.
When it arrives it'll suck anyway. SE has dropped the ball unless they press out the X10 NOW!
too little, too late.
It's not much of an improvement over the X1... it's pratically the same hardware.
Let out the X10 already
umm, that's what she said....? anyone?

I imagine it sounding like this.
I'm actually interested in this phone... I'm on VZW with a TP2 right now, but although Big Red is great for me throughout Charlotte... it's full of fail at my apartment as far as voice reception is concerned, and I don't have a landline. Also, though I do like the TP2, the screen portion of the handset doesn't quite line up with the "main" portion when the slider is closed, and I'm concerned it might be a common issue. So, in short, I'm looking to go to either AT&T or T-Mo, and want something with a full keyboard... I have no qualms with Win-Mo either. I'm liking the optical trackpad too... now and then I wish my TP2 had one.
The X2 seems pointless, considering the X10 is supposedly coming out soon. Also, SE hasn't done much with the X1 since they've apparently abandoned it completely, and not offering any OS or firmware updates.
X10 does look nice, but... no hardware keyboard = no care.
@R yep, the owners of X1 are trashed away by SE. I'm one oh them and now I'm stuck with a software full of bugs which crashes twice a day and no hope of ever using my 500 euros phone. Why oh why did I believe in SE + MS crap.
@marmota
I have an X1i too and it ain't too bad, actually.....except for the sketchy Bluetooth connection to this VAIO netbook, that is
@R xda-devs has ROMS cooked with the HD2 Sense UI, and it works much better than the stock 'Panels' crap. It actually performs really well, considering the CPU.
Unfortunately, the bezel on the X1 can be annoying when trying to use a finger based UI, but it's really only a minor trade off.
Sooooo, outdated. Welcome to 2008 sony!!!
We all saw that coming a mile away.
this phone is such a disappointment
i wanted it so bad
but it just sucks so much...
whats odd is how the aino/satio came out alot faster than the x2 and it was announced much later...
I think the slide-out keyboard must be an american superimportant feature. I don't know anyone in Sweden or Europe that craves it so much as the Americans. Why?? I've used the iPhone since it arrived and I don't miss a keyboard at all. Now that the Google has implemented speech-recognition in the Nexus One I'll miss it even less. But maybe that's just me.
@Apps2Go It's hard to associate keyboards with Americans. Sure, the US has the Pre, Droid and Blackberry but internationally there's also the N97, E71, X1 and the Blackberries too. From personal experience, most Americans want to pop for the keyboard-less iPhone, the Pre and Droid aren't as nearly mainstream. Plus, the XPERIA-series has always had the US as an afterthought, since they're not available from US carriers and most Americans buy their phones subsided from carriers.
I would really want to get one... if it doesn't cost $700
16mm this is way to big, the Motorola Droid is only 13.7mm thick Sony ericsson have made a big mistake making a phone with a physical keyboard that thick, a 16mm go anywhere phone 2 years ago would be ok, but it is 2010 a phone must not be more than 14mm thick.
.
@surethom
dude its just thickness
would you rather have a smaller battery or have it be bigger?
Id rather have it be bigger, all these other skinny ass phones have crappy battery life. And you know it.
@(Unverified) Yes. Few good examples of this are - HTC Magic, HTC DIAMOND, HTC HERALD..
@surethom i like my women no more than 4mm think too
Wow Sony...late like f***. Please do not do this with the X10.
@Plazmic Flame Who cares?
Enough with the stupid "Delay" posts. It's been out elsewhere for some time now. Way to be clued in, Engadget!
Here's ONE link, for example: http://whymobile.com/productinfo.php?id=SER-X2
Don't post a whine-o-rama just because America gets these phones late. Where there's more demand, things get launched faster.
@Herr Synnberg I was about to say the same thing..its bin out for a while now, @least about 3weeks..a couple online retailers have it already..we all know America gets phones really late.
@Herr Synnberg Good luck: http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/15/sony-ericsson-xperia-x2-delayed-until-january-2010/
If you're gunning for it and actually receive the phone, do let us know! Some retailers can be dodgy with their availability status.
