I'm sorry engadget but this is the last I'm ever visiting your site. Your coverage of a medicore product is completely overboard. If you decide to give the HP slate this much coverage when it comes out let me know and I'll be back, until then, peace out.
@mrbusche Yea. HP Slate better be awesome coverage. And the Courier. That's a slick piece of tech. If you go this bananas over a giant iPhone, I'd better see an entire server dedicate to those.
Usually I agree with posts like these, except....The iPad is the same experience you get right now with iPhone and iPod Touch!...so I don't see your point...sorry.
@mrbusche You'd kill yourself on Gizmodo, I know they're pretty bad with the Apple bias but they're absolutely sucking the iPad's dick with no end in sight. It's disgusting (the image I left you with and their ass kissing.)
@LAY I'm sorry you don't like the coverage; lots of other people do. That's all I can say. As I've said, we're working on a selective filtering system that will exclude certain tags from the front page and our feeds -- until then you're welcome to scroll right on past these posts.
@jstevens I don't, because I think the engadget team do a good job of staying neutral, despite a (very) vocal minority who are oh so happy to claim otherwise, without many good examples to back up their case.
@mrbusche they have good reason. according to alexa (which ranks websites by traffic) engadget went from being the 415th to 395th on the list of the most visited websites
@Nilay Patel It doesn't help to fight them - it's like fighting irrational thought with rational thought...
However, "your readers" are not just how many hits you get on an article, especially if they ignore every other article on here - it's the people like me who ritualistically log on and read through everything that's happening in the world of technology. What I'd like to see is maybe some NEW content, which is why i opened this article, not because I want the same stuff you've been blogging over the last few days. In other words, don't count my view of this article, because I only scanned it looking for something interesting.
Everyone on the staff has *serious* issues with this product. We do not like it. I personally think it's a huge flop. There's a difference between what we, as a staff, like and what the people care about. Sorry if I just blew your mind up.
We get it you hate Apple, but most of us don't take personal issue with what an internet blog covers. Is whining like Holden Caufield your way of memorializing Salinger?
@Nilay Patel Hey, I pretty much never complain, but I'm gonna chime in.
I don't mind if you're objective or not - post all the apple news you want, I'll just ignore it...
But - For you to claim you follow other stories with this level of granularity... Come on man, be honest with yourself. This is Waaay more posts than really anything else non-apple. You claimed you did this with the droid, but as someone pointed out, you had nearly six times more posts on this than you did with the droid.
You've got to admit - that's not the "same level of granularity". If people want a bunch of apple posts, that's fine, but be aware - there have been *a bunch* of apple posts. You don't need to go overboard.
Number of Pre articles (48 hours) when it was announced - circa May 19th - 13.
As of now ipad articles have 30 in number. The problem is the high number of posts on the day of the live coverage - you guys had a separate article for every tiny detail, every speculative comparison. That was 2 days ago. Now, even if you post legit articles on the ipad, collective/recent memory will indicate that you guys are overdoing it even now. Ease off the ipod pedal a bit, take a few deep breaths okay?
And then we kept going, to the point where a week later we were still doing five or six posts on it in a 48-hour period. You only see what you want to see.
@DirtyVegas No. We will never, ever "ease off the pedal." That's not what we do here at all. We do not ease off the pedal. We did 200 posts a day at CES with our hair on fire, we're going to cover the hell out of the iPad, and then we're going to go to MWC and blow the doors off Windows Mobile 7. That's how we do things around our house.
There are plenty of other sites out there who don't crank like we do, I'm sure you would enjoy their relaxing pace and refreshing soft drinks.
Don't claim objectivity and parity of coverage with other devices and manufacturers when you're anything but. Engadget's AAPL-love has finally bitten it in the @zz. Try as you and Topolsky might, there's just no polishing this turd. It's fun to watch you try to beat back the tide of anti-iPad posts with FUD and blatant BS. People would respect you more if you just admitted it. You do know what "objective" means, right?
Has Cupertino's check cleared or was it a straight-up cash payment this time?
Hopefully that filtering system works better than your site does in IE. Because that experience give me no faith in the ability of your web programmer to get things done from his MacBook.
@blackactor You recommend that they get a college education, yet you use "biasness," thinking it is a word. You, sir, are the one in need of some higher education.
@Nilay Patel Yes but it's almost universally agreed upon-even by reviewers that like the darn thing that nobody should buy this thing and seriously I cannot remember an electronics product launch that has had this much negativity attached to it. And if you're going by pure pageviews, well I suppose you're right in that people will click into these to vent about how much the iPad stinks but do you really need 30 articles for that? I suppose you can slowly make us ever more filled with rage but I think past a certain point people really will stop coming to the site.
About 15 for driod in 48h window, including a review of the phone. About 13 for Pre. iPad 30, and there's no review, only brief hands on. Ipad had more articles than pre and droid combined in the first 48 hours!
And you don't see this amount of articles is excessive?
Let me guess next articles: Doesn't/does support stereo bluetooth headphonees. (Probably doesn't) Doesn't support bluetooth file transfer Unboxing video Release date Will be sold by AT&T shops. Jobs blurps out something more about iPad...
Ok. Most of these would be fair for a separate article but by making a new article out of every tidbit you could out of iPad in the first hour you made the world tired of listening you.
It's like some kid with memory disorder that has a new toy that he wants to show everybody. You might be fine with it for the first 3 or 4 times but after 30 even mother theresa would kick his ass.
Next time make a running facts article with running conference reporting to cut down the article numbers, and then after the conference make clean summaries.
Nice, Engadget.. Jsut REMOVe the posts that expose the flaws in your site rather than sctually FIX them? (should take your web programmer about 20 mins to fix, yet it has been broken for months).
Are you so paranoid about giving IE users a voice that you have to result to this?
@jstevens Me, I am willing to bet "this "guide" isn't paid for by Apple".
You know why? Because it's a tech blog, they cover tech. A tablet from Apple, happes to be a new tech, so it's covered. Chill out, if you don't wanna read about it don't, but don't hate on the product and don't hate on the Engadget dudes.
The Chromebooks are here, starting with Samsung's Series 5, a cute little number that promises instant-on access, 3G connectivity, and long enough battery life to web surf with the best of 'em.

@mrbusche Goodbye...
More iPad posts please.
Who's willing to bet that this little "guide" isn't paid for by Apple?
@Nilay Patel @mrbusche We've covered lots of devices with this level of granularity -- the Pre and the Droid come to mind.
I'm sorry, Nilay, but this is like 26 posts in the past 48 hours, not counting the posts before the actual announcement.
I seriously, other than the iPhone, do not recall anywhere near this level of coverage.
@Nilay Patel
Usually I agree with posts like these, except....The iPad is the same experience you get right now with iPhone and iPod Touch!...so I don't see your point...sorry.

@Nilay Patel
Articles on ipad since its launch (48 hours) - 29
Articles on Droid during launch (48 hours) - 5 (circa Nov. 6th)
Your point?
@LAY I'm sorry you don't like the coverage; lots of other people do. That's all I can say. As I've said, we're working on a selective filtering system that will exclude certain tags from the front page and our feeds -- until then you're welcome to scroll right on past these posts.
And, what? We were all over the Droid and the Pre -- we even wrote essentially this same post for the Pre: http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/13/palm-pre-everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know/
@jstevens
I don't, because I think the engadget team do a good job of staying neutral, despite a (very) vocal minority who are oh so happy to claim otherwise, without many good examples to back up their case.

Work with me here, would ya' ?
@Nilay Patel Im glad you read through all the crap we write and that not every one hates the iPad.
@mrbusche
Hey, everyone. You listening? Did you all read this?
http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/27/editorial-engadget-on-the-ipad/
Everyone on the staff has *serious* issues with this product. We do not like it. I personally think it's a huge flop. There's a difference between what we, as a staff, like and what the people care about. Sorry if I just blew your mind up.
@sky2earth
That's called the Digg effect, not the iPad alone.

@Taylor Yes Taylor That dude has his numbers all wrong. The Droid launched on October 28th, and we did like six or seven posts on it that day alone.

@Nilay Patel
Fair enough. Time to log out.
@Nilay Patel
Not even close.
The PRE got a lot of coverage.. I think the entire Pre launch still got as much coverage in a week as you give the iPad each and every day.
And it is the iPad of all things! How embarassing for you.
@MathiasLM
RE: The archive for 01-27-2010.
I scroll down, HOLY SHIT!
@Nilay Patel
Defensive and thin-skinned much?

I'm out of it for a little while, and everybody gets delusions of grandeur. I think I'll take another nap til this blows over.
@mrbusche
Didn't you threaten to leave last year?
@blackactor You recommend that they get a college education, yet you use "biasness," thinking it is a word. You, sir, are the one in need of some higher education.
@mrbusche
Good riddance. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
@Nilay Patel
I'm just somewhat annoyed I can't down-rank editors into oblivion. Meh.

I'm with @Nilay Patel
Crank it up. It's what Engadgets about.
You guys can go somewhere else.
E coverers the shit out of things and stays on top of tech news more actively than any other tech blog I know.
Keep it up guys.
And the rest of you go have fun reading Slowtaku

@Nilay Patel Yeah, Okay Nilay, let's see daily rumor posts about the HP Slate.
And anything else that isn't apple.
really.
